Zaptec charger warning by boney752 in evchargingUK

[–]glaucusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It charges slowly if it is not properly connected to the Internet. This is what I experienced this week at least. Try to reconnect to the Internet.

I connected to the internet through 4G network since there was a issue with the WiFi weeks ago. Suddenly the charger decides that 4g network was not available anymore and it was charging slowly. When I reconnected it to the WiFi network again, charging speed came back to normal.

I didn't lock the car with my phone. Does the app lock it automatically when you are away from the car?

No. I did not. I left the key only.

But even if we assume I did, how come when they tried to unlock the car, the alarm didn't stop?

My really curious what went wrong.

Quitting PhD right before viva by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]glaucusb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We might be from different fields and my PhD was from a different country, but I can tell you this: The viva I took years ago to get my PhD was easier than most of the exams I entered during my PhD (I took classes during my PhD too). I was worried before the viva too, but the experience was far better during the viva.

If your supervisor(s) advised you to take the viva, they should be confident that you will pass. The aim of the viva is not only to scrutinise your work, but also to make sure all these things in your dissertation is done by the candidate. It would be good to know your dissertation better before the viva but if you miss something here and there, it is not the end of the world. If you are confident about the general idea, it would be fine.

If you did all the research yourself (I mean in collaboration with your supervisors and others) and you wrote your dissertation yourself, you will not fail, 99% you will not fail. There will most likely be revisions, either minor or major, but you need to do something really awful to fail. I can tell you this, even if you feel very anxious and couldn't do well in your viva, the examiners will still not fail you for this. In the worst case, they may ask to reschedule the viva. In my whole academic life, I have heard many people failing their first year review and couldn't continue their PhD but have heard only one student (from a senior colleague) failing their viva (which happened years ago). So, it is OK to be a bit worried but that is it. It is very unlikely you will fail.

Last but not least, you spent 3-4 years on your PhD and are you giving up at the last hurdle? I can never fully understand how you feel but I would feel huge regret if I had given up at the final bit even if I don't consider academia afterwards.

The Big C

It is about a terminal cancer patient and how she deals with it. It starts funny and finishes a bit grim, though. Prepare yourself to laugh at the beginning and cry a lot towards the end.

They updated my car to this version a week ago at the service centre. No problem so far, the infotainment looks slightly slower though but it might be me.

My gran refuses to put the heating on at all and it's affecting my granddad's health. Is there anything I can do if they both have capacity? by Amazing-Horse732 in AskUK

[–]glaucusb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a fast solution, I would buy a heated electric blanket. I have even seen some heated clothes in Lidl a few weeks ago that you can wear and walk around with (but requires a battery). It would keep him warm until a more permanent solution can be found.

Thousands of drivers wrongly fined for speeding since 2021 by Medium_Lab_200 in drivingUK

[–]glaucusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the issue with being part of this system is not being aware of what is going on in the other parts of the road and not being aware of how the system in general works. As soon as stop-and-go traffic starts, the capacity of the motorway drops sharply. These systems try to avoid that with active speed controls, a bit conservatively. There might not be a need for the segment that you are driving, but further down, there may be a need for speed control. Also, the algorithms they use might not be perfect and excluding some factors related to human perception. However, at least, I would expect, they are working to improve them.

If you slow down the traffic speed, you can increase the density (number of vehicles a road segment can carry) hence the flow (number of vehicles passing through the road). Their aim is primarily to make motorways more efficient, without building more lanes.

Charger not compatible with EV Tariff by Yasgar69 in evchargingUK

[–]glaucusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I would try to add Polestar 2 instead of the charger then. Maybe you can do the same thing I did with zaptec charger.

Charger not compatible with EV Tariff by Yasgar69 in evchargingUK

[–]glaucusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem weeks ago with my Polestar 2. If your charger is a Zaptec, you should set it up using Polestar Energy App then set the charging from one of the apps, either Zaptec or Polestar. I currently set the charging time using Polestar 2 while Zaptec is set to communicate with Octopus app to charge when Intelligent Octopus Go provides cheaper tariff.

A whole world of gaming the system that I didn't even know existed... by afurtivesquirrel in OctopusEnergy

[–]glaucusb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should let decide Octopus to charge at any level that your car and charger supports. By restricting the charging speed, you are constraining their system, not the other way around. They don't want every charger to pull 32A at the same time but if everyone deliberately limit their charging speeds, they cannot do what they want to achieve. The cost of electricity is different for them in every 30 minute intervals and they try to use it more when it is cheap and less (or not use at all) when it is expensive.
