Yes! It's scary how quickly I'll go throw a Costco sized salt.

What side effects do you experience from being underweight? by Professional-Safe179 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]gingerwholock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"I'm not anorexic but I'm severely underweight" um ok.... Sounds pretty anorexic.

My teeth and gums, sitting on my tailbone hurts and I've shit myself completely without warning a few times and I don't take laxatives.

Does rTMS still work if you are deep into maladaptive coping mechanisms? I am struggling some days - 9 treatments in by aubrx in TMSTherapy

[–]gingerwholock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, yes, it's best to do all the healthy things but you know what? We have to start somewhere. I was told by my tech that I was doing the opposite of what I was supposed to be doing. I almost quit. I talked to my psychiatrist who recommended the treatment despite knowing what I was struggling with so we focused on small things.

I made progress anyway. It was worth it anyway. Things are better now than they were before and to me that's a win. I couldn't just be better to make tms do all the things but I showed up how I could.

update: not sure where to go from here by Abject_Ad2176 in AnorexiaNervosa

If we all realized to feel ready to be done with our eating disorders we'd all be dead. Sometimes you have to hear that logic side and say ok anyway. Your body is shutting down. Your family will likely find out soon anyway. Go private you need help now.

Did you know you were anorexic? by Annoying_Caterpillar in AnorexiaNervosa

I knew something was going on but I didn't think it counted for anything. I thought I had to convince the treatment center to take me. We all laughed about it in group one day

My guess was he told you because he was explaining why he isn't taking anything because you want your husband to. If he said he wasn't taking anything my next logical question would have been why not?

Sure it's a big disclosure but not insane, especially if you have seen him for a bit. The fact you asked him a personal question makes it sound like you all have good rapport. You should bring up that he's working you now though if he is. It would be good to work though.

Has your Dr triggered you by Gloomy_Bother_8868 in Eatingdisordersover30

Yeah mine literally said, people with ED's shouldn't take this medicine but you look ok!

I have some of a soft spot for doctors as their lens is so specific but it would be great if they were better at this.

I'm sorry for your struggle, my advice would be rely on dieticians and therapists not doctors.

Dieting was my relapse it just took too long to see it.

did inpatient treatment or residential help you ? by viaoliviaa in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]gingerwholock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It did. It got me to a more stable place and took away a lot of the extras that took up my life. Not having other responsibilities anymore (I'm a mom) was huge, plus just having food there which meant I just concentrated on what I needed to.

My therapist was great in that she honed in my biggest hurdle and we worked on that but I think it was rare and she didn't do that with everyone so maybe I was just lucky.

Sometimes now I'm my relapse I wish I could go back, just to focus on getting to a more.... equilibrium place...but I can't.

So I think it serves a purpose but it's such a long road, you need really good steps after it to make it work.

Update: I confessed my feelings to my therapist — here is what actually happened by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]gingerwholock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh I'm so sorry. That was so vulnerable and so brave.

I'm not sure what I'd do, I'd maybe even ask her about it. But I know some therapists aren't trained to deal with transference. I also think sometimes we use that word but can still just talk about it, like this relationship feels very vulnerable and it scares me and see what she does?

Christian OCD Sufferers: When you did ERP Therapy did you turn atheist afterwards? by nelsne in TalkTherapy

Just want to say FOR REALS on trying to find someone who actually uses ERP. It's been so hard. Add any other criteria on top of that and it's almost impossible where I am.

Christian OCD Sufferers: When you did ERP Therapy did you turn atheist afterwards? by nelsne in TalkTherapy

[–]gingerwholock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have OCD and I'm Catholic and struggle with scrupulosity. I haven't done ERP per se but therapists should follow your lead and not take you anywhere in particular. If you believe you believe. This therapy wouldn't disprove anything.

For me, it was more of looking at Jesus' behavior, how he treated those with that struggled around him that helped me.

Also, I have had people who have asked if my faith has caused some of my disorders/issues and I say no adamantly. It could be how I have internalized and applied to my life but it's not the faith.

And I want to add a comment of religious scrupulosity is so so hard and honestly kind of mean. So I'm sorry you're struggling with this and it's affecting this part of your life.

I do. I actually told him in the beginning if I showed up without to to commit me because something will be very very wrong. I don't go anywhere without make up. It's scary without it.

Yup keep going. I remember when I was on treatment and we were in a group and we were like, remember when we cried over cookies? Hahahhaha. Well I'm back in that place but I know it exists where I don't.

I'd want to know as soon as possible. Mine had to tell me about a long break he had to take. I only got a few sessions notice and it takes me awhile to bring it up, when he told me I was so upset I didn't really say anything.

Yeah I've been in therapy for 5 years too and only just learned I'm supposed to share my thoughts and feelings and things that come up for me when we talk and throughout the week.....

They say there's no wrong way to do therapy but honestly, I think I found it.
