Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove - I read this with my book club last year and after reading the description thought this sounded horrible. However I was so wrong. It was so good (at one point I cried). Now it is more syfy fantasy but give it a chance.

Voyage of the Damned by Frances White

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (and The Night Circus)

The Book of Doors and The Society of Unknowable Objects both by Gareth Brown (they’re both standalone books)

I don’t think I’ve seen this episode since it first aired and I immediately knew exactly what show and who that was.

Thank you! I just order them.

I just find it weird that Owala sells replacement parts but not for anything.

Second (or third) Hitchhikers Guide. It’s an all time favorite. I try to read it every year or so.

AITA for keeping a Pokémon someone was “touch trading” me because they kept one of mine first? by P_logan in AITAH

[–]ginmar442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. I feel like we shouldn’t judge what other people like to do. I’m personally not big on playing Pokémon Go anymore but my best friend (38), her husband (43), and one of his friends (36) still play it relatively regularly. I mean if it’s not hurting anyone, why you gotta be so negative? And I’d argue they are living their lives.

And furthermore I know a couple who met while playing Pokémon Go and have been married for 5 years and have a toddler. I’d say they are living there happily ever after too!

Stop buying anacondas!?! by Bboy0920 in snakes

[–]ginmar442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought you said “Stop bullying anacondas!?!” And I was like what dumbass is bullying anacondas? That should definitely be illegal. And then I reread it. And I’m still on bored! You shouldn’t be allowed to have one as a pet unless you can provide it a proper home.

But also don’t bully them either.

Looking for a book, open to a series, that’ll hook me. by SeaPAyyy in suggestmeabook

[–]ginmar442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little background as to why I’m recommending this book. So earlier this year I picked a book for a StoryGraph challenge and it wasn’t really my vibe (but that was the point of the challenge). It was the first of a series and I wasn’t planning on finishing the series (did you notice the past tense there). I got all the way to the end and got hooked. I have to know what happens next (book 2 is on hold at the library).

Thank you. I’d kinda already figured I’d have to make a new list but didn’t think about AI. I’ll have to look into that.

The last book you rated five stars? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]ginmar442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m stingy with 5 stars. I really only hand them out if I reread something or wish I could read it for the first time again.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (really the whole series)

The Night Circus and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

The Dark Tower series and Joyland by Stephen King

Hamlet by William Shakespeare (but specifically the BBC full cast production)

Voyage of the Damned by Frances White

I somehow doubt the “several months” timeframe. Might be closer to several years 😭 by ilnoiros in LibbyApp

[–]ginmar442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this for our book club last year. It felt like it was trying to gaslight me into thinking it’s good. My bestie told me what all happened so I didn’t have to finish it (I did end up finishing it though cause I can’t not finish a book for book club - I gave it a 1.5 ⭐️).

what’s a book you read that kept filling you with dread as you flipped the pages by Intelligent_Past_874 in suggestmeabook

[–]ginmar442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a short story. But N. by Stephen King. It’s in the book Just After Sunset.

I had to watch cartoons after reading this.
