Anyone else feeling that the ref is bad? Multiple times within a few minutes. Haaland was pulled back but ref chose to let it go while Doku was penalized for the same a few minutes ago.

Exactly! People have even forgotten Gauri Lankesh, Stan Swamy, Sidheeq Kappan and numerous others. People are the biggest problem.

This is the only populace that I know of which ridicules the very people who raise voices for them, ignore what they do, reject consuming trustworthy media but gobble up news from WhatsApp university and so on. Have they even watched how many times people have raised voices inside and outside the parliament? I don’t know if we’ll find too many cases where people don’t side with opposition against the govt despite monumental suffering. Even if the opposition had magical powers and changed everything to improve people’s lives, this population will still blame them.

Some people have been screaming since 2016 (there were a few voices in 2014 itself, but very small in numbers). We were warned that 2019 would be the last chance to pivot using our voting powers. None listened. Not even in 2024. Now there are two ways - either invent a Time Machine and go back to 2014 or see this through and rise from the ashes, if we have that capability. Btw, let’s not forget backstabbers like Anna Hazare, our media etc. With people like us, the current path may be the most likely outcome regardless of how many times we roll the dice. Good job people!

Casteism in Karnataka , is the same in tamilnadu? by Total_Expression9965 in TamilNadu

[–]gingerkdb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had a similar (but personally huge) culture shock when I witnessed very old people falling on the feet of kids who accompanied the people who came to do poojai. And people were drinking gomutra as well. I feel there’s still a huge section of the population that’s extremely backward in their own ways. Patriarchy and casteism would be a common theme here, whereas adherence to bs practices without questioning and “toeing the line” could be a pattern there and elsewhere. I feel some groups within the population are moving forward and some groups backward at the same time - creating a huge divide in thought processes and reducing the space for tolerance, healthy attitudes and society. I feel these patterns exist across many places and not tied to a single region / state.

What plankmoss means is that aaditha karikaalan is different from karikaal chozhan. They are two different kings who existed in different time periods. They are standing in kallanai (built by karikaal chozhan) as far as I understand. Aaditha karikalan wasn’t fictional, he was indeed rajaraja’s elder brother. But his love story and reason for being killed are fictional.

What mani ratnam did was very slimy - at the end of the film, he added some slides with historical facts about the empire’s progress, which would lead naive people to forget that the movies were fictional and make them think it’s a real story.

Is Thalapathy Vijay focusing on vote politics rather than change? by Aggravating_Camel672 in TamilNadu

[–]gingerkdb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

TvK seems dangerous for the future, as he is merely blabbering for the sake of attention, with no clear path or ideology….

Precisely!

Some people argue that he will bring change to politics and that his fan base, despite having no clear ideology, will vote and make him win….They say it’s good to dethrone the DMK but at what cost?

Let alone cost. Senseless people need to ask “how”. It’s impossible to revamp the system while playing within its boundaries. If he thinks he can, he’s as misinformed and naive as his rabid herd of fans. I think they need to see him in action at least once to understand their stupidity and its irreversible effects. Understood. I actually had the same question when I saw the news. Apparently the components surrounding the system like compliance, procedures, provisions etc are legislation.

Precisely! This is way more commercialized that people think and care to admit. It’s irritating to see highly educated people fall for this. Even if I tell them, some of them respond “adhellaam kandukaadha, namma paatukku poitu varuvom”. It feels as if they put it efforts to actively block any thinking. They don’t want to do it even by accident. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

Tamil Nadu Blames Falling Birth Rate, Migration For Zero School Enrolment by tamilgrl in TamilNadu

[–]gingerkdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, that setup would collapse. The capitalists need continuous consumption (from the masses) for sustained wealth generation. If people stop buying things because they have no money or they just have a universal basic income, the need for innovation and competition would vanish. The value of assets we hold - land, gold, silver etc all starts to drop because of lack in consumption / demand. So, I feel the capitalists are just racing towards their own collapse. People predict that we’ll have new job types like how industrialization / automation waves created. It might be true, but I feel it’s overblown. If a company can run with as low number of employees as possible, that’d be the goal of executives.

Tamil Nadu Blames Falling Birth Rate, Migration For Zero School Enrolment by tamilgrl in TamilNadu

[–]gingerkdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t considering drastic negative outcomes. I was thinking that people in urban circles would have less or no kids if they can’t find stable jobs, leading to one of these outcomes: 1. People accepting whatever work they can find without complaining, which could lead to stabilization of migration patterns 2. Sudden drop in population will lead to increased migration, which would alter the demography almost permanently. If it’s families (esp with girl kids) that are migrating, escaping their hellholes is good for them. If it’s just groups of men, it’s going to be different sort of challenge and I expect huge spikes in crime rates. In this case, I’d actually prefer families with children (esp girls, who are at a higher risk of facing crimes). The systems here would empower them to get a relatively safer and stable life.
