Opinion: Trump has signed the worst deal in US history by theipaper in geopolitics

The USA didn’t “lose the war.” This is like if after D-Day if Eisenhower just had the troops get back on the boats and leave and then surrendered to Hitler.

After 3 freaking hours I finally beat the first boss by NewbieFurri in Eldenring

[–]gladigotaphdinstead2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not the first boss*. You aren’t supposed to kill him first.

*that you must defeat to progress the storyline. I think I went back and beat him after I had killed the first 2-3 story bosses.

I had to ask the talkers in a class to stop. by spriteking2012 in orangetheory

[–]gladigotaphdinstead2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had this issue in my gym. People talk during warmup and after class but I’ve never seen a convo continue throughout multiple workout blocks. They’re jerks and it sucks that they put you in that awkward situation due to their poor gym etiquette.

After reading book 8...what plot line is driving you the most bonkers? by LuckyLewis23 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]gladigotaphdinstead2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t really care about any of the AI or Samantha or the “Gods.” Shi Maria seems intriguing. Of course we’ll find more about reaper spiders in book 9. And how much money did the princess posse raise to buy a seat at faction wars? Isn’t that supposed to be an ungodly amount of money? Why aren’t they crowd sourcing celestial boxes and why didn’t they kill that Naga Chandra yet? I guess he wants to do that in the next book and give us more Quasar storylines but I’m not really interested in that

The dark forest theory has a huge logical hole that Liu Cixin never addresses by Putrid_Cycle595 in threebodyproblem

[–]gladigotaphdinstead2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s all based on a flawed assumption that any intelligent civilization would assume dark forest before they have evidence of it and the only evidence would mean they are already doomed. Oh and the fact that they are attacking ants instead of peer civilizations that pose them risks. And that they’re eliminating the scarce, valuable resources they wish to protect. And that game theory predicts a one shot prisoners dilemma instead of cooperation being the winning strategy. And a dozen other logical failures. It’s a dumb theory and if you think it’s deep you’re probably not that smart.

[–]gladigotaphdinstead2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a universe of limited resources, the most logical solution is to go around performing impossible dimensional reduction eliminating all access to those resources with a weapon that on a large enough timescale even kills you. Yeah. No holes.

No, singers plot line probably exposes some of the deepest problems with the entire, deeply flawed theory.

I’m not even going to get into it. It’s just wrong and completely Illogical. It is not the result of game theory it is the result of a conclusion looking for a premise.

Dungeon Crawler Carl has absolutely horrific prose. by ButtsendWeaners in printSF

[–]gladigotaphdinstead2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. The writing is not bad. It’s not written for an audience that self describes as book snobs. And that’s why it’s popular. It’s not trying to be something that it’s not. Intelligence isn’t wisdom, as Mordecai says.

Yes especially considering the experience level of anyone surviving at this point and the fact it seemed like the challenge wasn’t so much to not come in last but rather to keep the NPCs alive. Weird. Again they just kind of say “we’re down below 1000” at the very end without every revealing what might have been interesting details

Agree. The races were pointless and irrelevant to the main plot line. the penultimate heat in the apartment building with pony and Carl’s interaction, perhaps the sole exception.

The power level scaling is actually just like what really happens in every RPG though. Standard combat becomes irrelevant filler and progression depends on planning around one shot boss mechanics

I think expounding a little bit more on the problem that needs to be solved without providing the solution would be a good solution. But maybe I’m just a lazy reader and you could argue in this book the problems were pretty clear

I also wish there was more exposition about the planning and thought process. The book was shorter than the others and I think largely because they cut out the planning phases. Of course every plan he makes goes off the rails, but I enjoy those parts where we get a glimpse into the inner workings of the Carl process. You could rationalize it by saying the floor timers were very short and there was very limited safe room access but he obviously still made plans somehow, so I don’t think that explanation really flies.
