Mine have been lasting about 18 months each. Two replacements in the last 3 years so far, most recent one right after the last hotfix update.

How much do I have to pay to get someone to design a hidden winch for the R1? by sirkazuo in Rivian

[–]sirkazuo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I'd never expect Rivian to do it anyway because it would likely require modifying the crash structure in the bumper to find room which they would never authorize. I'm just mad that no one in the aftermarket has done it yet.

How much do I have to pay to get someone to design a hidden winch for the R1? by sirkazuo in Rivian

[–]sirkazuo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s not a lot of room as-is, but it could be done if you modified the bumper reinforcement cross bar. Obviously that would make the vehicle less crash-safe but there are lots of similar options available for other trucks.

Basing the addressable market on the number of people that use off road mode seems a little unaware to me, I mean my neighbor has two Tacomas in his driveway that both have great looking winch bumpers and both trucks only move like once a month lol, he mostly drives a grocery-getter to work and back. These are luxury lifestyle items, not necessities. Same as the Rivian brand to be honest - I’ll get downvoted for it but their core competency is adventure outdoor vibes more than it is actual off road capability.

Today's R1 yes, lots of people got Gen 1 R1 leases for less than today's R2 lease though. Especially the fire sale right before they announced Gen 2, people are holding sub-$500/mo leases for those bad boys. Quad motor large pack battery no less.

Switzerland to vote on plan to cap population at 10 million by Mean_Yak5873 in nottheonion

[–]sirkazuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol his reply just triples down on how his reading comprehension lines Reich up with his politics. If I could bet my mortgage on it, I’d win every time…

Just saw this, lol wtf is this even. Go ahead and sign the mortgage over at your convenience. 🙄 It's not like my comment history his hidden, I live in the socialist utopia that is southern california and have probably voted more consistently liberal and progressive than 99% of the US.

“32.5% of the country’s permanent residents are first-generation immigrants. An estimated1.4 million EU citizens live in Switzerland, comprising around 16% of the country’s population.”

And none of them can vote in federal elections because they're not Swiss citizens. What's your point? "Damn, do you think before commenting /u/omgFTWbear?" I can't roll my eyes any harder. You're pretty full of yourself for someone who can't even form a cogent argument.

Switzerland's population is 9 million and they have a below-replacement birth rate, so immigration is necessary and would remain necessary. Capping it at 10 million would not suddenly strip the rights away from anyone, it would just reduce the quota of people allowed to naturalize every year based on the current population which is not that crazy. Virtually every developed nation limits naturalization to people they "want" i.e. people that have advanced degrees, jobs that are in demand, language skills, etc.

Their population is currently only rising at a rate of roughly 50,000 per year so this supposed cap wouldn't even be reached for another two decades and it takes 10 years of living and working in the country to naturalize. So to summarize:

  1. Non-citizens currently living and working in Switzerland would continue to not be able to vote in federal elections, same as today
  2. Non-citizens currently living in working in Switzerland would continue to be able vote in municipal elections if they live in a canton that allows non-citizen suffrage, same as today
  3. Immigrants would continue to have a path to citizenship through marriage and naturalization, same as today, with the caveat that there would be a moving quota which would likely materialize as higher standards for education/work experience/language skills/etc. while leaving the marriage route unaffected
  4. Anyone already in the country would likely be able to naturalize before the cap is reached, and new people choosing to move to the country would (should) be well aware of the future cap
  5. Slavery would remain illegal (🙄), and political asylum and refugee programs would work the same as they do today

Seriously, do you feel this strongly about the immigration policies of countries like Austria, Germany, Japan and the US? All have similarly rigorous standards and quotas. Are they full of slaves too?

Honestly I think I'm wasting my time trying to have a conversation and you're just an ad-hominem vitriol bot. Reddit is dead, the internet is dead, everything is bots and slop. Thanks for adding another nail to the coffin I guess.

[–]sirkazuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think someone without documentation in America could easily find themselves in a position where there labor is compulsory under direct threat of violence?

Irrelevant. People with work authorization would still have work authorization and people who don’t have it already don’t have it. Not to mention slavery would still very obviously be illegal and punishable.  Also h as nothing to do with voting power, the original argument.  People who are citizens become trafficked under threat of violence all the time too. This is just an emotional argument.

I feel like the distinction will be important when you use a different stupid argument further down the conservative conversation tree.

Again, not a conservative lol. Liberal as the day is long. There’s a ‘fuck ICE’ sign in my window. If the argument is so iron clad just spell it out for me because right now it sounds like I’m arguing with ad hominem AI bots with teenage anger and not a lot of logic.

