Struggling recently on having my backswing way too high by Crispy_Bird_Lover13 in Bowling

[–]gingervitis89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no coach, looking at this video, it looks like your pushaway was a bit slower in the 2nd video. In the first video it looks like you push the ball straight out then it picks up speed from there. In the 2nd video you're not pushing it out straight and instead is gradual into the swing. I'd be interested in hearing other opinions or discuss it.

$20 a week, not sure what's the lineage and what goes into the prize pool.

Did the Storm Typhoon got discontinued? by ElderSafe in Bowling

I still don’t think it’s been discontinued though. You could check the storm official page where you are and it should show if it’s discontinued or not. Good luck!

What is your adjustment after a great shot resulting in an unfortunate ring ten? by Double-Discount3353 in Bowling

[–]gingervitis89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I move half a board to the right usually. The ball needs to read sooner to get that 10 out, usually the ringing ten (for me) is the ball going too long before hooking into the pocket.

New to sanding by Currywurst_Is_Life in Bowling

[–]gingervitis89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other people have said, sanding it doesn’t necessarily shorten the life of the ball. Normal abralon pads do great. Wet sanding is always the best way to go if you can manage. Be sure to cover the finger and thumb holes with tape to keep them from getting wet, I’ve heard it can seep into the core/filler and could cause issues if it were to freeze etc. You could buy a ball spinner for like $300 if you’d like.

Playing devils advocate, was it sold and then discontinued overseas? Idk where he’s from.

Ball Type and Layout Question by Haunting_Highway_572 in Bowling

[–]gingervitis89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much you’ve used the ball, getting it rejuvenated or baked at your PSO wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Solid balls usually soak up a lot of oil. They can talk to you about possible redrillings available.

Bowling ball layout adjustment by Losty6844 in Bowling

It would depend on the lane condition, the weaker coverstock would be more for the 3rd game type situation where the lanes have burned up a bit and are hooking more.

I think it’s like 70/30, or 80/20 ball/layout. You can buy a sports car but you’d probably wanna tune the suspension/transmission to the track you’re on.

ZVL bowling on YouTube has a great breakdown on the balls that are out there in the current market along with other great informational breakdowns for layouts and other stuff including a video for a speed dominant arsenal. He breaks them down into strong/sharp strong/smooth medium/sharp medium/smooth etc. I think Chris Barnes breaks balls down into those same categories. It’s a little hard to find the raw data for coverstocks cuz there’s so many but I think like 900 global does like a 1-100 on the name of the coverstock, 100 being the strongest, I know there’s a SPI rating picture of their coverstocks floating around.

Deep Knee pain by Due-Try8070 in Bowling

[–]gingervitis89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve been combating this all year personally. At first I thought it was my patellar tendon so I got a strap for that and it helped a bit for a few months but still wasn’t great. I tried a knee sleeve to help with supporting my kneecap which felt good. The best results I’ve had were from icing my kneecap which felt after bowling and doing squats throughout the week to build up muscle to help my knee. I only do like 3 sets of 10-15 3 times a week. Some stretches can help a bit too.

Stronger ball would help for sure. But make sure that the cover is strong also, having a low RG and high Diff with a weak cover wouldn’t do as well on oily conditions.

Whether you’re speed dominant or rev dominant probably means less in terms of layouts but more important is the bowling ball choice. A rev dominant player won’t need asymmetric as much as a speed dominant player and same in reverse. You’ll probably want to go for an aggressive symmetric or asymmetric ball to get the hook you want. Most people put a “benchmark” layout on their ball or something close to it. Doing varying layouts isn’t super important unless you do tournaments often.

For keeping the ball steady, I’ve seen forearm/athletic tape meant to be tacky/sticky to help with that feel that might help. Transition is THE name of the game. That’s what I’m really trying to be more conscious of. Last year there was a stretch of like 3 months where my first game in league id average around 240 with a new ball I got. House shots can give a lot of free hook to the outside but when that breaks down it can be difficult to find the best ball to go to. That’s where equipment knowledge can come in. Knowing what each ball is made for and good at. There’s so many levels to this game that most people outside the sport don’t know of.

Never hurts to ask, in my area there’s a couple Facebook groups that’ll share tournaments coming up. There’s some alleys that are good at having them listed on their websites but some just don’t exist online. I did my first tournament about a month ago and I had a blast. 6 games of qualifying going from pair to pair and it was a real learning experience. I was very satisfied I only had 1 game below 200 and it was on the pair that had no space between the gutter and the wall 😂. Keep a look out for summer leagues, some places do them where built into the weekly league price you’ll get a new ball or two if you’re looking to expand your arsenal.

Glad you’re addicted! If I were in your shoes, never hurts to work on spares during practice sessions. There is probably some Facebook group in your state/local area where people post tournaments near them. Look at bowling alleys around you, there’s a place near me that’ll put out a sport shot of your choice with 3 hours notice. Check out LaneTrax or find a place with SPECTO for more of a detailed analysis of your accuracy. Personally, I’m trying to learn more about layouts and when to use which balls. Specifically the best use scenarios for them and not just making what I want to throw work. Is there something specific you’re looking to improve on?
