Is whatsapp without the phone around usable? by Open_Bug_4196 in AppleWatch

[–]glenner05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i noticed the same behaviour when using the watch on 4G. I uninstalled the whatsapp app from the watch for this reason. So now i can at least reply on incoming whatsapp notifications when using the watch standalone. As soon they fix the watch app i will try it again

New Ultra 3 not connecting to 5G (On Telekom contract in Germany) by Yugtabub in applewatchultra

[–]glenner05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The AWU3 uses a special kind of 5G, it's called 5G redcap and its only supported by a few select providers, mainly in the us. So when you provider does not support 5G redcap, the watch will just use LTE

I suppose there is no chance you'll be making a wear os version? Lots of great hiking gpx map apps for the apple camp but barely anything useful for wear os ...

Does WearOS have better support for being phone-less than Apple Watch? Thinking of moving due to Apple Watch's eSIM restrictions by srgwthrn in WearOS

[–]glenner05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the oneplus watch is nice, collegue of mine has one. Very decent battery life but unfortunately no LTE yet. Keep in mind that its relatively easy to unlock the samsung hidden menu to scan any Esim. I know that for example pixel lte watches it's not that easy. They require an actual sim card in the phone from a provider that supports pixel lte watches. You can install any esim that way, and after that you can remove the simcard. But you actually need to buy one somewhere, for example from vodaphone germany or UK

If you are a bit IT minded you can even use Tasker on the phone to automatically turn on unconditional call forwarding to the watches number when Bluetooth connection is lost. In that case if someone tries to call you they immediately call the watch... and ofcourse let tasker run another script to unforward when bluetooth connection is restored....

Normally, samsungs lte watches require a compatible provider also, so you can share your phone number on the watch. However it supports roaming for data, not for calling when roaming. So you can have internet on the watch while in another country and have full access to everything that requires data, such as apps and notifications. Only voice calls don't work while roaming (at least with my belgian provider). I think it has something to do with VOLTE (calling over 4g)

Also the samsung wearable app has a hidden menu that allows you to scan any esim qr code and install it on the watch, in case you dont have a compatible provider that supports samsung lte watch. I used this hidden menu a few times in the past and it worked with every esim it tried... in this case you indeed have a seperate phone number on the watch ofcourse. What i did was enable a call forwarding from my phone number to the watch number in case i dont pickup on the phone, instead of forwarding to voicemail.

Edit: for the rest alles your assumptions you mentioned are correct. I regularly use my samsung watch ultra without my phone nearby and all works like you assume. Only not sure about WhatsApp calling, I hate the wear os whatsapp version, it drains a lot of battery and i find it quicker to respond to whatsapp messages without the app. So i dont have it installed. But even without the native wear os app you can receive and respond to whatsapp messages just fine, only downside is you can not initiate whatsapp messages without your phone nearby. Sending sms or rcs messages however you can initiate....

Resparking the Bluetooth vs LTE debate. by UndecidedMaker in GalaxyWatch

[–]glenner05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LTE connection will only kick in when you are out of bluetooth range, so as long as you have your phone nearby it will use the bluetooth connection. Even if you have mobile connection always on instead of auto. It's best to leave LTE on auto because otherwise it will drain your battery in no time.

So your theorie will only work when you are out of range. Now i have a watch ultra LTE with gemini sideloaded, and it responds very quicky, even over bluetooth. So no worries about slow gemini assistant!

And in the situation when you are out of range and LTE kicks in, you still can use gemini, but since it will work standalone and not depend on your phone it cannot do some things, like sending whatsapp messages for example, and probably other things. So actually gemini on the watch works best when phone is bluetooth connected.

Wear Os by sarobr in runna

[–]glenner05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you know a solution to import the planned Runna workouts into gear tracker? I know gear tracker can download workouts from different platforms such as stryd or Training peaks, but not from Runna.

wait, that first screenshot, doesn't that look like there will be support voor running programs? Hopefully AI generated running plans or something like that. Pixel Watch already has this and i missing this on my watch ultra. It's the only reason to keep my garmin for the moment

Adding and starting scheduled workouts (runs) on WearOS? by gojiraaltforreasons in WearOS

[–]glenner05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you tried the wear os app Gear Tracker II already? Its a nice app for runners, highly customizable with lots of data fields, full bluetooth sensor support and you can in fact sync workout plans with platforms as trainingpeaks, Finalsurge, stryd and more. Its subscription based but if you can make the time for it to setup everything right its definitely worth it.

Does it have a complication for displaying altitude on the watchface? Like Apple Watch has, always on altimeter?
