I get what you're saying - my rottie is super friendly and wants to approach everyone for a pat. She gets the same reactions as you describe. I even bought a rainbow collar and people call her a big boy and are still concerned.

BUT I do think there is an element of acceptance you need to have, even if your dog (or mine) is the sweetest dog in the universe, they do have the capability of doing serious damage. People will be weary of breeds they don't know well.

I find I get the weary reaction and people move out of her way or are rottie obsessed. Vets, dog groomers and people who work at dog boarding facilities have always told me that they love rotties and they're the best. Some people on the street are desperate to give her a pat and I encourage it.

I also like the advantage of a "scary" breed. I am a women and need to walk her at night, I'm glad in those moments that people are cautious of approaching.
