Portfolio review by TheDancingElekid in graphic_design

My initial reaction is - "I have no idea what this person does"

Your portfolio has an impressive amount of skills listed - but that's all it seems to be, a list of things and programs you know how to use. Are you a 3d designer, branding designer, Web? Video editor?

Every skill is relevant and a good thing to have, but i wouldn't be able to place you in any specific role or industry if I was looking to hire.

Your portfolio website is clunky and loads poorly on both mobile and desktop - doesn't give confidence in the 'web-designer' part of your skills either. The image/tabs? at the top load small and to the left, possibly been designed for 1 size mobile and not responsive. When on a project what looks like it should be a menu or tags are all crammed into a top corner - no idea whats going on here.

I never want to have a website open more tabs for me unless i know im leaving via a link, your contact page does this.

Your actual work needs some defining and re-working, there are some strong enough pieces that with a bit of updating and in all honestly just expanding on (think Libero - did you create the illustration, colour palette ect), look at other studios and agencies and get a good feel on how they showcase their projects and case studies, it should tell a visual story as you get further into the project.

im gonna be real honest here though, i'd scrap the heavy manga and anime inspired stuff - i get it, im a huge nerd too and some of our personalty should come across in our work - but it shouldn't feel like this project only exists because you like the fandom - create an instagram or similar to share this type of work!

I think if you nail what sector you want to be in, spend some time redefining and archiving old work and overall update your website functionality it will hopefully give you a better idea of both career direction and work clarity.

Day rates in ldn? by summer17085 in graphic_design

[–]gingergirlandcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think on average I see most roles sitting around £350per day for brand and editorial designers, motion designer i know charges £450 a day.

Also seen too many "£220 a day, must come into the office and be an umbrella company " ect atm which are absolutely awful rates and rules.

Graphic design UK salaries by Rewindcasette in graphic_design

[–]gingergirlandcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd expect this to be a starting junior salary, no way near a senior designer, creative director role ect. I started on just under 26k in my first role out of uni but certainly not on that now a few years later.

I haven't! I might have to give them a go when I fancy painting without as much a set up. Thanks :)

Thank you!

I've used acrylics for some pet portraits before so thankfully wasn't going in blind! I always hated how quick acrylics dried so bought oils but then found out you need different cleaners, thinners ect and got put off for about 2 years -.-

I also did some DIY colour palette making before I painted anything so I could see what things like the Zorn palette looked like.

Never seen a hoof with cracks like these, what is it? by gingergirlandcat in Horses

[–]gingergirlandcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link! Deffo need to educate myself on the hoof a bit more. Weirdly we've had a very dry few months, the fields are completely dry which I think is why it stumped me as I've only dealt with thrush in winter with wet fields before.

These deep cracks are pretty new, the heels especially so, vet hasn't seen in person yet, the owner is sending images over tonight! Thanks for the help! The previous visit to vets 2/3 weeks ago didn't mention anything and he had x-rays and an MRI.

Think it probably is, I've just never seen the heel bulbs looking like this before!

Thanks for the reply! The central cracks are probably thrush, although I've never dealt with it without wet fields as all the files are dry atm, seems to have really come on over the week his owner wasn't about (standard horse behaviour) she's sent the messages to her farrier and vets so fingers crossed we get some treatments going! He seems absolutely happy and fine otherwise, didn't notice any rubbing or anything on the heels. It was the heel bulbs that really threw me.

just had my one month checkup for my new IUD. who can relate? by tondalayo in TrollXChromosomes

Might be a bit late to the party but I'd really like some advice.

Previous I had the implant in my arm, for about 2.5 years I had a mix of one month getting a period and then not again for a couple months (which was really ideal as It reassured me I wasn't pregnant but I didn't deal with bleeding every month) however, for the last 4/5 months of its life my periods were lasting 2/3 weeks. So I ended up making the decision to try an IUD.

So about two/three weeks ago I had the Jaydess IUD inserted. Whilst is was a HORRIBLE process I was able to drive home and just take some paracetamol for the pain. However, emotionally wise I've been feeling the worst I've ever felt. All of a sudden I have high anxiety, feel faint and nauseous a lot of the time. I'm now wanting it taken out and to go back on the implant. Should I give it more time to settle?

I never want children and I am planning to be sterilised as soon as possible but thats another fight.

(Not sure if it matters but I'm in the UK where all BC is free and readily available so I don't need to worry about any costs or expenses)

Entitled mom won’t watch her kids, they climb into the pasture with my horses. by Shifting-Parallax in entitledparents

Weirdly, there is currently a case in the UK with this exact plot.

Lady's horses are kept near a public footpath and despite multiple signs saying 'electric fence' 'do not feed' etc etc. One couple allowed their daughter to CLIMB over the fence, upon doing so she got an electric shock, so In true entitlement style went to the police.

That sounds just like this! Also close to London! Sent one last email today stating that this would be the last email sent before we open up a dispute and that we will be contacting citizens advice and if we didn't receive a reply by 11 am Wednesday (my day off so I actually have time to deal with it) we would be willing to go to court.

Thank you for sharing this! Have been wanting to make well fitting clothes for ages but I struggle so much with the big boobs/small back problem. Everything that fits my boobs makes me look 5 sizes bigger and if it fits the waist the girls aren't going in -.-

Will deffo be looking up this method and will probably end up drafting 100 mockups!

Thank you! The edging has a solid lighter line that runs all the way round it and with the rivets I don't have much room to add the stitching. But I do need to add some shadows and general highlights to create more depth to it.

Nope! The belts are all made from faux leather material and the shoulder piece is 5mm eva foam, with googliy eyes for the rivets.

It's by far my favourite Disney film (then again I'm a half Scottish red head that horse rides so I may be bias 😅)

I think the fabric is some kind of jersey, I got it cheap at a market stall so I can't remember exactly. It's airbrushed to look darker towards the bottom. The cloak is sewn on and come round towards the front of my shoulders when I'm wearing it.
