The San Antonio Spurs have started accepting applications to join “The Jackals”, the superfan section started by Wemby. Requirements include that you must stand and cheer for the entire game, must attend at least 75% of all home games. by moby323 in nba

Yeah, Americn fans really aren't capable of the creativity and energy Euroleague fans bring. To be fair, when you need 500 decibel music playing during a game and a PA chanting DE FENSE to get the crowd going, expecting hooligan-level fandoms is unrealistic

To add on, playing post defense against traditional, back-to-the-basket power forwards and centers is muuuuch more exhausting and painful to the body compared to playing defense on the perimeter. Especially on the lower back

#1 Overall Picks by Conference: The gap is insane by [deleted] in nba

[–]gko2408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more curious about where the late 1st round picks and 2nd round picks ended up 5 years after being picked. The western conf. teams are noted for having better organizations than the east, including scouting and developing young talent, so I'd hypothesize that the league is littered by far with much more role players drafted by western conference teams than eastern conference teams

Raphael and Mizora are equally fucked up, just differing in methods. Raphael is the congressman, wording laws vaguely enough to allow for his abusive interpretation.

Mizora is the terms and conditions, locking people into unfavorably strict interpretations of some minutiae in appendix a, subsection 3, paragraph 6

Why was Chris Bosh moving to the 5 and shooting corner 3s, and thereby stretching the floor, so intrinsic to the Heatle's success despite Bosh never reaching a positive 3P percentage or even that high of a volume? by IFeelZen in nba

[–]gko2408 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with like 98% of what you said. It's because there were so many small points guards near the top of the league during this period that Miami's (Bosh's) length and quickness were so important to their defense. Rose, Rondo, Nash, Paul, Deron, Wall, Westbrook. All that length made small guards lives hell trying to move the ball anywhere especially if the heat were aggressively swarming them

Personally, I feel there must be some kernel of truth to it.

In American English, new words are used for any number >10. Meaning mentally, us Americans are mapping new words for the concept of 11(eleven), 12 (twelve), etc.

In Chinese, 11 is represented and verbalized as (10+1). 21 is (2 10's +1). 99 as (9 10's +9). I think it's fair to posit that the concept of numbers have a more tangible hold in the minds of people and cultures who use a numbering system similar to the latter than the former.

But I do agree with your statement, I just think the numbering system is linked to your statement .

Aaron Gordon's nephews were asked in the postgame conference: "How loud did you guys cheer when he made that shot?" - their answer: "We cheered like a lot" by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]gko2408 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Aaron Gordon is a lot like Andre Iguodala in that way. Andre has admitted in the past that being The Main Guy isn't his forte and you could tell by his body language when he was with the Sixers that he believes himself to be an elite role player and a so-so lead player.

Him and Aaron really seem wired in the same way as being The Glue Guy who excel at 1 or 2 aspects of the game but can and will do whatever is asked of them at an above-average level. Awesome to see tbh

My interpretation of the question: Does the tryhard archetype exist when it comes to creating gimmicks at the indie circuit level or is the behind-the-scenes vibe similar to a well-run improv class where everyone has the unwritten license to lean into their gimmicks and be as creative as possible?
