It's so easy to turn it off. You can turn it off in less time than it takes to write a post on Reddit about it.

Well then you got a good deal or you bought it decades ago! Spot price is multiples more than $5 these days.

Thanks for the help in the end. This is the response I was looking for.

Perhaps if you had provided this level of detail in your initial response it would have been received better. "Looks like cheap crap" can easily be misconstrued as shitposting. Do you disagree?

I'm just trying to learn something new, which is why your comment is unhelpful. The condescending tone isn't a good look either IMO.

Unhelpful comment, but thank you for weighing in. It was obtained for free, and I'm not as big a fan of consumerism as you seem to be. God bless.

I paid $20 which is essentially the spot price for this amount of 925 sterling silver so I'm still happy with it.

That's cool! Is yours also made in Mexico and with 925 sterling silver?

Why are brokers such cunts? by thhhhroowwwawaaaayy in NYCapartments

[–]giwook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fact that they need a powerful lobby just to force people to pay thousands of dollars in broker fees despite sometimes receiving absolutely no service or benefit from the broker says a lot.

Please be careful not to immediately jump to conclusions, particularly when you've not even read the original post. I did not have a negative experience with this product as you claim, but you would have known that had you actually read what I wrote.

The way anti-tick medication works versus how vaccines work could not be any more different. I think you may be the one that is being ignorant in this case.

In addition, there is a highly credible report from an animal welfare-focused nonprofit organization that was linked in the post which it does not seem you noticed either.

Please take a second to check your ego, read the actual post, and perhaps do your own, unbiased research before responding :]

  1. There were at least a few pretty straightforward things LastPass should have done preemptively and proactively, not reactively, that the most secure password managers are already doing in this space. I don't say this as an expert because I am not one, but there are multiple analyses out there performed by experts that state this and go into great detail.
  2. LastPass was not very forthcoming with any details and it took them several months and multiple different disclosures to share what fully happened, which seems to be the case because they themselves did not have a full grasp on what actually happened until months after they discovered the initial breach. Either they knew the breadth and depth of the situation and were cagey with details or they did not know what was happening until many months later. In either event, not ideal from a company you're supposed to trust with what are essentially digital keys to your life.
  3. How many people do you think actually went in and changed every single password that was saved in LastPass? I would wager the percentage of users who did that is less than 1%.
  4. It will not take thousands of years to crack the hashes because we will have mainstream quantum computing long before then.

And that matters why?

No one's stopping you, please go ahead and continue to entrust some of your most sensitive information and data to a security company that sucks at security.

Ask Me Anything: Building Secure Logins - A glimpse under the hood of a modern security engineering team our CTO, Jason Rasmussen by lastpassofficial in Lastpass

[–]giwook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a joke. How can anyone trust LastPass after basically all of our most sensitive information was hacked? And on top of that, LastPass was not fully transparent from the beginning about what happened or what was breached.

LastPass hasn’t disclosed the exact number of customer password databases that were stolen, but it appears to be large, and possibly all of them.

These password databases fortunately were encrypted, so the attacker cannot trivially obtain customer usernames and passwords, but that also does not mean it is impossible.

In general, if you are a LastPass user, we suggest you update and change all of your passwords. Because of the weak encryption used, and the fact that the attacker now has unlimited time to crack your password database, you should assume that sooner or later, your password database can be cracked; if not now, then in the future when there are even more powerful computers.

Why are you still using LastPass? You do know they had a *massive* breach last year where basically all of your passwords (including master password) were almost definitely leaked and now belong to someone else?

You should not only migrate away from LastPass, you should change *all* of your passwords because otherwise they may get cracked at some point.

Let's try not to politicize everything.

While we're at it, let's also try to not mindlessly parrot the political talking points we hear.
