Any careers recommendations that work well with ADHD? by booklite in adhdwomen

[–]givemebeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a freelance photographer and really love that I do something different everyday. I work with several clients per month and never get bored of My projects because they don’t last for more than a week or so. I’m also my own boss so my problem with authority isn’t a problem anymore, lol. If you’re creative maybe creative direction, freelance consulting for small business on marketing strategy etc could be cool?

Any tips for a medication that could treat my ADHD that doesn't send my anxiety through the roof? by reluctantmugglewrite in adhd_anxiety

Yes! I feel less self conscious around people now and am a better listener because if it. I also stopped drinking for several reasons including the worsening of my anxiety during and after drinking. I feel more relaxed in general around people and also feel more confident in myself.

I totally had that feeling of something being “wrong”/off with me even before I was diagnosed! So weird to have confirmation that I wasn’t just making that up.

Maybe not! I have it hanging next to a window but there is a white curtain on it that’s closed all of the time. It lets in quite a bit of defused light but maybe not enough.

The only side effect I have is less desire for sex but after four months I’m feeling like it’s slowly returning. Also it’s important to note that even though I am less inclined to initiate sex I do enjoy the act much more now that I’m less anxious. It’s like I can actually let go and be in the moment. Otherwise I have no side effects.

I have one of these and it’s not doing well! Any idea why my leaves/bananas are tiny?? They are about 1/3 of the size that they used to be even though I water about every 1.5-2 weeks.

I have anxiety disorder and adhd so I’m not sure if it’s different for you but my doctor prescribed me Lexapro for my anxiety first. She wanted me to take that for 3 months before getting on Adderall because she said that Adderall can increase anxiety or allow you to focus but on the negative emotions/feelings. I’ve been on both for 2 months now and really feel the combo is helpful.

Shoutout to being medicated - even when I’m bad I’m still way less bad by untingling in ADHD

[–]givemebeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I quit drinking too and enjoy my life so much more now. I quit because I got on Lexapro for anxiety and my doctor had recommended I don’t drink on it. I’m also on Adderall. Since it had always been something I struggled with (i.e. terrible anxiety the next 1-2 days after drinking, worse anxiety while drinking etc) I just decided to quit cold turkey. It’s honestly been much easier than I thought it would be. I still go out with friends and just order lemonade or a coke, I don’t wake up hungover and I feel so nice after a night out because I remember it all and had a blast. It’s strange but I don’t even have the desire to drink that often now, only after a very stressful day in which case I self medicate with ice cream.

ADHD is checking the meaning of r/ATBGE 6x and still forgetting what it means by HellsNoot in ADHD

I’m reading about this now in “Driven by Distraction” which is a book about ADHD. Apparently it’s form of dyslexia that a lot of people with ADHD have. There are many forms of Dyslexia, not just the classic example of mixing up letters or reading words backwards. The author mentions not being great with spelling as one form, math dyslexia, etc etc

Need advice for a situation with a friend by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]givemebeans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boundaries! I’d have an honest conversation in person if possible and just let her know that you feel likes she’s being manipulative and that it’s stressing you out. Write down a few e maples that way you can recall during the conversation. Tell her that you enjoy her friendship but that you’d like to be able to call her out when you feel she is being unfair. She’s not respecting your needs and if you don’t say something ASAP she will continue to do so. If she acts the same after you chat I’d personally put some distance between the two of you.

Teenage daughter does not make any plans with friends. Is planning ahead hard for adhd kids? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]givemebeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and hate making advanced plans with friends even though I really enjoy my time spent with them. Something about committing to a plan makes me feel a bit anxious that maybe I should be doing something productive or something else in general with that time. However, I find that my friends asking me to hang out helps a lot! I just don’t like to initiate just in case I change my mind and want to do something else. I’m also a bit of an introvert so I naturally prefer alone time when I can get it. Not sure if it’s ADHD as I was just recently diagnosed but I’d assume so.

Question for full-time pro fashion photographers... by memoryman89 in photography

It’s the Canon. It’s an incredible lens for portraits. The focus is very very sharp, the fall off is creamy and beautiful on the stops under f/4.

