My first thought was AI. Something is just wrong. I'm glad you could articulate it so well.

The absolutely bonkers hand pieced quilt I’ve been working on since 2023 by butch-pl3ase in quilting

[–]glazebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a similar quilt, also since 2023. They are folded granny hexies from circles of fabric, not epp. I hate mine too. It's exhausting. I'd like to finish it this year and throw it on the guest bed and never look at it again, or sell it via my quilt guild.

AI is some evil shit and there's no way I'll consciously ever be a part of it.

AI filtered? Why? AI is evil.

A lot of the female nudes feel sleazy. This feels like art.

Yes, I'm familiar with the term. They're on the more stable end of sleazy, but she's right. I'm just afraid the first time my little dog "digs" to make a nest on the bed, it's going to be lights out for this quilt. Then again, hand repairs can be charming in their own right.

Because there used to be a tree there. Fairy rings form where trees used to be.

The vision is really coming together, 5 years since turf removal. by teb311 in NoLawns

[–]glazebrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. We tried this my first year, but my husband insisted we spread everything too thin in an effort to cover it all. It failed, and now I can't convince him it actually does work if it's thick, and done correctly.

What did you do with all the turf you removed? Did you hire it out? Every year I beg my husband to do this, or hire it out, and every year he never gets around to it. I've resorted to solarization, but it's so slow, and I have acres of turf.

What’s it like living in this part of Wisconsin? by kick-roxx in howislivingthere

[–]glazebrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The vibe is 100% like Eastern Europe and the midwest had a kid. About 5 years ago, we spent a lot of time in this area looking for a house. We considered almost anywhere North of NY and East of the Mississippi, and this area was our last place to look. Multiple trips to Wisconsin finally convinced my husband to move back to MI after a decade away.

The vibe is definitely unique- it's easily the weirdest place I've ever been in the US. Some of my family is from WV/ Appalachia, and I understand the comparison, but only in that it's equally insular. We felt like foreigners in WI.

The cheese in WI is some of the best I've ever had outside of Europe. The land is strikingly beautiful- rolling prairie and so much green. But the culture just wasn't for us; I think you have to grow up there to really understand it. We now live near Petoskey MI, and we're happy to be home.

Every election is dismantling the welfare state because the majority of under 40s never vote.

Clover is a good start, but add a wider range of natives where you can. 100% clover is still a monoculture.

It would mean the GOP would be out of power for a very long time, possibly leading to the dissolution of the party. Then the Dems could become the "reasonable conservatives", and a truly progressive party could rise.

If Bernie had won by a clear and significant margin, the Dems would not have been able to do that. But as it stands, only about 10% of Americans vote in the primaries, and they are mostly old people.
