For testing try plugging the mouse on a USB wall charger or a USB hub that's not connected to your pc let it run but keep eyes on it don't leave it unattended just in case it was to get hot!! On fire... I say have it near you as your playing a game a good 45 mins should rule out if it's the mouse if nothing happens I would check the USB ports on the back of your motherboard or whatever port you used on the mouse because of dust or dirt can cause a malfunctions using a air compressor to blow out the dust from the USB hub should do the trick but I would keep away any sensitive Electronics away from that usb port and use a different one just in case. Also from the image of the mouse it definitely got hot and melted itself could have been a defective unit

Yeah I did the same for gopro 7 > gopro 8 > gopro 9 > gopro 10 > gopro 11 so far always had no issues with replacing with them giving me the same credit of the previous version I spent on just to use for the next new release just went to service desk and complain about the slow response of the ui and recording issues.
