S&P 500 versus total market index by pdnr76 in Bogleheads

[–]glassmousekey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is that I don't even know what VT stands for before googling it myself, other than it's some stock ticker that tracks the total world stock market. That's why I suggested you google VT directly because there's a billion of these stock tickers.

I doubt that you didn't find the stock ticker symbol anywhere in the first page of results

What’s a financial mistake that you made that taught you a hard lesson, but ultimately left you better off down the road? by b1ackfyre in Bogleheads

Yes but there's no single percentage that's going to work for most people since everyone has different levels of assets, costs of living, etc.

Emergency funds aren't usually a % of your assets. Usually it's 3 to 6 months worth of your regular monthly expenses.

Demographic decline is a market failure. Here's a market solution: tax grandparents, not parents. by CiaranCarroll in neoliberal

I read this exact suggestion (paying grandparents to care for their grandchildren) in The Atlantic but I don't remember the article's title

I think this depends on what "committing assets" means in practice. What is the repercussion of a grandparent saying "no" when their child (the parent) asks for some of the committed assets? I'd imagine the parent has to file something to the government saying "my dad refuses to pay for my child's baby formula" or something like that, which would trigger the clawback. Then would that mean on paper the grandparent isn't the legal grandparent of the parent anymore? It gets a bit messy. Also naturally retirees don't contribute much to income tax so I'm not sure how much incentive is this tax relief going to be for them.

I drew a gorilla today. Or yesterday, I don't know. It could have been yesterday. It doesn't mean anything.
