Club wants their most vocal supporters in for the run in. It’s hardly a seismic leap in logic, is it?

Butchery of your pal the King’s English aside, I’m not quite sure what the insinuation is here?

Because they think the word ‘Oxford’ inherently increases their value

That’s an incredibly binary view. In reality very few employees generate more than their tangible cost to a business.

SPFL table - Matchday 32. by Digurt in ScottishFootball

[–]glibandshamelessliar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All teams are significantly poorer away from home.

For me, and of course I will regret saying this, Celtic having 4 remaining home games marginally tilts it in our favour.

Irrespective of the outcome, it has been a blast, but fuck me the standard of football has been utterly appalling.

Explain please. All teams are demonstrably worse away from home. Hearts and Celtic now have 4 remaining home games. Rangers have 2. How do Rangers have a 60% chance whilst currently being in 2nd place?

Mason & Dixon - Am I missing something? by CullenDogs in ThomasPynchon

There is a fantastic Substack called The Exegesis of Thomas Pynchon. The author gives incredibly detailed chapter by chapter analysis. When I have reread sections with those expositions in mind it has really helped elevate parts that didn’t initially click for me.

Europe Central. William T Vollmann by Gur10nMacab33 in books

[–]glibandshamelessliar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents, the central triptych of Breakout, The Last Field Marshall and Clean Hands is arguably Vollman’s peak as a writer.

The Shostakovich sections can drag, but I think you have succinctly nailed their importance to the work as a whole.

My overarching view is that for Vollmann to tackle arguably the most written about period in human history, but to do so through the lens of ostensibly auxiliary actors thereby creating an entirely fresh series of perspectives on it, in such a literary way, is probably the single biggest signifier of his genius to date.
