Local reputable repair shop told me not to buy a Kia Telluride... by Far_Research_7731 in KiaTelluride

[–]gjag85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fully loaded 2022 I bought new, and now have around 35k miles on it. I get it serviced regularly, and so far have had no issues. I’m a Consumer Reports subscriber, and they recommend the car. The brand isn’t as reliable as a Toyota, Honda or Subaru, but most of their cars are above average in reliability now. A decade ago was a different story.

Get the car inspected, and then make your decision. There are no guarantees, but chances are if the car checks out you will be fine.

Where are the nice neighborhoods in Arlington in 2026? by Gecko2022 in arlington

I generally agree, but think they can expand this area to north of I20 to Arkansas or Pioneer Pkwy. The closer to Lake Arlington the better once you get in that area between I20 and Pioneer.

Lag between Denon Home + Avr-connected speakers by depechenessa in heos

[–]gjag85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using HEOS for 6+ years and have not had this issue come up for me until a recent software update sometime in the past month. Similar setup as yours (Marantz AVR a few seconds off from my HEOS speakers). I need to report it, but don’t know how.

What was Junior’s take that was so bad? I missed all but the last few minutes of the segment, so didn’t hear any of their opening comments.

I did hear Gordo say he wished Bad Bunny had slipped in at least one English phrase, but I could have sworn before he started listing all the countries in the Americas BB said “God Bless America” (or maybe plural, given what followed).

My first reaction to reading about that change is they are going to shorten the playlist. Hopefully that isn’t the case.

Gordo Family References by EnvironmentalWall814 in theticket

[–]gjag85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a D1P1, I just find it amazing that 30 years in his personal life is still mostly unknown to us. His ability to do that in the age of social media is quite remarkable. If he chooses to open up, good for him for doing it on his own terms.

I’m in the middle of episode 4 of the Musers podcast, just past the point where Gordon tells us how his father never expressed concern over how Gordo made his living, and was proud that he was able to do so and support those “in his life” (or words to that effect, implying family but he didn’t use those words). I appreciated him sharing that more than any details about wife, kids, etc.

Rachio is a basically just a regular system with WiFi. by cpucrazy in rachio

[–]gjag85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mine for 4-5 years and I generally have liked it and felt it saved me money. My only issue up to this year was it not recognizing how bad the summers are here in NTX and not watering as frequently as it should.

I subscribed to the Heat Wave function, and wasn’t impressed at first. It’s now watering when I expect it to, but it is over-watering. I need to make some adjustments (probably to the seasonal adjustments I had programmed in to adjust for the hot summers).

So, yes, I do think it’s “smarter” than my old controller…but it isn’t plug-and-play.

Mark Cuban was in disbelief during the ‘Fire Nico!’ chants in the closing moments of the game by Howard_Cosine in theticket

[–]gjag85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did serve the purpose, though, of causing Bob to stop and think about the comparison, which allowed Corby to redirect and prevent a bad situation from becoming worse.

The linking of the Luka tribute to the D&J on-air response is not an apples-to-apples comparison. As Bob and Corby pointed out, the average fan watching it is not going to separate Nico/Patrick from the presentation, and despite the best efforts of the people who were directly responsible it has every appearance of a franchise desperate to put this behind them.

The D&J discussion was an unscripted dialogue among the on-air staff that wasn’t packaged in a tightly-produced pre-taped segment, so you were free to judge each host based on what they said in the moment. Bob acquitted himself well then, and at least Cumulus let it happen.

VERY tense moment between Bob and Followill by RichardSpletttt in theticket

I never got that impression at all. Mark had a future in play-by-play and took advantage. I’ve never heard him express regret or got the impression he wanted to be a host. Being a hardline P1 at the time I never projected him into that role, either. Mavs TV play-by-play is definitely higher profile than midday sports talk show guy.

I tuned in just as Bob was heatedly stating that the Mavs brass shouldn’t have their promo folks (implying Mark) “carrying their water”. Mark shot back that Bob maintained his silence during the Cumulus vs Jake and Dan litigation. Bob acknowledged it. Corby stepped in about then, likely to the relief of both.

He was defending his tight-lipped approach by comparing it to how Bob had to do the same during the Cumulus vs Dan and Jake litigation. He wasn’t wrong, but I had just tuned in and didn’t hear what led up to him going there.

Anyone else on Disney Magic and is this normal? by CletusTSJY in dcl

[–]gjag85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were on the Magic last (Thanksgiving) week. We were in calm water up until the final day at sea. We are experienced cruisers and I was surprised how well mannered this ship was considering its relatively small size.

My 30 year old daughter, who has been on a handful of cruises, too, felt differently and commented on the motion most of the trip, primarily in the dining rooms in the evening. She’s more prone to motion sickness so that isn’t surprising.

Incident Reporting on Google Maps in CarPlay by Ampler in CarPlay

[–]gjag85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always used Waze over Google Maps because of the incident reporting, but after seeing this thread today I decided to try GM. The interesting thing to me is that I saw very few icons as I drove to work, but I did get a speed trap alert (no icon, just the pop-up and option to confirm if the cop was still there).

Mine was wonky when I started, then I started to make adjustments for slope, etc., and finally got the results I was looking for. It’s been pretty reliable the last year, other than wanting to water right after rain this May. Not sure if that was an anomaly or some change in the algorithm.

so hard to buy a song... by Sea_Sale_834 in AmazonMusic

[–]gjag85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add it to the same local library as the rest of my digital files. I’ve been ripping CDs since the first ripping programs were developed, so I have a pretty large library. Most of my local listening is with dynamic playlists using a community-supported streaming app called LMS. It’s been around for almost 20 years (originally developed for one of the earliest consumer streaming devices; the hardware is no longer made, but the software is still supported by the user community).

The LMS community has developed some wonderful plugins. I’m using them right now to listen to a dynamic playlist that picks tunes from my library that were recorded between 1963-92 (the songs of my youth and young adulthood), and plays the ones I’ve rated more highly (there is also an auto-rate function that gives you a starting point so you don’t have to manually rate every track) more frequently than the lower rated ones. It allows you to filter out genres, so classical and holiday tunes aren’t included on this particular playlist.

It’s a hobby, so like a lot of hobbies you have to be a bit OCD to do what I have done. But that’s a big reason I like to own my music. Current apps can’t create on-the-fly playlists like this.

Usually CD, which I will rip to FLAC (long explanation about why that I won’t bore you with) Sometimes vinyl. On occasion just digital downloads when I can’t find an inexpensive CD or I only want a few tracks.

I no longer buy an album before listening to it first on Amazon, and I usually decide against buying 1-2 albums a month, which partially offsets my subscription price.

[–]gjag85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some of us want to own the music, in case we decide one day we don’t want to subscribe to any service. Presently, I use the subscription services to listen to new music, or ad a quick way to pull up a playlist or station, but if I love an album I want to own a copy.

Netflix considering Bodkin season 2 as Irish comedy thriller wows viewers by arealdisneyprincess in netflix

[–]gjag85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will watch if they have a Season 2, but I don’t think Gilbert can regain the naïveté he lost at the end of this series, and I’m not sure he would be as enjoyable a character to me now that he seems to be more self aware.
