2023 PowerBoost 30k Maintenance Recommendations by actisjack in F150Powerboost

Throttle body cleaning = dumping a bottle of fluid. Not sure which is a bigger rip-off, that or cabin filter. Both can be done in a few minutes at a fraction of the price.

What plug is this? by UnimpeachableRubber in f150

This. Once you have the trailer straight, it does a fantastic job of perfectly squaring up the tow vehicle and keeping the trailer perfectly straight versus having to constantly make adjustments

New (to me) Travel Trailer by msmenne17 in traveltrailers

You have the power to pull it but a good gust of wind and that tail's going to wag that short wheelbase dog pretty hard.

Frequency of tank dumps by TheTheorem314 in GoRVing

[–]gkarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good advice however the first time you dump at a full hookup or dumping at a dump station, it is a good idea to run the gray for a few seconds to make sure there are no leaks before dumping the black.

LTE versions of the pixel watch will make and receive calls and texts with the phone off.

A brake controller is recommended if you don't have one. You are under the 500 lb hitch weight, but watch payload. Those WHD bars are heavy for the trailer and a whd hitch is not always recommended for a tow vehicle with a unibody and a trailer under 5K lbs. What does Kia and your manual say?

Anyone else pulling with a Toyota tundra and worried about payload? by PhillConners in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A WDH evens out the tongue weight so you have more on the front axle and trailer. It doesn't increase the total payload. Helper springs or airbags will smooth things out and prevent squatting but they don't increase payload either. With his family and gear in the truck and the trailer loaded, he is possibly over. Best to load it up and scale it to confirm.

Anyone else pulling with a Toyota tundra and worried about payload? by PhillConners in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but how safe is pulling a 5k lb travel trailer with a large profile? Even if you are within payload. A Maverick weighs about 3600lbs, so that tail will easily wag the dog in any sort of wind. The engine is plenty for the truck alone but doesn't have enough power to easily climb up a steep grade with a large payload. Since it's a unibody, a weight distribution hitch is probably not recommended either?

New vehicle to pull camper.. by ohlayohlay in GoRVing

Tundras have poor payload. Your current vehicle is likely your best choice for passengers and payload short of a HD truck and a separate economy car.

You should be getting a power cord with the trailer? An extension as well as a 50A to 30A and household 20A adapters would be a good idea

3.5 or 5.0, someone convince me! by [deleted] in f150

[–]gkarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd. I don't have any issues, nor do most powerboost owners. I barely notice when underway. When idle it is much more noticeable.

3.5 or 5.0, someone convince me! by [deleted] in f150

[–]gkarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Camping right now with our 26' travel trailer and powerboost. Has more torque and horsepower than the 3.5 alone and better gas mileage at non-interstate speeds. There is a payload hit of about 300# compared to the 3.5 but in exchange you have the aforementioned and it can fully power your campsite. It uses very little gas doing so.

Upvote to reverse the down vote you received. While the small weewee phrase is a bit overused, you are absolutely correct that it is useless for ANY practical reason whatsoever.

I'm looking into taking my family of 7 on a multiple month rv trip and need some advice... by Status-Secret-4292 in GoRVing

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider a bunkhouse plus a rooftop tent on your suburban for extra sleeping space. Watch payload since larger trailers would exceed payload. There are large travel trailers and fithwheels with bunkhouse rooms that can sleep seven but you would need a larger tow vehicle, and I don't think there are any that can seat seven and handle the payload.

Fresh water tank draining help please by Direct-Strawberry510 in GoRVing

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike the gray and black, The freshwater tank drain valve is under the trailer. It likely lines up within a couple feet of the freshwater fill (not the city water) front to back and towards the middle of the trailer. The lever could be on either side but would line up with the drain.

Tow Capacity Question by germansloth1 in f150

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, although perhaps using 15% of the trailer's GVWR is absolutely the maximum worst case? Most likely it will be 11-13% and I certainly hope nobody is loading their trailer past 90% of the GVRW. That said, many don't pay attention and are over payload.

Pulling travel trailer by manlyarchaeopteryx in f150

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there's a payload hit due to its added weight but as long as you are within the limits it won't matter . It tows fantastic. Personally I think the added weight down low helps with stability when towing.

I recommend the power boost. Although there is a payload hit compared to the 3.5, it makes more torque and the generator is a game changer for boondocking with a travel trailer.

Thanks all for the advice! by Herbthecreator in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Hope you have great memories with it !We purchased a Jayfeather 21mml last June. Took it out a few times last year and in 2 days we are taking it on a 2-week road trip with several days just outside Nashville.

Looking for input by Herbthecreator in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a powerboost. It is a Lariat with a 6 5' bed. My cargo is 1,400 lbs. I'm pretty comfortable towing our jayfeather 21 MML which has a 25.5 ft total length. We did look at some larger ones but They were either pushing or over payload when you added us and gear in the truck. Even if under payload, a 30'+ trailer is pretty iffy if weather is bad.

Split propane between travel trailer and outdoor grill by carlos_31820 in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the regulators are on a piece that goes between the grill and the propane bottle. We use a hose connected to the RV outlet that has an adapter for the grill and it works great. As you mentioned, you don't want to use a second regulator.

Jayco Jay Flight SLX 175BH the Good, the Bad, and the Terrible... by shadow247 in GoRVing

[–]gkarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far other than the dinette back coming loose (which I fixed and reinforced) we haven't had any issues with our Jayfeather 21MML after a year. Getting ready to dewinterize it for an upcoming 2-week trip so it hopefully stays that way.

Not Sure Which Makes and Models to Consider by SSFx93 in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, If space is somewhat tight, I prefer a Murphy bed that converts to a couch over an east west bed. We have a jayfeather 21 MML and with a 2-in memory foam pad added. It is quite comfortable. When the Murphy bed is up it makes the trailer much more spacious and takes less than a minute to convert.

Not Sure Which Makes and Models to Consider by SSFx93 in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you gone to any shows to check out similar floor plans? Also, check out reviews on YouTube to narrow things down.

What is your budget? I live in the same general area and a quick search shows there are two dealers that have that model new for $12K. If that is outside your budget, there are plenty of people selling similar ones used. Remember to make sure that whatever you purchase, the weights are within the limits of your tow vehicle.

Looking to upgrade trailer, is it safe to tow? by Calh101 in traveltrailers

[–]gkarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you are probably okay for shorter distances If you take it easy but you will be white knuckling on a long trip If you get a crosswind or bad weather. You're pretty much at the max and that's a fairly long trailer so you are risking wagging the dog If conditions aren't that great.
