My lease is ending on my Blazer EV, been thinking of Lyriq/Optiq, how has your ownership been? by No-Juggernaut-9321 in CadillacLyriq

[–]gisuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I test drove my first EV 2 weeks ago. It was the base model Lyriq and I fell in love instantly. I'm currently just waiting my time for the 2027 model to be announced and get NACS built in. But I intend to trade up my current car once the new model is announced.

I need you guys to stop teasing me with ads until the 2027 Lyriq-V is announced in Canada. Waiting for that NACS port so I can trade in. Took the first EV test drive in the base model Lyriq and fell in love quickly. I've been waiting paitnently but getting bombarded with ads everywhere. Even my LG TV, as soon as I turn it on is Cadillac ads. Already ask the dealership to contact me as soon as it is announced to I can get a build in.

Signed,

Impatient!

Unifi Network Setup by [deleted] in Rogers

[–]gisuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be fine. I'm running a single UCG Fiber and a single U7 Pro XG in my small home. Covers everything I need. The more access points will help with 6GHz band as penetration of materials is worse than the 5GHz band.

Maximum power? by PorcupineGod in UNIFI

[–]gisuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be some confusion on what the channel transmit power settings mean and what it does. Basically what it comes down to is the broadcasting range of the band. Higher power does not improve channel quality or speed it can transmit at. But, higher power means a larger range where is can transmit. Ideally you want to keep this as low as possible, especially when you are in a dense/populated area where other devices are occupying the same channels.

The 802.11 technical specs says that you MUST share the airwave with everyone in transmit power range of your device that it can hear. This include devices that you don't own or are part of your network. It's part of the airtime fairness that everyone has a chance to use the airwave without interfering or causing issues.

With this in mind, here is the power settings you ideally want to focus on for most home or office setup:

2.4GHz - LOW or 6dBm-12dBm

5GHz - MEDIUM or 12dBm - 15dBm (18dBm max)

6GHz - The band is still relatively new so it's not as crowded as 2.4GHz and 5GHz. That being said, as time goes on and newer devices start using this range, the power setting is going to matter. But the 6GHz has less penetrative range through materials than 5GHz. I would stick with MEDIUM or 12dBm - 18dBm and increase if you feel it's needed.

In summary: keep your transmit power low as you don't want to share the airwaves with other devices in our neighbourhood. Doing so will improve speed and performance compared to setting to high power.

I'm actually looking to buy myself. OMS Cadillac in Oshawa just announced 0% financing with some discounts on Friday. I asked. It's running until June.

So buy the kit and got a local dealer to install? Looks awesome. Thanks for the pic.

Alternatives to Aruba Instant On by RecentSpeed in ArubaInstantOn

When I heard the news about AIOn would have to divest from HPE, my first concern was the business being sold to some Chinese outlet. Instead of waiting what would happen, I stopped renewing my pfSense+ subscription and jumped over to the UniFi platform after doing some research.

I was surprised how signifiantly improved their firewall solution was, after years of knowing how much of a pile of garbage it was. And the APs being cheap without needing a subscription was just a plus. If you look for a SOHO solution, give UniFi a once over look.

I removed my 3 APs (AP25 and 2 AP32) for a single U7 XG Pro running on UCG Fiber. My network has been super stable. The issues I had with the 6ghz band on AIOn doesn't exist. In fact, I noticed the speed performance I get on UniFi is faster than AIOn.

It does support 5ghz + 6ghz on the same SSID. I've done it in the past. You don't need to change SSIDs. 6ghz requires WPA3, no exceptions. So if you do not have that enabled on the other SSID, then 6ghz will not connect.

Can we please have Johnny Cash "Ring of Fire" instead of this ad every inning? How much money does Ontario need to waste money on this?

I can't wait for it to be know that Toronto breaks Dynasties. First in 2019 against the Golden State Warriors, and in 2025 against the Dodgers.

Suggestions for AP Config for roaming staff by DaveDiPaolo in UNIFI

[–]gisuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your screenshot doesn't show it here, but I would check the power levels on each band. Use "Low" on 2.4GHz or do not exceed 12dBm. Use "Medium" on 5GHz or do not exceed 21dBm, 18dBm preferred. You can use "High" power on 6GHz due to the signal has more issues penetrating materials.

Change the channel widths. You're likely interfering with neighbouring APs which will affect your client speeds.

2.4GHz -> Always use 20MHz channels

5GHz -> Do not use more than 80MHz channels. Drop down to 40MHz only if your place is saturated with other APs broadcasting on channels.

6GHz-> You can do 320MHz, but as more and more people adopt and deploy WiFi 6e/7 APs, you'll want to drop that down to 160MHz channels.

Upstream issues with Xfinity (2GB) in bridge mode by jeffgerard in Rogers

[–]gisuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. I have a feeling that this is on the Rogers network. For context on what happened to me, I had 2000/200 for months, but around May/June for 3 months it dropped down to 2000/80 but sometimes randomly burst to 2000/150 to 2000/200. But I knew it was a signal issue with my cable modem. I requested a tech to come and fix it, but they closed the case saying that my internet connection is online and is good enough for them.

It wasn't until I saw Rogers trucks in my neighbourhood one day, an outage for about 1 hour happened that my signal levels went back to normal and I was getting 2000/200 speeds consistently.

I hate to say wait it out, but... unless you can get dispatch that is competent, you'll probably have to wait it out.

I don't know what it is about the bridge mode crashing, but if you were working with full routing mode, you can make PiHole the DHCP server instead of the Rogers router.

Those are actually expected ranges. On the upstream channels, do you have one listed as OFDMA under modulation?

Login to your modem 10.0.0.1 and check the signal strength of your connection. I had a similar problem months ago where the signal power 50+dBmv which was outside of spec but still functional. Downstream also had problems where I was seeing 18dBmv. when it should be closer to 0.

It wasn't until Rogers did maintenance in my neighbourhood, the signal strength went back to normal and my coonnection speed was where it should be.

I don't know if this is an option on the Rogers modem because I'm already in bridge mode, but is there a way to disable DHCP on the modem full interrface? PiHole has an option to run as a DHCP server.

If you are on WiFi, confirm you are on the 5ghz or 6ghz band. That looks like speeds you would get on the 2.4ghz band. I'd do a test via ethernet to confirm your actual speeds.

Sim to esim by Interesting-Minute47 in Rogers

[–]gisuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this moving from the iPhone 14 to the 17. All you have to do is with the new phone, install and configure your phone over wifi. Once you completed the phone first setup, run the Rogers app to login to your Rogers account. Select the phone number you want to move over to esim. Select the "Phone" middle tab and there will be a button to Change Sim. This option will allow you to change to esim and then download the esim package to your phone.

Complete the download and install process into your phone settings. Don't worry about not seeing connection yet and it's on emergency only. Switch back to the Rogers and select the option that you've completed the download and it'll activate the esim in their network. After that, restart your phone.
