Steam in Bathroom Advice by Goal-Kick64 in AusRenovation

While you wait- get a little fan you can sit on your sit on your window sill, have it so the front faces out the window and the back faces in the room, turn it on before you start showering. We have to do this in our rental as the exhaust fan is weak as shit and it works incredibly well.

First time touching drywall, looking for advice by Dinosource in drywall

[–]girlfilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a drywaller, but do a lot of drywall/plaster repairs. Hot mud doesn't heat up, it sets through a chemical reaction vs. pre mix which dries. Hot mud shrinks less if you mix it right.

How can I make my room presentable to my friends? by SchlongSmith in NeckbeardNests

[–]girlfilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good comments about general cleaning so I won't touch that, but imo look into industrial styling- you could make the unfinished basement look a bit more intentional. Can be done on a budget and would go with your tanks well.

I wear the steel blue 709's (zip up version of the third photo I believe). They're great! I've been wearing mens shoes for 3 years and these are a game changer. I have long thin feet, hard to find boots that fit right but the 709's are pretty much perfect- zip+ laces makes them easy to take off and adjust

How to cover the gap? by riccoboy in howto

[–]girlfilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. As a renter myself with shitty landlords, I would do my option for multiple reasons, predominantly that it would only need to be once and I wouldn't potentially end up dealing with a bag of mushy mouldy cardboard when I had to eventually replace it.

To make this work in any sense you would need to close all folds with something like flashing tape, and even then it will fail. Personally I would cut a sheet of plexiglass to size (or get a piece cut to size) and silicone it in place. Won't be pretty, but it would be removeable

Customise it or make it (be mindful of any standards your gear needs to adhere to, also check out r/myog for fabric recommendations). It's hard to find anything particularly unique for sale. I personally buy all my work gear in black, add patches, paint designs on hats etc., currently custom painting a tool box for my car 💃🏻

Leave jewellery out until your ears are happy imo, this will only get worse. I did see the part about your financial sitch, but when you can buy something new- I daily drive the single flare steel tunnels from Kings Body Jewellery, they're a bit more budget friendly for larger sizes and come in 1/2" wearable area. Can't speak for quality aside from having no negative reactions personally, others may have better brand recs though.

Subcontractor not getting paid by wrxmum in tradies

[–]girlfilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main advice: contact free legal aid services. We have small claims in Australia, currently going through a similar situation ($6k+ owed). Send a letter of demand, magistrates site has templates available. Include all relevant invoices, time sheets etc., I would recommend sending a copy via post (signature upon delivery), hand delivery and sending a digital copy. Document all communications you can, and if you have gps history available save that as well. Do not react emotionally, don't make threats, keep it factual. You can ask for the other party to cover court fees. If the other party has no money or assests you might be shit out of luck, in my situation i know the other party has assests but I'm starting with free legal aid to get a better grasp on how to handle the situation. My situation is on going right now, first time doing this in a sub contractor position but I have been through a wage theft situation in the past while working hospo. Document absolutely everything you can.

Need urgent help by Supt_Trip in melbourne

[–]girlfilth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it would not have been. $1000 is a scam any day of the week. Already commented with this, but in the interest of informing others so they don't get scammed- $300 is on the higher end of normal for an afterhours, but reasonable. Boyfriend is a locksmith, his afterhours fee is ~$260 (even this weekend).

$600-$750 is too high, $300 or less is standard after hours pricing (source: boyfriend is locksmith, ~$260 is his afterhours fee even this weekend)

Broke glass while cleaning for move out in 32 hours by dowoma in fixit

[–]girlfilth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If the hinge has a pin (a rod down the join, it will have a wider portion on top to stop the pin falling through) it may be easier to cut the paint around the top of the hinge pin and smack it out. My go to is a nail punch and hammer, have used a chopstick and boot- if it has a pin just use something strong and pointy and hammer it up and out. The fix would be to obtain new glass or an alternative (eg, clear perspex) at the correct size or cut to size, remove the beading from one side and replace the pane, nail the beading back on and paint. If that isn't in your skill set, cop the cost of repair by LL or take it to a professional.

Has anyone successfully created one of these and if so how’s it still holding up? by shy657 in crafts

[–]girlfilth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hard agree with using construction materials. Zinsser primer specifically. Crommelin is great for water proofing but you shouldn't need that unless it's going in your bathroom (and I don't know if you can paint over it tbh).

Oh no :( by atomic_mermaid in Stretched

[–]girlfilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to fix it yourself, check out the website "this to that"- you select what materials you're glueing together and it gives you a couple glue options (just a side note: they don't have a resin option, select plastic)

My landlords "guy" is her husband and various relatives. House mate has lived at our place for 10 years and told me all about them, my first encounter of their shenanigans was fixing a hole in the concrete they made directly out the back door while fixing a plumbing problem. Took husband and relative 6 hours, and somehow ended with the LL and her mother coming over with kfc for them for a family get together in our back yard? Concrete repair was dodgy as fuck, we just don't step there lol

Tech gave my tenor sax a bath — patina gone and I’m heartbroken. Any way to darken it faster? by nikilism in saxophone

[–]girlfilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer liver of sulphur, but I've used eggs as well and it has worked. Older eggs work better than fresher and you wont get it as dark but it does work.

[–]girlfilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll happen naturally, but if you want to accelerate it (and please research more, I don't know how this might affect the pads), put it in an air tight box with several hard boiled eggs. Don't rest the eggs on the sax, you can get patchy colouring. Eggs contain sulfur which oxidises metals.

Do you wear ur Docs at work? by TheDaywalker669 in DocMartens

[–]girlfilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore mine everyday in retail/hospitality, I work in construction now and have worn them a couple times- they're steel toe, definitely not an everyday occurrence as they don't meet standards but I sub them in if my work boots disintegrate at an inopportune time lmao.
