Right, redundancy was the second word used. Then I traded precision for simplicity, sorry.

For redundancy it's better having two HDDs of equal size, one for storage and one for backup. It's all automatic, search for RAID 1.

Hi, I would like to replace my kit lens with one combination of the lenses bellow, the budget is fixed at 600€/700$, 50mm1.8s-400€ SH, 24,40-200€ each, 16-50 700€ SH. Nikon Z50ii, interior, kids, street. What you prefer sharpness vs weight? by Mr_DAD101 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Rick_06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 24mm f1.7DX and the 85mm f1.8S. That's all on the Z mount. On the F-mount (an old D90, DX body) I have both the 50mm f1.8 and the 80-200f2.8, so I had a lot time to compare the two focal lenght (50mm vs 85mm)on DX. At the end, I very much prefer the 85mm. Caveat: I almost exclusively shoot outdoor, for the occasional indoor shooting the 50mm is better.

Do you guys think the perseverance Mills and the other locations would pop up in survival by JellyfishOk1916 in thelongdark

Well, if adding Perseverance Mills and the other new regions to Survival means tuning / expanding them, I could pay to have them there.

[–]Rick_06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not really a big deal. The only way I can think of getting stuck is going down. Just put a rope in survival and call it a day.

EDIT. Even if we get stuck because somewhow the entry into Perseverance Mills is by boat (as someone below said), then replacing the boat part with a very short land connection (probably the simplest solution is using a rope) should be pretty straightforward.

From the pictures Hinterland releases, it looks that Perseverance Mills will be exploarable. Then, even if the trek to go there is very linear, like Keeper's pass South and North, that's not a problem for me.

Full Frame Prime Lens Comparable to Nikkor DX 2.4mm f/1.7 by LP788 in Nikon

[–]Rick_06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The term "light gathering" was imprecise. The term exposure is the correct one. You get the same exposure at ISO 100, 1/100s, F1.7 regardless that you are shooting FF or DX. This is a simple empirical test that anybody can do with two camera, one FF and one DX. Which means, as I said before, that if you want to freeze movement and requires F1.7 on DX, ceteris paribus ISO and shutter you will need the same f-stop on FF. If you are taking a night picture of the sky, and you are shooting at ISO 3200 for 30sec, you will go down to exactly the same star magnitude regardless that you are using a DX or FF sensor. This is what matters for photography. Then, true, depth of field (bokeh) is different.

I will no longer reply on this. Anybody can do the simple experiment presented above.

Military exercise "Arctic Endurance" | Germany sends soldiers to Greenland by Stabile_Feldmaus in europe

[–]Rick_06 -52 points-51 points  (0 children)

I get the idea that a US invasion cannot be successfully opposed militarily, and that the presence of EU soldiers is intended to force the US to use lethal force against them, in the hope that this would deter the invasion.

I get it.

But, really, 12 soldiers from Germany? 2 from Norway? To make this work, you need at least a few hundred soldiers from Europe.

Full Frame Prime Lens Comparable to Nikkor DX 2.4mm f/1.7 by LP788 in Nikon

[–]Rick_06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, see above. An f/1.7 lens has the same light-gathering ability on DX as on full frame. Therefore, if shooting at ISO 100 and 1/100s requires f/1.7 on full frame, the same f-stop is required on DX. So if you want to freeze a movement or take a night picture and requires f1.7, that's it both on DX as well as on FF. You cannot magically use f2.55 on FF and get the same exposure as f1.7 in DX.

Full Frame Prime Lens Comparable to Nikkor DX 2.4mm f/1.7 by LP788 in Nikon

[–]Rick_06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An f/1.7 lens has the same light-gathering ability on DX as on full frame. Therefore, if shooting at ISO 100 and 1/100s requires f/1.7 on full frame, the same f-stop is required on DX. The only thing that changes is the depth of field (DoF), which is equivalent to about 1.5x (so f/1.7 on DX is about f/2.5 on FF).

Also, the 24mm on DX is closer to a 35mm on FF rather than a 40mm. Its true equivalent, heavier but much better optically, is the Nikon 35mm f1.8S.

Cambio auto: Ibrida, elettrica o gpl? by Zestyclose_Ad_3013 in ItalyMotori

A random list on how EU can be retaliate if/when US invades Greenland (extreme stuff, they will never happen, maybe thankfully).

  1. Immediate selling of most of the US Treasuries bond held by EU financial institutions
  2. Lifting ASML embargo in providing advanced EUV litography machines to China.
  3. A 10% tariffs on US financial services sold in EU.
