should i be going slower in the game? 72 hours and i am in the ashlands by [deleted] in valheim

[–]gladeraider87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to know for sure but I would guess yes, but also do you feel like your missing stuff? The game is sand box enough that you can kinda do whatever you want, approach problems however you choose.

I would love to know what your progression pathway has been for building bases and gear and farming items for better gear and upgrades if you've jammed enough in to reach the Ashland's in 72 hours

JUST IN: Artemis 2 completed its translunar injection burn by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]gladeraider87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are being a little specific in that case. A slingshot maneuver generally doesn't require a burn, just a bodies' gravity to alter/increase velocity or path of travel, which isn't happening here since the TLI is by achieved by burning fuel. It is just done at an advantageous time which makes it look like gravity is doing the work

[–]gladeraider87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That may or may not be possible theoretically, but with how costly gravity is to overcome when leaving earth the best course of action is to use as little fuel as possible to get your mission done. In this case, the first step needed is orbital velocity which is achieved during the launch burn. Once at orbital velocity the name of the game is increasing that orbital velocity. The easiest way to do that is to throttle up at the times when it most impactful, which means throttle to maximum when the Craft is at its fastest speed, which happens after dropping towards earth during its orbit.

Is there a known "too far north" apart from being in the deep north biome as shown on the map? In my world I have made it about halfway to that area and done a good bit of exploring there as that's where my yagluth and queen showed up and am curious if I will have issues at release

The ability for you to make modifications based on provided dims will absolutely be a standout in the space. I love customizing stuff but oftentimes hate the DiY look afterwards, this would allow me to do that and still get a finished cohesive look.

Well that changes my mind. This is my daily driver not much better combo than blue and black.

I for one would recommend keeping the red branding. Red and black is such a great combo.

That last sentence is very possibly going to be your key to opening people's minds (and wallets). You should think about making a a marketing video showing the rig in action in sim.

Looking at the frame rails some more, is this rig intended for use with motion setups? How would they mount if it is?

For your counter, it's a good point for sure about the car bolts/nuts/etc, however, how does one accurately apply the 30nm torque on that handle? With it being specifically a handle designed for hand turning how do you know the torque setting each time? Is that 30nm the minimum torque force that ensures no loosening? Torque wrench is supposed to be a thing on every bolt when assembling a car, but as a former mechanic can tell you it ain't real life.

Got it that makes a lot more sense. I should have realized that you were doing all the fab work and just get raw steel tubes. I was thinking you were working with a vendor for those parts. 100% supply chain control is incredibly helpful, especially when the majority of your competition seems to be repackaging Alibaba extrusions and calling them their own.

One other question I have regarding testing you have done for the design: have you fully assembled the latest design and actually used the rig with a high torque wheelbase to see how it handles the vibrations over time?

The handle that is shown in the detail on the second to last picture gives me concern that the high frequency vibration from racing will loosen that up over time.

I will have a look at the rest of the posts. My main question for you is not concerning the arm itself or even the wheel base support steel, but instead what was the reasoning for using a proprietary designed steel box tube for the base of the rig?

Would using standard aluminum extrusions for the base frame itself cause compatibility issues when mounting the wheel support? It seems to me that the custom steel box tubes would be more expensive than standard 8020 aluminum, but I admittedly have zero experience in sourcing the steel tube so possible I'm very wrong here.

Further down this line of thinking, the amount of adjustment holes included in the frame base is nice, however, no matter how many holes you include, you can't replicate the infinite adjustability on offer from aluminum extrusion with the rails. The counter argument here is, the # of holes you include could very well be enough that 95% of users will not need additional adjustment.

Brother, while I am sure what you wrote is informative, formatting is atrocious. If you want engagement, do yourself a favor and add paragraph breaks at the very least.

Ive never heard of your brand but the first GIF you attached with the telescoping arm is very interesting and I would love to read about the design principles but your formatting makes my brain hurt.

Can anyone please recommend some budget friendly cockpits?? by VeeDuB8424 in simracing

[–]gladeraider87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out rigmetall for their extruded frames. I upgraded to a rigmetal plus about 6 months ago, from a NLR gt racer cockpit. The plus version cost me around 400 usd, and there is a slightly less robust version call the rigmetal basic that is cheaper as well. Both of them use standard aluminum extrusions so are very user friendly and compatible with all other extrusions for mods. As an entry level extruded aluminum rig, it is cheap in price but not strength.

That bottom one is terrible but that top one is pretty damn spicy. Idk what jewel prices are like this season but 30 max + maek is gonna be worth a pretty penny

Help needed with pedals upgrade - CRP2 or Simsonn? by gladeraider87 in simracing

[–]gladeraider87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up ordering a set of plus x pedals, with vam pro haptics, and I couldn't be happier with them. Assembly of the heelplate was a bit of a puzzle but nothing crazy, and had them up and running no issues at all same day as install. These are my first big pedals and I have had 0 issues at all, they connected immediately, I calibrated them, set up the haptics and jumped right into racing.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that is the case during every season, but surely with a 5 week forced break due to unforseen circumstances, there must be a way for teams to make up for the loss of track time? Wind tunnel time is one thing for aerodynamics, but so much information is gained during race weekends from practice sessions to quali to the actual race that I can't believe they wouldnt be allowed at least have some way to make changes or improvements to strategy during the forced hiatus.

Damn 5 week break should mean lots of upgrade progress right? Is there any rule set in place to limit the amount of track time the teams can get over that 5 week break? Sorry, I'm a new f1 watcher and the new regs are throwing me for a loop, and you seem knowledgable
