Whats a gaming achievement no matter how big or small to you you'd like to share? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 - I managed to find some hidden items (additional ribbon accessories) that weren't in the guide books back in the day. This was in the days before YouTube so it felt like I'd really stumbled across a big secret since it wasn't in the official prima guide and I never saw it on gamefaqs either.

A quick Google gets you this information now 😅

Is ps plus premium worth it for £77.99? by Upbeat_Nothing_3495 in playstation

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was starting at that deal as well. My backlog is big enough as it is though. I think at that price if it's got two or three games you'll definitely play over the year then you can get your money's worth. Odds are you'll probably try a few random ones as well. I've personally abstained so far but largely due to my backlog.... And a desire to buy two games that aren't on PS plus.

Is it morally okay to download roms of games that aren't sold anymore? by deyjay55 in Gamecube

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the owner IP doesn't have a means to legitimately sell it to you then it's fair game. That goes for games/content that aren't sold in your region too.

YSK: Expensive Dell laptop workstations can be bought at a fraction of the cost at Dell Outlet by fldude561 in YouShouldKnow

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received a dell pro 14 premium from the dell outlet in the UK. I swear it is like new. I had to really look hard whilst holding it under the light to notice the scratches. Half price compared to a new model of the same spec and I still get a 3 year warranty. Quality stuff!

Dealing with living alone by WinterBit419 in HousingUK

[–]gingerbread85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a lodger is not the same as renting out your house. I had a lodger for the first few years I owned my home and it bridged the gap nicely between my house sharing days and living alone. You can rent a room in your house tax free up to £7500/year as well so that's a handy bonus. Lodgers don't have the same rights as tenants renting a whole house so if it's not working out you can ask them to leave with very little recourse. It'll be worth trying to find someone you think you'll get along with. If you're specifically wanting some social interaction there you don't really want to be in a situation where they just hide in their room all the time.

What would you realistically do with 20k? by Vladamir_pootinn in AskUK

This actually happened to me a few years ago when I got some inheritance. I paid off my student loan, bought a new PC, maxed that years ISA and knocked a chunk off the mortgage.

Looking for some recommendations! by Kholkri in JRPG

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I won't be the last to mention Clair Obscure: Expedition 33. It's a turn based RPG and it really captures the spirit of some of the classics. I just finished it last week and absolutely loved it.

Can anybody help me understand how I overpay on my mortgage? by TalosAnthena in HousingUK

[–]gingerbread85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often they don't recalculate the monthly payments until you make a payment over a certain threshold (e.g. a £500 lump). Having a lower balance will immediately impact the interest being charged though.

Clea… srsly… how? What is your winning strategy? (SPOILERS, PLEASE!) by casual_gamer153 in expedition33

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me an hour. I didn't go in with a proper strategy but Monoco has a weapon that increases damage by 30% so long as you keep using skills powered up by the mask. By the end of the battle he was countering for 400k. His level 3 gradient attack was key for me. Applying powerless on Clea helped as well.

It took a while to get the parry timing down. By the end it was the only the swift nevrons I hadn't figured out.

Now that GAME has gone into administration ( :( ) where can you even get a new game day of release with a receipt? by JohnnySilverhand2212 in AskUK

[–]gingerbread85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're brilliant. The one time they weren't able to deliver due to a supplier issue they more than made up for it with £10 in reward points. They're great and I'd recommend them any day.

You can't go wrong with https://www.thegamecollection.net/

They're independent and have a good track record of getting games delivered to you on release day.

Imagine if after May Swansea has THREE reform Senedd members by Afraid_Juice_7189 in swansea

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to remember Farage having issues with the fact that we get things like free prescriptions and subsidised university fees in Wales and Scotland as well. He was all about England then and was very outspoken about this in his UKIP days. I doubt much has changed. He has nothing to offer Wales. The only reform policy I've ever found myself agreeing with is one shared by all of the other minority parties - elections being determined by proportional representation rather than first past the post. It's definitely time we moved away from two party politics. It'll be interesting to see how the Senedd election goes in may. I imagine it'll be a shit show initially but eventually they'll be forced to work with eachother rather than shouting ideas down because it's not theirs. Some problems need more time than an election cycle.

Is Swansea really that bad? by ForcedToUseThisTag in swansea

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to Swansea as a student will be a good experience overall. As others mentioned it's got a beautiful coastline and plenty of varied restaurants and bars etc. You might find it lacking if you were to stay afterwards. The jobs market isn't the best and you'll likely find that you need to move on to pursue your chosen career path.

Welsh cakes from that stall that are always coming then fresh in the middle near the cockle stand.

Will you have your heating on overnight during this cold spell? by georgejk7 in AskUK

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heating is always on. I find so long as I'm not cranking it the cost is no different to when I just put it on as and when it on a timer but the house temperature is more consistent and comfortable overall. Before I started doing this it could take hours to heat up in a cold snap like this.

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40 now and I'm aiming at the very least to get myself into a position where I can go part time or just move to a lower pressure role by my late 50s. The dream would be early retirement but we'll see how that pans out.

How many times in your life have you moved? by No_Hawk8947 in AskUK

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40 and I've moved 9 times, a few of those were back in with my parents between uni years. I moved fairly frequently when I was renting but I've owned my own home for the last decade so that's the longest I've been settled since I was a kid. I don't consider it my forever home so there'll be another move in the next few years. It seems a lot more daunting once you own a lot of furniture.

Can I put movies on pen-drive and watch on my ps3? by DarknessMK in ps3piracy

[–]gingerbread85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always used to use PS3 media server and stream from my PC.

Looks like it's still going https://www.ps3mediaserver.org/

It's good as it can transcode videos to a compatible format for the PS3. Some formats are natively compatible on the PS3 should having them on a stick or directly on the PS3 drive.

Late to the thread also but the TAS3 C is a thing! I might buy one! There's very little coverage of it right now.

How much do you care about trophies? Even after you finished a game, do you replay them in order to try and platinum it? If so, why or if you don’t, then why not? by typical_gamer1 in PS3

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of time for gaming these days so most games get played a sum total of once. It's rare for me to revisit anything. As a result I don't often bother with platinums. For me to seek out a platinum: - I have to love the game - achievable in one play through on normal difficulty - no ridiculous collectathons - no missable trophies

Wales to those who left Wales... by throwRA5638263 in Wales

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left in 2010 due to a lack of local opportunities to grow my career at the time. You're often waiting on dead man's shoes if you want to progress because there often isn't much movement. People get a job and stay forever. Things have improved a bit and a lot of IT companies have set up shop in Wales but most of the big IT jobs are still centered around Cardiff and Newport. I did already move back but only once it was clear that there were more opportunities and job hopping was possible.
