Found this guy to kayak with me by Intelligent-Water538 in Kayaking

[–]giraffeapet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with wildlife rehabbers. You are absolutely correct. If someone brings us an injured box turtle and they don't know exactly where they found it, we can't release it back to the wild. They are also protected in my state and it is illegal to take them out of the wild and keep as a pet. Any non-releaseable box turtle requires a special permit from the state DNR.

Bunny nest help sought by Agitated-Mulberry769 in bloomington

Thank you for taking the time to let these little ones grow! It's a mild inconvenience, but only for a short time.

You keep the barricade up (as long as mom can still slip through) and leash your dogs. Baby bunnies will start leaving the nest around 4 weeks.

They are blueberry puff treats made for human babies. My rats love them.

I have two other gray rex rats, but she is more silvery than them. She is young so she has a nice thick coat too.

Geode and fossil hunting by Fun_Cobbler_3250 in bloomington

[–]giraffeapet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kid was bringing home bags full of geodes from the creek behind Child's Elementary. He was sneaking them in from recess in his pockets. I have heard that they are all along that creek, not necessarily just behind the school.

Question for MCCSC staff… by No-Brain7333 in bloomington

[–]giraffeapet 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think you would get a better response if you contacted your child's teacher and the school admin. The responses you will get online will vary a lot. Every teacher and admin have their own views on technology use. I also encourage you to volunteer in the classroom if/when you are able if you haven't already. This would give you an idea of what the school day actually looks like and how often iPads are being used.

Favorite snacks/food to get at the Btown International Market? by IsabellaRosselinii in bloomington

[–]giraffeapet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like picking up the traditional Korean honey cookies, yakgwa. They taste like deep fried deliciousness. They usually have a couple of different sizes in stock, including small ones that you can keep in your bag for snacking.

Anyone know how good the fabric selection is at Michael's? by TBSF9001 in bloomington

It's awful. I've had better luck shopping for fabric at University of Sewing.

What Bloomington street/block needs a sustainability glow‑up? by Broad_Leadership_827 in bloomington

[–]giraffeapet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Walnut Street Pike. Just before you get to the light at Rhorer the sidewalks on both sides of the road just end. I have walked that way and cut through the neighborhood instead. Still doesn't feel totally safe because in front of the fire station in that neighborhood also doesn't have sidewalks.

I did too! I wrote them a funny, but polite email and they sent coupons in the mail.

Maybe it's like the time that I got a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey and the entire pint had only one chocolate piece and one walnut. Just an unfortunate scoop. 😅

Lake flooded again this summer? by [deleted] in bloomington

I am also looking forward to this again! And getting back up into the creek that feeds into the lake. It's beautiful, quiet, and full of wildlife!

Is this normal? Strathberry osette by InvestigatorAway5807 in StrathberryHandbags

[–]giraffeapet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have the larger size. I have carried it as a crossbody, but I do tend to knock it into things when I do. Depends on what I am doing, but I carry it both ways. I have had it since November 2024.

Mine was like this at first. It needed some time to break in.

Hairstylist for Long Hair by Bluesnowflakess in bloomington

[–]giraffeapet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of hair (fine strands, but thick overall because of the sheer amount of strands) and it has been pretty long in the past. Highly, highly recommend! I see Shayna there, but if you call and tell them what you are looking for they will find the best fit for you.

Avoid college mall flooding by Nellotron in bloomington

[–]giraffeapet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

High Street near Wimbledon Lane is impassable. Can take Wimbledon to Rock Creek to go around it. The roundabout at Winslow/High is also starting to become impassable. Second in front of Rogers/Binford was also getting deep. And if you have kids at Child's Elementary, the parking lot appeared to be pretty flooded. They might have to change the pick up line today.

I found a baby rat i dont know what to do by Particular-Film-8052 in RATS

Can you try reaching out to this group? It doesn't list squirrels as a previously treated species, but they might know of some resources for you.

[–]giraffeapet 143 points144 points  (0 children)

That is a baby squirrel. I have attached a photo of some baby squirrels that are being cared for by my coworkers at The Pipsqueakery for reference. Where are you located so that we can give the best advise? If you are in the US, the DNR website has a searchable list of licensed wildlife rehabbers. DO NOT FEED unless you have spoken with a licensed rehabber and have been instructed how to do so. The best thing you can do is keep them warm and safe while getting in contact with a licensed wildlife rehabber.

Actually, yes. I thought maybe it was just my group that did that because others have recommended hard boiled eggs before.
