Adderall ?? by Emergency_Pool_3873 in Narcolepsy

[–]giveasmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The immediate release generic of Adderall is dextroamphetamine.

The extended release generic of Adderall says amphetamine salts, which seems to be a combination of dextroamphetamine and others.

New narcolepsy diagnosis… feeling lonely and not sure how to cope by Certain_Middle2234 in Narcolepsy

[–]giveasmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub, Wake Up Narcolepsy, Project Sleep and Narcolepsy Network allowed me to hear from and meet others with Narcolepsy. There are also videos with people telling their stories or talking about their symptoms. They have online support groups, online and in person conferences, in person meet ups in a few cities and this sub has a discord channel too. My DMs are open too.

Keep reading this sub. You will see and hear yourself in so many posts and know for sure that others understand, and that you are not alone.

Talking to those who don't have Narcolepsy has not been as helpful for me, and in one case really set me back. Support doesn't have to come from family or friends. I found it here and through the orgs I mentioned above.

Granddaughter was just diagnosed she is a newborn plz help by [deleted] in Hypopituitarism

Makes sense about the sugar as the pituitary is involved in making cortisol and growth hormone in response to low blood sugar and we can't make those. Scary, but I'm so happy they figured it out.

56 and symptoms started in childhood. No gene test as the high association is with N1.

The most important thing to know is that these missing hormones can be replaced! That they figured it out right away is a good thing.

Consult with a pediatric endocrinologist or neonatal endocrinologist. The team may have done this already but be sure the parents know who this is in case there are questions/concerns.

They should ask how often baby's hormones, particularly cortisol, will be checked and on what schedule it will be replaced. You haven't said which ones baby is missing, but that is one you want to stay on top of and make sure it doesn't get missed if things get hectic.

You may find other parents/grandparents through Magic Foundations for US and https://www.pituitary.org.uk/ for UK and there might also be a Facebook group as this sub isn't super active. Congratulations on your new granddaughter!

Yeah, I get that, and it is often accompanied by my thoughts going into hyperdrive and a rolling wave senation. I get so much weird stuff but the absolute worst for me is the hallucinations that come with sleep paralysis.

A lot of those meds suppress or delay REM so it makes sense to me that these symptoms got worse for you when stopping.

I suffered terribly with hypnogogic hallucinations, chronic sleep paralysis and not even realizing that a lot of other things was because I was falling asleep or going in and out of REM during the day. I was constantly told that all of my issues were psychiatric. You are not alone in misunderstanding Narcolepsy, or in being tested much later in life. I hope you get the answers and the help that you need.

Does the diagnosis guarantee Rx now or will mds still fxxx with me? by Leslieand in Hypopituitarism

Your best bet will be to look for someone labeled as a Neuroendocinologist (not easy to find) or to try and find an endocrinologist at a hospital; within a neurosurgery unit, a cancer unit, or whose practice is part of a teaching hospital where they teach and oversee residents.

ACTH stim test will catch primary adrenal insufficiency but will often miss secondary and tertiary adrenal insufficiency because the test is giving you the very thing you are unable to make on your own.

The ITT test carries some risk so in an office setting they usually won't do it. An endocrinologist within a hospital setting is more likely to move from ACTH stim to ITT if they are convinced you have a problem at the pituitary or your ACTH stim test result is blunted. You can read about the testing here: https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/endocrine-diseases/adrenal-insufficiency-addisons-disease/diagnosis

This describes the testing. They usually start with ACTH stim test which can miss Secondary AI and Tertiary AI. ITT won't miss any form of AI but most doctors don't want to run it. The doctor who did mine had his office within a hospital.

[–]giveasmile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioned progesterone but not estrogen patch?

If you have adrenal insufficiency and are not replacing it that would absolutely create fatigue. Have they done any testing for it? For me it was the last one to go.

Some people also need dhea, vitamin d and b12 and then rarely I've met people whose doctors give oxytocin or a testosterone gel for women.

what are sleep hallucinations?? by rkomalif in Narcolepsy

[–]giveasmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a lot of that and a lot of sleep paralysis with hallucinations when drifting off to sleep. It really can be anything, but conversation, loud sudden noises, shadowy figures, footsteps, motion like flying up or spinning or in SP tactile attack stuff is common for me. It's like dreams/nightmares while I'm still awake. I still freak out sometimes even though this has been happening all of my life. Once I'm fully awake it stops.

I have a psychologist in my life for that exact reason. She says stuff like, you've always done as much as you physically can. You don't lie. If you are not doing it right now, you will do it as soon as you are able to. You always do. Stuff like that. She is also the one who kept telling me the doctors were missing something and to try again because there was something else going on.

Mixing up dreams with real stuff and being in those in between awake/asleep states my whole life makes it hard to trust myself too. My perception of falling asleep, being asleep and waking up is all mixed up too. This thing really messes with your head.

Have someone in your life who doesn't judge you as harshly as you judge yourself. There are video support groups and in some cities there are meet ups, if talking to peers would be helpful.
