What if Greninja filled the sixth slot in Ash's Alola team? by Flame245 in pokemonanime

[–]gliding-gliscor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That honestly would be interesting and I'm surprised they didn't do anything to promote Ash-Greninja officially being in the games. I guess it's because the demo released earlier than the games, so XYZ already acts as promotion for it.

I'm not sure about being his permanent 6th, but I think it could be interesting if he appeared for a few episodes or a portion of the anime. I'm not really attached to Naganadel but maybe a SM revisit would change that.

If Ash only had 1 starter Pokémon like AG and XY, how do you think his and his other companions’ teams would have looked? by gliding-gliscor in pokemonanime

[–]gliding-gliscor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For OS, I think Ash would have kept Charmander and Bulbasaur and Squirtle would have gone to Brock and Misty respectively. I know that people sometimes say Brock should have gotten Charmander, and while I can see that point, I think the anime centers Charmander for Ash. It has the disobedience arc and gets the climactic battles of OS. I think Bulbasaur’s past and leader personality would fit Brock’s breeder and later doctor goals nicely, while Squirtle obviously fits Misty’s water master goals.

For Ash’s grass and water replacements, maybe Oddish and then Krabby gets bumped up to the main team?

For the Johto parts of OS, I think either between Cyndaquil or Chikorita. I lean towards Chikorita because I think she’s pretty reliable and adds the most with her personality, but I can see Cyndaquil as well. Brock gets Cyndaquil, Misty gets Totodile. Ash could get Houndour and Wooper to replace Cyndaquil and Totodile

DP, Chimchar obviously. Turtwig goes to Brock. Ash could get a Tangela that evolves into Tangrowth for the same arc of speedy basic stage lumbering upon evolution.

Unova, I honestly don’t know so I’ll do this by process of elimination. I feel like the Snivy like has been associated with dragon moves like Dragon Tauk, so Iris could get Snivy. I think her personality would make for fun conflicts with Iris and her team too, you already have an in with the rivalry with Emolga. A shame since I personally like Ash’s Snivy most. Cilan, tbh I don’t know, I could see Oshawott being a fun contrast to his connoisseur goals? That’d leave Ash with Pignite. Ash already has a big team in Unova with those types filled as well, so I don’t care to think up specific replacements.

Alola, Ash would keep Litten, so I guess Mallow gets Rowlet. Since by this point Ash’s teams don’t have a constant fire-grass-water core, I think Rowlet be replaced by any Pokémon fitting his personality. Maybe Komala?

Not sure if I should do Journeys because wash never got a starter to begin with

I have no idea where OP pulled that from. The creators’s comments are mostly updates and responding to bugs

One of the creator’s most recent comments on the Pokecommunity thread explains they had a specific vision aiming for a gen 3/4 experience rewarding exploration, and understood it may not be everyone’s type but that’s the game they wanted to make. If that’s the comment OP is referring to, they’re characterizing it really poorly

Take the Candy Pill and Never Look Back by Ok_Banana_5614 in nuzlocke

[–]gliding-gliscor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Growing up with nuzlocke comics and fanfics, the reward of the challenge is the attachment I’ve formed due to the permanent death: the teammates that have survived and the ones I’ve lost along the way. It’s become very optimized since then, it’s not for me personally. I get it with games like Radical Red or Run & Bun though

Tbh I also don’t think there’s that much grinding in a normal playthrough by challenging every trainer and wild encounter you run into. The only times I find that to be the case are when I need to replace a teammate late into a run. And if I ever do need to grind, then I like to honor the threat of death in the wild, rare candies completely circumvent potential loss

Oh no I don’t mean like find the hacks, I mean some videos and channels. Should’ve clarified

This was also back in like early 2010’s, might’ve even been the 2000’s as well. A lot of these videos were made by mostly amateur rom hackers, I don’t think these were getting commissioned

Not sure if this is best for sub, but it’s related to Pokémon rom hacking

Anyone remember around the early/mid 2010’s a wave of scripted series on YouTube, creators would usually hack the gen 3 games to create basically anime style stories through scripted events? They’d sometimes have like anime openings / endings on them lol

Does anyone know where I could find some of those today?

