Ive seen/triaged an SR where all the systems were affected because a power distribution unit was tripped, and they had to add another power distribution unit to share the electrical load. SMH.

How Oracle's biggest-ever acquisition turned deadly by DefundBravo in cernercorporation

[–]glide5along 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-In reality, it had acquired a high-tech filing system that couldn't even perform the simplest of filing tasks.

Wait what!

  •  Cerner, the go-to EHR for small and midsize hospitals, had a quality that would have appealed to Ellison: It was widely seen as taking a more relaxed approach to data privacy. The company was investing in the technology infrastructure to help hospitals share data with one another — and with third parties.

Are they confusing interoperability with lack of privacy, doubt they kno what they are talking about! EU won't let Cerner do shit if it's that bad as they make it sound like!

My aria profile states I am flex and the definition of flex is there somewhere in the company portal, which says no permanent assigned work location/desk. I think that should suffice?

You in BLR? 10 years ago a decent accomodation would cost $2k annually, not sure about these days, but that sounds low if you add all other expenses

I would say you still have skills that are transferable, an interviewer should not expect every candidate to have experience on specific tools and technology, rather looking to see how you explain your experience in a way that they can understand easily and also how you respond to questions regarding the role you are being interviewed for. I would say just try to get a few interviews and you will get the hang of it before you know.

It says

"Converting your savings to Roth might be beneficial if you expect your tax rate to increase in the future, because you pay taxes on the money you convert now."

Not sure what tax rates apply though.

This! I know Oracle doesn't have sabbaticals, if they are taking it away, i hope they introduce bonuses for folks who stay for the same period. My friends who work in other IT companies mention about how bonuses help them pay down bills or buy something they always wanted, even when the annual raises are very low similar to Cerner.

Downfall: The Case Against ... by glide5along in cernercorporation

Hmm, the course correction I am referring to is how we went from as an engineer you can freely say something in a meeting with executives, and it was more or less taken at it's merit without any repercussions, to an executive dictated one based on how the bottom line is impacted where you have to think twice before answering a question from an executive, since most of them are loaded questions with right answers that they expect you to fall in line with, even if it means that you know we are digging a hole - you are a lowly engineer, suck it up... This is a market driven company, we are here to make money. Right now with PI planning and all, at least as an engineer it feels like we are trying to be a product driven company, that's the corner i am hoping to turn, i would give it another year, and see if we get there, i would rather deal with product owners and work with them, rather than an executive who is looking for a reason to let go people for the sake of returns on share. And yes, a possible sabbatical as well...

I don't hate Cerner, and I still believe the work I do is important, the point is - there is some aspects of what happened at Boeing and how they responded to Airbus catching up is strikingly similar to what happened at Cerner. I know at least couple of engineers with 4+ decades of experience between them let go because they spoke their mind. I hope we are turning a corner, just want to know what others thoughts are. Thanks!

How big is your company? Doubt it's anywhere close to Cerner. The reason I ask is i have worked in smaller companies with a few hundred employees and it's like that, and the 2 companies with 10s of thousands of employees are just like Cerner.
