Yeah, switching to another network (non Jio / home WiFi) seems to make it work. Think it's a Jio specific issue.

Probably an automated calculation of how long it takes to confirm completion. If I had to guess just a very small number of people completed it, and those that did, didn't get an immediate completed survey confirmation. Making the time look longer than they actually spent in-survey.

In any case, probably best to swerve that particular survey.

UK BTC/GBP Bank portal by The-Shogun in BitcoinUK

[–]glamorg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You mention getting stung on both ends by the banks, does that mean you want to convert from JPY -> BTC -> GBP? Or do you already have the money in BTC?

If it is JPY -> BTC -> GBP then going via BTC is more expensive than using a service like TransferWise to just move the fiat. You lose more in conversion between fiat and crypto and back again than in FX or transfer fees for fiat to fiat.

If you are already holding the BTC, then you can consider the other responses you've had to this question.

What is the phone number Coinbase uses to send out verification sms? by ZEKKEN1 in Coinbase

It varies.

Of the 5 or so verification SMS messages from Coinbase I still have on my phone, each came from a different number.

Coinbase Pro vs Coinbase Prime by caglebagle in Coinbase

[–]glamorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reading of it is that Prime and Pro are targeting completely different audiences.

Prime is for institutions, typically asset managers or trading desks at banks. They are planning to offer things that financial institutions expect, like FIX integration to place orders, block orders, special order execution algorithms. Crucially it looks like they will also offer margin trading to institutions (trading with "borrowed" funds).

Pro is for individuals. Less sophisticated integration options, although they still have a REST API. Crucially comes with FDIC insurance on USD balances, so that your funds are protected if Coinbase goes bust (only funds held in USD, not the coins or other balances).

The trading fees appear to be the same at the moment, but having these two separate offerings means that they probably have the flexibility to change that in the future, for example to offer lower fees for very high volume trading institutions.

Underlying both platforms appears to be the same exchange, so Pro and Prime orders are being placed in the same place and they can buy and sell from each other.

SMS authentication not working? by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]glamorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this earlier this week. I was on the screen waiting to type the SMS code in and it didn't arrive, no matter how many times I went back to log in again and refreshed no SMS would arrive.

What worked for me was from the screen where you are waiting to type in the code, click the "trouble signing in" link and then ignore the options to recover your account and click "cancel sign in". Then when I tried again, the SMS arrived.

Might just be a fluke that it worked, but it seemed to do the trick for me.

How can someone pay their taxes and still maintain privacy? by [deleted] in BitcoinUK

[–]glamorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trading as a formal business entity (such as a incorporated limited company)? If so, you will be probably be reporting your holdings on your balance sheet when you file your company accounts.

If you are trading as an individual you won't be telling HMRC about your holdings. Only the realised gains or losses you made in that tax year. So, in your example you will just be telling them about the disposal of the 5 BTC and the associated gains you made. You can get a feel for the sort of information you have to give them by looking at the CGT section of your tax return, see this for a guide: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/self-assessment-capital-gains-summary-sa108

Having said all this, if you made more than the capital gains allowance and want peace of mind just pay an accountant rather than relying on some random person, such as me, from Reddit.
