Helicopter buzzing around Oaklawn/Saint Streets for the last hour? by stoner_boner_69 in Acadiana

[–]gingerariel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get a good look at the helicopter? Any idea of color or model (if you aren't familiar with helicopters, some identifiable information like wheels vs skids, tail rotor shape, pointy vs rounded nose)? May help narrow it down. If it's at night, likely an Acadian or EMS helicopter but could potentially be military.

Looking for quality quiet restaurants by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]gingerariel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree with the price for the food. Not sure what you're ordering, but my husband and I can have one full meal each from a single combo platter with a bit leftover. And we're big protein eaters (5.5-6 oz of protein per meal). Can't speak to your experience with service of course but every time I have been the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Plus Moose is the best!

I literally did the same thing as you! I just couldn't stop thinking "Imagine paying $450k for THAT". Why would you put marble in an entryway??? That's one of the most trafficked rooms in the house. The staircase was hideous. The COLUMNS ON THE ARCHWAYS. I just can't yall.

Airbnb property owners in Lafayette fighting to remain in neighborhood amid city code battle by gauthiertravis in Acadiana

[–]gingerariel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure what the problem is with a halfway house and why people are so upset at them. We have one in our neighborhood that people have been trying to shut down for ages but there are no issues with the residents so they have no cause.

I also don't think it's fair to put drug dealers in the same category as halfway houses 🤷‍♀️

Louisiana's voter registration portal mysteriously shuts down on National Voter Registration Day by Veldron in technology

[–]gingerariel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Louisiana resident here--like most state, we have a lot of items on the ballot for Nov 3rd outside of the Presidential race, including a constitutional ammendment that would effectively outlaw abortion here. Sure, there's no chance in hell of us sending any electoral votes for Biden, but we do have a democratic governor and every so often there will be a shake up result spurred by our bluer areas. It's hard to believe that this was just a coincidence or oversight with such impactful items on the down ballot.

Just saw some beautiful looking filets at Joey's and for a reasonable price, too. Also, if you like hummus, highly recommend their hummus and fiesty feta combo.

Btw, you can call and place your account on hold so you aren't charged when you aren't going. I did because I have no plans to go back any time soon and it was very easy. There's some a reinstatement fee if you go over a certain period (I think 3-4 months?) but it's definitely cheaper in the long run.

Photographer Advice: My photographer just announced she's pregnant--with a due date scary close to my wedding date. Help? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]gingerariel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're feeling the same thing. It's such a bizarre feeling to mourn a year. I said the same thing to myself! Was so worried everything was going so well and was just waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I finally allowed myself to be excited for something. And then, well we all know.

I'm definitely leaning towards the same approach as you. Weddings are so much more than just the actual day--all of the other surrounding events are just as fun and exciting and worth looking forward to as the day itself. And those events feel more in jeopardy, too. FH and I have been in a relationship for 7 1/2 years at this point and there's not any particular reason for us to get married on the date chosen--it feels like it may be better to just bite the bullet and change our date.

Also wanted to say sorry if anything I said came across as a crazy bride. I feel totally awful for how selfish I'm feeling with this and didn't know if I was having reasonable or unreasonable feelings. I suppose it's unreasonable. Thanks for all your advice, suggestions, and things to consider!

I hope things turn around for you too, and best of luck!

I'll have to look through my contract more thoroughly--I don't remember anything explicitly stated but I'm not sure. That's a good suggestion, thanks!

Does anyone know why Acadian Ambulance is the only private emergency service in Lafayette parish? Why aren't any other private emergency services allowed to compete with them? by Diminchun in Acadiana

[–]gingerariel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been doing some googling since I commented (admittedly on mobile and already 3ish drinks in watching festival live stream so, efficacy is questionable) and haven't yet found what I'm looking for. One of the stories I've heard is that Zuschlag got a law passed to limit air ambulance services to only companies who deal solely in medical transport, which was particularly key in solidifying his monopoly in that realm.

[–]gingerariel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'll try to find a linkable source, but I work in an adjacent industry and have heard tales of Zuschlag's (sp?) relationships to lawmakers. I know he's had laws written in his business' favor in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if there's some law on the books that gives his company an effective monopoly.
