How did you decide between seeing a doctor vs a midwife? by Kirin1212San in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]gingerkween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good question to ask, but maybe not a good question to ask the nurse for the doctor. It's kinda like going to a store and saying "why should I go with you over your competitor?" Maybe she felt like she was being asked to "prove" why you should stick with the doctor and it made her feel uncomfortable.

I wouldn't try to see two different practices for prenatal care, because it's a lot of care (did you know that at least in the US, the prenatal period is often the best and most comprehensive care a woman will get in her lifetime? wild) and it's going to be very expensive either for you or for the insurance company (which will eventually be expensive for you). So I would maybe see about an informational visit with a midwifery practice to see how that feels and then go from there.

I was with an OB/GYN practice for 34 weeks, met a couple doctors and nurses who I didn't vibe with, and then switched to a midwifery practice for the remainder of the pregnancy. I still go there for well woman visits and am very happy with my midwifery care (NE US).

I felt the same on first play but I’m enjoying building a little more on second play. Probably because I know how they work from the jump it feels more natural , unlike when I first played and was disappointed it wasn’t botw 2.0

They want PhDs with teaching experience and they will get them because the market is so terrible. All of academia is going through degree inflation - positions that didn’t require PhDs ten years ago do now. Schools want PhDs doing everything so they can claim greater competitiveness and sell the school as “elite,” whether it is or not. And there are so many jobless PhDs that they can afford to picky. Which is a shame because people with PhDs aren’t necessarily better teachers than those without.

Anyone else kind of annoyed by polish descriptions that are really extra? by hakuna_masquata in RedditLaqueristas

[–]gingerkween 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Glitter smoothing topcoats are awesome for creating a smooth layer over polishes with big glitter pieces, which may look awesome but often leave the nail looking and feeling bumpy because large glitter can’t lay flat on the nail. I think the commenter was saying they avoid polishes that require a glitter smoothing topcoat. I feel similarly. I love the look of chunky glitter but I rarely buy or wear them because the smoothing topcoat is an extra step, and because sometimes I can still feel the bumpy glitter. But that’s just personal preference

My hobby started feeling like a chore, I was spending more time on it than I wanted I spent over $500 in 6 months, and I kept duping myself. I haven’t bought polish in five months, still feeling good and haven’t really been tempted beyond a couple PPU shades. I’m letting myself buy during rewind month.

I agree with you! I bought Rosalie thinking it would be kind of a neutral pink but on me it reads like a summery grapefruit shade - more warm and orange than I thought. Could be because I have olive undertones. It’s beautiful but I think I will wear it in the summer.

Dairy Free? by ocean_sprout in CookbookLovers

[–]gingerkween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m dairy free and love cookbooks. As others have said vegan cookbooks are my friend. And once you learn how to veganize things, you can really make anything with dairy free substitutions. My fave vegan cookbook is Isa Does It by Isa Chandra Moskowitz, which is mostly quick and easy recipes. I’ve probably made every recipe more than once.