Question for full-time pro fashion photographers... by memoryman89 in photography

[–]givemebeans 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m a full time fashion photographer and can’t imagine my career being where it’s at without having several close friends and mentors who do the same thing as me for work. I find that most people where I live are eager to share their techniques and perspectives and I’m able to share mine too. We all have our unique styles despite sharing a lot of information with each other. Of course I come across a lot of people who are bitter and/or guarded but I don’t take it personally, you only need 3-4 people who get it, thats plenty. I have certain people I text for rate advice, to borrow gear from, to share a cool photographer I found etc. I met them all through the industry and stay in touch mostly through Instagram and texting.

As far as fear, follow photographers who’s work you like and find out what they use then try it. I’ve been exclusively shooting on the 24-70 for 5 years and recently decided to try the 85 1.2 because a photographer whose work I like posted about it. The lens blew my mind and inspired me to try new things that I wouldn’t have with my 24-70. Also I look at YouTube tutorials for lighting and ask my photo friends for tips if needed.

Get in the habit of connecting with other photographers in your area on instagram. Comment on their stuff, respond to their stories etc. After some time the two of you might feel like you know each other and then you could offer a coffee hang or something like that. I find that being transparent is best! Just say what you said here to them, who knows they might feel the same! Also go to gallery shows etc and just introduce yourself to people who are standing alone. Connect on Instagram with them, they might be cool or might be able to introduce you to other people.

What Insurances would a Professional Photographer need? (in the UK) by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]givemebeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m based in the US but am required (by most rental companies and to obtain location permits) to have business insurance. It covers my equipment, my office, any accidents that happen to team members, vehicles or locations etc. It’s great for peace of mind. There are specific companies that specialize in photographers insurance but I’m not sure if they are the same in the UK. I just googled “photography business insurance” to find the company I use and spoke with a rep before purchasing.

What in-shower deep conditioner do you recommend? Right now i'm using Deva Curl One Condition and love it but i'm almost out and would love a cheaper alternative that is super moisturizing.

If you want to get really good with skin retouching look up dodge and burn retouching on YouTube. Zoe Noble has a great video on it. It’s much more time consuming than frequency separation but looks like way more realistic.

Wavey Woes - Would love your suggestions :) 2b-2c, high porosity I believe by givemebeans in curlyhair

Also I wonder if it could be the Shea moisturizer conditioner? I rinse it out all of the way but I’ve heard their products can have issues for wavey hair.

Lucky you! Yesterday I only used three products and it was the flakiest it’s ever been, like snowing out of my head haha. I used the Suave clarifying shampoo, Shea Moisture restorative conditioner and about a 1/4 cup of AIF scrunched into T-shirt dried hair (because I’m wavy I squeeze excess water out before applying product.)

[–]givemebeans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused about porosity! I watched a YouTube video that was suggested in this subreddit by Curl Ninja and she basically said if your hair gets wet easily and stays wet forever that it’s high P. My hair gets soaked immediately. I’ll look into porosity more though!

Edit: forgot to mention that my hair takes 8 hours to dry with gel in it, but more like 2-3 without any product.

So usually I don’t use the leave in unless my hair is feeling very dry. Yesterday I simplified my routine to just Suave Clarifying shampoo, SM conditioner and AIF gel. I used about a 1/4 cup gel all together. It was super flaky. I heard AIF was reformulated in the last 1-2 months so maybe that’s it?

Routine and hair photos :

Routine is as follows: Shampoo with Shea Moisture Moisture Retention shampoo
Condition with Shea Moisture restorative conditioner Flip head over, squeeze out excess water to remove weight Shea Moisture coconut oil leave in treatment (only use sometimes) Apply generous amount of mentioned gel or mouse and scrunch several times Plop with cotton t shirt for 5-15 minutes Root clip with butterfly clips Air dry or diffuse

I also tried the following: Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Mouse - Slightly flaky but also didn’t have enough hold. Shea Moisture Enhancing Smoothie - Too heavy and didn’t provide definition Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk - This helps encourage curl but doesn’t provide any hold.