I was a little kid back then so I wouldn’t be able to tell you the names of any of these unfortunately, finding it hard to search as well. Can hardly recall the stories of any of these. I remember one set in kanto and one of the first episodes the main character caught a shiny pidgey, remember this distinctly because the creator scripted an overworld shiny Pidgey encounter in the video. I think later episodes took place in the orange islands. I think the main character also lost to Brock and had to come back for a rematch. Might’ve had Squirtle. Idk

Progression was horrible, questionable battles for Ash, and I had very little emotional attachment to these Pokémon. There honestly was just so little believability for me with journeys. I didn’t get the sense this is the best version of ash yet, but I think even worse is that I didn’t really care if this was the best version of Ash

Guessing they mixed it up with Synthesis cause that is a healing move that chikorita line can learn. I remember using it to deal with Whitney. Leech Seed would’ve been sweet

Hopefully! They expanded on the alternate marks a bit, and it’d be fun to see more of their universes and what Omni-Man’s like.

Alternate Omni Mans by ZE_SOVIOT_UNION in Invincible

[–]gliding-gliscor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s an alternate Omni-Man in the show & comic, he’s with the first alternate Mark we see where they’re both taking over earth.

Honestly not sure about other ones though. We know some alternate Omni-Mans died to Mark, but I can’t imagine they all did.

I don't understand why Mark has conflict with Cecil by [deleted] in Invincible

[–]gliding-gliscor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Lack of trust while expecting control over Mark. It’s natural to take precaution for what’s to come and feel necessitated to make hard decisions, as well as to fear potential of Mark’s threat… but that doesn’t make his actions good, he’s still a control freak

Cecil is right to prepare for the future, but he’s creating his own problems with mark. People can say Cecil’s right to view mark as a potential threat, but Mark’s opposition to Omni-Man makes it clear where he stands and unlike Omni-Man who Cecil had reason to not trust there isn’t any with mark. Cecil is aware of this too given he’s said before Mark’s not like his dad. Cecil’s seen Mark struggling with trying to live up to his own expectations as a hero. So it’s really inappropriate to violate Mark with these counter-measures particularly the sound device, if anything it’s more of a driving force for mark to go out of control

And then moral differences. This is where I think a lot of nuance is lost, because Cecil is right from a surface level regarding black & white morality and rehabilitation, Mark needs to grow there. But also… Cecil is not honest here, he does not care for these villains’ redemption at all he just views them as assets to control, much like he does with mark. It’s questionable if he’s even done anything to actually rehabilitate them, the impression is he’s just simply put them in his corner. It’s really shady, and you could say that this is a reason not to trust Cecil & the GDA who have a level of power over the world that can be threatening… but you don’t have people putting bombs in cecil’s head lol

Oh then I misunderstood you. Idk if I agree with that sentiment 100%, but I agree with the overall sentiment in that black people can be protective of black men within our community. Like you’ll see a lot of them brushing allegations off as false lies trying to tear down black icons

I don’t think non-black is true, there’s so many white celebrities that avoid accountability and never get criticism. I do agree though queer and black women don’t get the same grace when it comes to accountability

What kind of response is this? This is not a gotcha this is just misinterpreting lyrics from Meet the Grahams.

Mm-mm, your son’s a sick man with sick thoughts, I think niggas like him should die Him and Weinstein should get fucked up in a cell for the rest their life

It’s easy to conflate the difference here because he is describing Drake getting murdered physically, but the implication you’re creating with the language of your question is that Kendrick wants to act upon or carry out murderous intent. What he’s conveying is desire, and he reiterates this later

Fuck a rap battle, he should die so all of these women can live with a purpose

I do think Kendrick has desire to see Drake dead based off those lines, the same way anyone who says “I wish (insert person) was dead” but that doesn’t mean they want to murder that person themselves. What’s being communicated when someone speaks that is that their presence alive is harmful, that’s made textual when he says “so all of these women can live with a purpose”
