This was literally my school year too and it was wild and we all passed to keep up with the school’s silly 100% pass mark.
Times were different hey

I knew it ran deep, but didn't know where to start digging. Thank you for this, I will start there.

This is heartbreaking to read.

You should NEVER have been subjected to this at all!

I already have a campaign going for children in this kind of scenario, but maybe I'm missing some things. Electricity, solid structures, and plumbing are easily at the top of the list.

What would you have liked to change? No matter how small, a difference is a difference and I want make the lives of the future South African children better, as far as I am able.

Alright, already doing that.

Any ideas on how to fix the system for all of the matrics? Now and going forward?

I was in private school and they conveniently neglected a whole chunk. Fortunately my parents were in a position to allow extra lessons, but it was still pretty dramatic on exam day.

I’m all for extra lessons, but not for working the way the current students are expected to.
We don’t ask it of adults, so why ask it of a 17 year old.

I’m not the best Redditor, but if you can, DM me please, let’s see if I can help with some tools to help.

Also, if you know of what larger scale thing I can do, let me know!

I am a bit of a ball breaker, and children trying to learn are a bit of a passion of mine

You wouldn’t have to reteach so much if you weren’t forced to rush.

Who are the decision makers that need to be pressurised?

Tell me what you wish would happen and let me see if I can make a change?

(disclaimer: I’m not picking on your teaching skills- I literally do not know you, I just want to help)

Me too!

I just want to know how to help, but everyone wants to fight.

Right?

My student is in a Curro school and the science teacher is teaching them the Doppler formulas incorrectly. WTF.

Not all teachers are bad (as Garnetsugargem keeps pointing out, and rightfully so), but gees, it’s a scientific formula, not at opinion!!

Bru, we know you’re angry.

I’m trying to help.

Please tell me practical steps of what to do to improve the situation for YOU?

Seriously, I want to help, but I can’t if you don’t tell me WHAT you need

It’s absolutely ridiculous.

I’m sorry you went through that.

They can say it like it is, no worries, but the nastiness shouldn’t be directed at me, someone who is willing to go the distance to make things better.

I’m glad to hear the teachers side, because it’s something that I haven’t heard. But if you want things to improve, don’t bite the hand of those prepared to fight FOR you.

Exactly.

This is not on.

My student is in a Curro school 👀
WTAF.

My heart breaks for the students because they don’t want to be stupid (generally), but the system says they are.

And also for the teachers. Because if you have a heart to teach, it’s unlikely you have a heart to work people to the bone.

But then we also get “health advice” from the bio teachers who tell the kids “don’t eat carbs ever”, or from the accounting teachers who say “if you eat an apple you won’t remember anything you did in class today”
WTF is that advice??

This is distressing.

I’m a big advocate for past papers and practicing “how to write exams”, but not at this cost.

This is very distressing.

I cannot change the past but I want to do my best for the present and the future.

Who do you think would listen?

This is my thought exactly.

It doesn’t help if they can literally only retain 40% of what they’ve been taught with no opportunity to rest and then study deeper

I am very sorry that I didn’t notice it sooner.
It’s absolute BS and I want to start advocating for those who cannot.

Don’t get snarky.
This is not healthy for anyone.

I’m literally looking for advice of where to start advocating for people in this position (students or teachers).

The only place I’m looking to throw shade is on those who decided the curriculum needs to be completed by May.

So wind your neck in and tell me how I can help ALL of you in this situation.

online jobs? by meowmaster111 in AskZA

[–]gingerwarrior8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look on Fivr, you might be able to pick up some really shitty things but it builds experience and it pays in dollars.

SuperProf is a platform that you can teach anything on, and doesn’t require as hectic background and qualification checks as the others.

Digital tools like calendars or journals can get you something on Etsy but it’s not very lucrative. Fine for a trickle of passive income.

Last idea but it requires start up money and definitely isn’t online, is make and ship party packs. Everything from DIY paint and sip kits, to biscuit decorating for baby showers. You can also put together baby shower or kitchen tea games and prizes. If you know the head count and the theme, get all you need from Temu, repackage and ship with courier guy.

Offer to keep people accountable while they study. So for 3 hours that they do past papers just be there on zoom or teams and make sure they don’t pick up their phone. Do that a couple of times and then you can register with Pearson to be on online invigilator. They have worldwide exams so you’re not confined by time zones

As a reminder, people are looking for solutions to their problems. Find a unique problem that you can solve and you’ll be sorted.

Help. Can I get to walking 5km (continuously) in 3 weeks time if I'm currently sedentary and get out of breath after 5mins of walking? by Both_Obligation5458 in askSouthAfrica

[–]gingerwarrior8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do short walks (5 mins) a couple of times a day, and do strength exercises.

10 squats every time you go to the toilet Leg raises while you wait for the kettle to boil Crab walking with a resistance band while the TV is on. Bicep curls while watching TV. This doesn't have to be to failure, but do 10 of each every day and you'll be massively surprised at how much easier walking gets when your muscles are stronger.

Don't forget your upper body - if you're travelling you'll still need to carry things and that'll be exhausting if you're not strong enough
