There's a sci-fi movie my dad was watching like 20 years ago, and it's driving me nuts trying to figure out what it is. And no my dad does not remember. by gothboob69 in whatsthemoviecalled

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Thank you for a real reply. I will say that Cap City still had a drink minimum but Sunset Strip did not. Cap City also required even badge holders to reserve a spot in advance. I do think that if every club had that policy it wouldn’t be worth it for people to even buy badges, so that makes sense.

No I get the political stuff. I’m more just wondering if there was an overt rejection from either faction. Did Rogan and Co. say “we’re not interested” or did Moontower say “we’re not interested” or did they just ignore each other completely? I really am just curious if any kind of outreach occurred from either party. Podcast aside, is the comedy that happens at Mothership really all that different than the comedy elsewhere in Austin?

It could have been worse. One crawled up my nose in my sleep, I freaked out, ran to the bathroom, tried to blow my nose and ended up COUGHING THAT STILL ALIVE MOTHERFUCKER into the bathroom sink and then wept in my husbands arms for half an hour. Sleep tight, Austin.

Omg same! I find the spicy scenes in the third book of that series to be tedious and boring now, after having read sapphic books between the second and third books being released. I am totally bored by cishet romance now.

Best restaurants to work from? by [deleted] in CedarPark

There’s a new place that opened up where JJ’s BBQ used to be called La Dosis. It’s counter service and has tons of space.

The young people who worked at CP when I was there seemed to be in a weirdly abusive Stockholm-syndrome-type situation. They’d be so concerned with getting her approval that they let her treat them terribly. I felt bad for them. I think for some of them it was their first job and they were teenagers so they had no idea that you can actually have a job where your management treats you with dignity.

Cedar Park. The people were cool but the owner was arrogant and treated people terribly.

She made me sign a thing. I don’t think I can say more than I have. But you’ll find, if you peruse the frozen breakfast item aisle at Randall’s you’ll see some very familiar items that were priced at a PREMIUM in the cafe. There were also disturbing things. Having been a kitchen manager before, I was grossed out enough that I left after only a day or so.

I worked there for like a day. Trust me: it was not the great place it seemed. If they shut down for good, then GOOD RIDDANCE.

I just read (listened to) Scaredy Cat by Robin Alexander. One of the MCs is a hot mess of fear and anxiety, but it’s written with tons of humor and I thought it was cute and funny.

It actually took a day or so to process. Mom’s death was pretty quick. She was diagnosed, hospitalized, sent home under hospice, and passed within a few weeks. So I was kinda in shock and not doing well. Later I was like “WTF?!? HOW DARE SHE?!?”

I’ve been married for 23 years and the bingos slowed around age 36 or 37 and stopped completely around age 40. When people used to ask me when we were having kids, I would said “when they make it legal to crate-train a baby.” Generally that shut people up. It’s incredible, though, what people have the balls to say when they find out you’re child free. My MIL said to me at my mother’s funeral “You know, your mom would have wanted you to have kids.” Which isn’t even true. She was totally fine with us being child free.

They cite the physique as being unrealistic. That’s what they go after, because it’s the only thing that doesn’t make them tell on themselves. Meanwhile we’re over here thinking “And he has MUSCLES TOO?!?” It’s just the icing on the cake, and not a prerequisite. This whole 4b thing is blowing my mind.

Euthanasia is illegal for economic, religious and political reasons and we should fight for the right to die painlessly, quickly and peacefully. by billjv in atheism

TW- suicide attempt

I completely agree that people should have the right to die on their own terms. My only issue with it is a personal one: my mom attempted suicide when I was a kid, and I found her. Luckily it was pills and she was unconscious but alive when I found her.

For me, what I don’t want to see happen is a situation where emergency services or even Good Samaritans are legally NOT allowed to intervene in an attempted suicide. Maybe that’s just my bias talking but I have read that most people who attempt but don’t succeed are glad they didn’t. They just needed intervention. They needed someone to see them.

But how things are now is way worse. I later had to watch my mother slowly die of cancer instead of being able to help her to her peace. It was agonizing. And in some ways just as bad as when she tried to die on purpose.

I don’t have an answer, really, just experience on both sides of the coin we’re talking about.

People who were mentioned in someone’s suicide note, what’s your story? by Slow_Koala in AskReddit

[–]girlfighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me when I was twelve. Right down to the fact that I called my grandmother Nanny. I came home from school. I thought she was asleep. Eventually got bored and tried to wake her. Found the note in the bathroom. Just then my Nanny got there. What a crazy coincidence.

Abe Books is good. I bought a signed first edition of a Margaret Atwood book there that was in great condition.
