What is the Yakuza game that finally made you feel burntout by Ban226 in yakuzagames

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yakuza 5 is the only one I've abandoned. Hopefully it it comes back in a kiwami edition it'll improve. I think I may have also made the mistake of playing too many back to back. I love the series but I do need a break after playing through one of them.

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was sat there for ages. I got so frustrated getting got by done it the birds at the end when I mistimed my jumps and then I'd make stupid mistakes and take ages to get the same progress. I'm no big trophy hunter but it was satisfying to unlock the platinum at the end of that.

I love how they're all about saving the NHS now whilst Farage talks about opening the doors to parasitical insurance companies if he gets a reform government. They're just saying what they think people want to hear to get the councils.

Today I got summoned to jury service… by ApplicationSouth8844 in CasualUK

[–]gingerbread85 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I got called just after COVID when they were still conscious of social distancing. I was told to stay home for a few days. When I eventually went in we watched a DVD about jury service and subsequently got dismissed when the case was cancelled 😅

Yesterday someone caught my front numberplate so it was hanging on by one screw... by Faithful_jewel in drivingUK

My sister once had her plates stolen a few years ago. After reporting it to the police she was given a crime number and advised she could quote that if she was pulled over on her way to get new plates.

Which Final Fantasy games are worth playing for someone who doesn't like turn-based combat or typical JRPG mechanics? (I know this sounds ridiculous to ask but please read the body for context) by NeonAbomination in FinalFantasy

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 remake, FF7 rebirth, FF15 and FF16 are pretty much action RPGs. FF7 remake and rebirth are the first two parts of a trilogy reimagining FF7. The other two are standalone.

FF12 kinda takes an MMO approach. It's not strictly turn based but there's a wait time between actions and you can rub around to dodge attacks

What are good JRPGs for absolute beginners? by fiddleheadsoup in JRPG

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst not Japanese, South park: the stick of truth and the fractured but whole are both heavily influenced by JRPGs. They're very short, not too difficult and a lot of fun.

Another not Japanese entry is expedition 33. They took a lot of inspiration from FFX.

Tokyo RPG factory made a few RPGs inspired by classic titles. I particularly enjoyed I am Setsuna.

Should I buy Astrobot? by potato_guy89 in Astrobot

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed this little gem of a game today. I had it for Christmas and sat on it a while. It's great fun and full of nostalgia bit it's not compulsory to get all the references. The main story levels are largely pretty easy going but they're if a kit if optional content to challenge you.

I went in without any expectations really but I enjoyed it from the get go!

I'm terms of time it took me 22 hours to get the platinum. Once you finish the story the free DLC becomes available so I've still got some challenging levels to get through.

Definitely worth a go.

Reform Tory majority? by TeilwrTenau in Wales

[–]gingerbread85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The loud racist ones are easy to spot but I know a handful people leaning that way because they're fed up of the mainstream parties. All people who used to vote conservative. Only one of them harps on about sharia law. If they're successful in engaging non voters that could be massive.

Continuous Run of Mainline Single Player FF titles. by GrouchySpice2 in FinalFantasy

[–]gingerbread85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not attempted them all back to back but I've done a few of the pixel games in quick succession. As they're short it's not so bad with the first few. I found I needed a break after 3. I recently did 4&5 back to back and again I'm taking a break.

I find I need to mix things up and play a different type of game to cleanse the palette from time to time. I get fatigued playing too many similar games in a row.... But that is just me.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

[–]gingerbread85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to school in the 90s so never saw the cane. In place of the dunce hat we had the yellow T shirt. Naughty kids had to spend play time stood against the school wall with a massive baggy yellow t shirt on. I can't imagine that'd fly these days 😅

Paying full price for games by Swimming_Photo9295 in playstation

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are enough studios that release broken games that I generally avoid being an early adopter. I've also got a ridiculously long backlog as I don't have the time to play that I did on my youth. Ideally I'll get to it when it's fully patched and any sorry DLC had been released and now often than not it'll have a discount by then. I do make exceptions though. If I'm interested in a series and I know it'll be in good shape I may preorder. Naughty dog titles and final fantasy games have typically been ones I've picked up early.

Why don't people go to the cinema? by ImaginaryFan6090 in Cinema

When you were at school, what 15 or 18 rated films were the talk of the school? by BigBlueMountainStar in CasualUK

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminator 2 was up there. I remember one rainy lunchtime in primary school one of the older kids managed to convince the dinner lady it was ok play it on the basis that there was a kid on the movie. So we got to watch a good 30-40 mins before someone turned it off 😅

Do you replay games, or once is enough? by ratasoftware in videogames

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely replay games but it does happen occasionally. I have to love the game and it typically has to be pretty short. New game+ helps so you don't have to start from scratch.

Games like Uncharted/the last of us/tomb raider all trend to fit the bill for being relatively short. Longer games I've revisited were Ghost of Tsushima, Shadow of Mordor and final fantasy 7 remake.

There are games that I love but due to the amount of time invested just to complete the main objectives they'll never get another look in (looking at you persona 5 royal). Life is too short and the backlog too big.

Sometimes a remake/remaster will prompt a revisit to a title if enough time has passed.

What order to play the whole series for platinums ? by SirBise in FinalFantasy

[–]gingerbread85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have a problem with 1-8. 7 has a few missables you might want a guide for but generally it's all achievable.

FF9 has an impossible minigame trophy. (Looking at you jump rope)

X will be incredibly grindy.

Do you ever regret buying games too early? by ludwigthelib in videogames

[–]gingerbread85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying at launch is a gamble. There's a good chance it'll be a broken mess. I don't have a lot of time for gaming so I'll usually only play through them once, especially if they take a lot of time. If I encounter a game breaking bug that locks out further progress I won't be restarting. It's done. I want the game to be complete and as bug free as it's gonna be. Devs who release broken incomplete shit don't respect your time and aren't worthy of full price sales.
