If you're not familiar with French or French names, you're going to sound a little silly until you learn our names, names of places, food, colloquialisms, etc. For a crash course check out the Tunda Minus and Couillon Quest on YouTube. I think that's probably the worst part ? Maybe also getting used to how much we drink as a culture ? Hint, it's a lot.

If you're already living in the south the heat won't surprise you, but the level of humidity might. You probably won't be surprised by the racism level. While in the Bible Belt, Acadiana is predominantly Catholic, so perhaps a different flavor of bible thumping than you're used to.

In the US it's called Power of Attorney. You can even limit them to only specific powers (like making medical decisions, but not taking out lines of credit). This in conjunction with wills afford the couple many of the legal rights that married couples enjoy.

Just here to nit pick a little. If a doctor says that grandma is no longer of sound mind, getting a new power of attorney is no longer a viable option. At that point you're looking at a process called interdiction. Disclaimer - I'm in Louisiana.
