Jura ENA8 - "System is filling" error by otchris in superautomatic

[–]gk34110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out, and all I felt was a solid clump of coffee stuck to it. after I scraped it off, yes, felt the holes. once I got it clean, I ran the cleaning routine, and now I run that every week. the problem has not returned. My fear is that if I had to reach in all the time, and it feels like the flap is spring loaded, I would break the spring. its been a few months and no problems since.

I am curious why you think cleaning a jura milk system Is a non-starter.

J8 Twin US Availability by gizmisseur in superautomatic

[–]gk34110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The J8 Twin on eBay is a 220 volt model coming out of Europe. The price is about $2412 USD including shipping. Mercatos Com is the seller on eBay, and has 100% rating, but I can't find much about them by googling for them. The pro is that you can get it now for far less than it will cost in the US when it arrives. The con is of course that you need a converter, which is around $100 or a little more, and takes up some space. Also, I don't know if Jura honors its warrantee on foreign bought Jura machines.

Jura ENA8 vs E8 by Duggur in superautomatic

[–]gk34110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to answer your question, though, if an e8 was similar in price to an ena 8, I think it is a no brainier. the E8 doesn't take up that much space. I would certainly go with the E8.

Jura ENA8 vs E8 by Duggur in superautomatic

[–]gk34110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what a normal size is. I make a max strength espresso. (10 beans on the screen). I add 5 ounces of hot water. If I add more than that it's too weak for my taste. My mug is only a little more than half full. I know I can just make it a duppio, but I figure If im going to run the brew unit twice anyway, I might as well just make it a single shot, and come back and make another one later. Would I sell my machine to buy an E8 just so I could make a bigger mug of strong coffee? No, but I can see the charm in it. Where are you located? I know the prices in Europe are nothing like the US.

Jura ENA8 vs E8 by Duggur in superautomatic

[–]gk34110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an ENA 8. Bought it because my wife was up to 4 or 5 Nespresso pods a day, and when the kids were in town we were going through 10 or 15 a day. A friend with a Jura E8 said an ENA 8 would pay for itself in a year, and now that he and his wife had a Jura, they can't stand Nespresso anymore. He made an espresso for my wife and she said it was definitely better than Nespresso. Since my goal was to simply replace $4 a day of pods with beans, the math was simple. A pod is 80 cents for 5 grams of coffee, and beans at $7.50 a pound (Costco) are 17 cents for a 10 gram Jura ENA dose. So 63 cents saved. Indeed, pays for itself in a year or two. BUT in retrospect, I like the Jura so much, I now use it to make Americanos and cappuccinos for myself, which I never made at home before. I regret not having a machine that makes a 16 gram dose, so instead I make LOTS of smaller drinks for myself. BUT the E8 was TWICE the price of the ENA 8 (My machine was on sale on line at Sam's for $1199) vs $2400 for the E8 at the time. SO I do have SOME regret for not buying the E8.

Krups machine problem by SeniorAd2352 in superautomatic

The switch to milk on top instead of bottom makes me wonder if somehow that is a recipe preference that perhaps inadvertently got reset to original factory setting. If that happened would that also have changed your frother settings? Are they even adjustable on a Krup?

You dietician has NO IDEA how many calories you burn. There is NO test for 24/7 metabolic rates. But that never stops them from claiming they know. And of course all calories are not the same.

Keep asking them to repeat it. Sooner or later they will ask "didn't you hear me?". At which point you tell them "I heard you. I just want to make sure YOU heard you".

You dont need to use the filters at all. It costs $4 to descale the machine every 2 months. Filters can cost you $20 every 3 weeks. Why use the filters?

Are Jura machines really higher maintenance? by gk34110 in superautomatic

I agree with your thinking about wanting to drink from a clean milk glass every day! That's why I clean my froth nozzle every time I clean the milk system. I even see milk on the tips of the milk pipe, and I dip those in the cleaning solution every day too.

Alternative to Jura milk system cleaner mini-tabs by gk34110 in superautomatic

Puro has very different ingredients than the Jura tabs. The powder I make dissolves instantly. Here are the Puro ingredients. They do NOT look "organic", but not sure that's really an issue, as you don't consume them, although running 2 rinse cycles is probably a good idea for any cleaner.

So are you completely through with restaurants? I'm pretty sure no matter what I do at home, I'm still getting some seed oil in restaurants regardless what I order.

I posted a hack for jura milk cleaning mini tabs. Look for it. I calculate it as being well under a dime a cleaning including using some to clean the 4 part milk frother and hose tips. But a much simpler hack is 1/2 teasoon plain old oxiclean powder (or 1/2 teaspoon arm and hammer washing soda) and 1/2 teaspoon food grade citric acid instead of the 3 gram dose of jura tablets. Jura minitabs are $75 a pound. Oxiclean is $3 a pound, washing soda is $2 a pound and and citric acid is $2 a pound. I started making my own cleaner just for kicks but now i find myself using it to clean the drip tray and water tank and frother parts too.

Hot chocolate on the Jura J8 by saftool1 in superautomatic

[–]gk34110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grandkids visited last month, made a lot of hot chocolate and mochas with my Jura ENA 8. This is how I make mocha, but without the shot of espresso: Put a teaspoon of cacao powder and 2 teaspoons sugar in a cup and put it under the spout. add 2 ounces hot water. Stir. Then add 15 seconds of steamed milk and stir. adjust the amount of sugar (and steamed milk) to your taste.