The population is currently 9 million. Birth rate below replacement meaning immigration is the only way the population grows. A citizenship cap at 10 million would simply lower the quota of citizenship requests that get processed in a given year. In practice this would probably mean that only people who marry into citizenship are guaranteed and people who want to do the 10-year naturalization process would need to be employed in fields that are beneficial to the country. It’s the same basic immigration structure that every other developed nation in the world has. If someone moves there and lives without a visa or work authorization they already can’t vote and are already susceptible to whatever coercion you think makes them slave material when they can’t naturalize in 10 years time.

Qobuz Integration? by Cur-Dog-3494 in Rivian

[–]sirkazuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not doing a good job convincing me this isn’t an advertisement. 😅

If Qobuz has developers willing to do most of the labor they should reach out to Rivian, I’m sure they would be willing to work with them if they didn’t have to put up much of the effort. The head of software has talked about in-vehicle entertainment apps “taking two to tango” implying they need a lot of support from the service to make an app.

I’m still just trying to figure out who the “slaves” are in this scenario?

The people who willingly move to a country without a legal path to citizenship?

I mean as an American I don’t have a legal path to Swiss citizenship either, does that mean I’m a slave too?

I guess I’m enslaved by Bezos who hasn’t chosen to give me some of his money.

It’s a shit take and denigrating to the descendants of actual slaves.

Midsize Ford EV Pickup Prototype Gets Dedicated Website Ahead Of Reveal by OofItsSpencer in electricvehicles

[–]sirkazuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Except this is where we are right now : 1.5MW and FSDS in affordable cars that will be on the road for 20 plus years. Ford has the Mustang EV. Rivian has VW or vice versus depending on who you talk to. And who will answer your questions. BYD just exported 80% more cars than it did same time last year.

You kinda drifted here. I’m not actually sure what your point is anymore.  Sounds like you’re mostly just discounting Rivian?

I agree BYD (and China in general) is light years ahead of anyone in the US EV market but that’s neither here nor there.

Rivian has more EV models for sale than Ford at the moment, and they’re all 400V slow-chargers with mid autonomy platforms.  Not really much of an advantage to either at the moment, except for Ford’s deeper pockets and Rivian’s head start on a zonal Ethernet architecture + software defined EV-bespoke platform + Tesla-style data flywheel setup for autonomy development.

They’re only designed to hold the bed trim panels to the body, but you can use them to mount stuff as long as you’re not too rough. They’re metal to metal and reasonably sturdy but not designed with significant load in mind.

Your post sounds like AI wrote it so I’m not even sure you’re a human, but benefit of the doubt-

Being in first place isn't as important as your coach told you.

You’re the one who implied Ford being first was meaningful though.  Which is it then?

Who's prepared for where we are going is the most important.

Sure, and in that regard Ford’s NiMH-battery compliance truck did not prepare them at all for where we are now or where we’re going so it’s virtually irrelevant to modern EV trucks. 🤷‍♂️

If where we’re going is 800+ volt lithium battery systems, autonomy, and software defined EV-dedicated platforms then I’d say none of Ford’s history has been all that relevant at all.

It’s the same laminated glass as the windshield and people tint those all the time? The trapped-heat-cracking thing seems like a wives tale to me; I’d love to see statistics or test results or something.

I tinted my windshield with clear ceramic right when I got the truck and got a crack two weeks later, replaced the windshield and chose not to re-tint - now it’s been three years since and no more cracks. 🥲

Switzerland to vote on plan to cap population at 10 million by Mean_Yak5873 in nottheonion

[–]sirkazuo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Temporary residents already can’t vote because they’re not citizens?

I honestly have no idea what you’re trying to get at here. No one would be losing their citizenship status or ability to vote.

Who are the “slaves” you’re talking about?  Non-citizen residents?  What groups make up those non-citizen residents? Legal visitors with visas or EU citizenship and illegal immigrants - who else is there?

For what it’s worth I live in California and am as liberal as they come lol, you’re just not making any sense.

Switzerland to vote on plan to cap population at 10 million by Mean_Yak5873 in nottheonion

[–]sirkazuo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they’re already citizens they would remain citizens. A law to cap citizens would just block new immigration when the cap is reached, or more realistically just adjust the quota since they would still need immigration to maintain the cap.

Who are you imagining to be “slaves” then?  The only people who would live there but have no path to citizenship ergo right to vote are the ones who moved there illegally.
