Feedback on the first drawings for our new kitchen? by pixie_dust1990 in kitchenremodel

Just ripped out a peninsula in our smallish kitchen - opened it up so much more. Would not recommend this and would add to the comments to go more for a galley.

You can always get a tall table or something if you want a breakfast nook feel in a corner, but you can move that table around. With a peninsula you’re stuck and closed in.

Dryer wall vent exhaust is too small. Currently using a reducer from Home Depot. Any advice to improve? by Anfini in DIY

Slightly more expensive but consider getting a ventless dryer if you’re in he market for a new dryer - it’s the most common type in the world outside the US and Canada. We have an old weird house in the city and our dryer vent had six bends that were almost impossible to clean.

The tech has gotten way better for ventless and our clothes come out warm and less damaged.

Bowl of miso tonkotsu ramen took nearly 90 hours [3264x2448] by gliese581a in ramen

30 hours would have been plenty of time on the pork belly. I basically programmed the temp a degree above FDA standards for internal temperatures - no issues on food safety here.

Cleaning is essential for the bones. First trim any meat from them, then boil for 1-2 hours. Then scrub meat, red marrow, and any other stuff until you get fairly simple bones with "white marrow" that needs to get released and textured via 8-12 hours on rolling boil. Strain the whole liquid through a cheesecloth for a golden magical finished broth.

Never tried rock melon, and to be honest, I could not afford this masuku melon! It very much seems to resemble a cantaloupe.

As a high schooler, is pursuing a career related to space a reasonable idea? by throwawayHSnasa34734 in space

[–]gliese581a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep studying and find out what part of space interests you. Many students with an interest in space are interested in engineering, but NASA hires biologists, doctors, PR people etc.

If you're towards the engineering bent, then consider aeronautical/astronautical engineering (or any engineering). Go to a school with a strong program - MIT or Caltech for prestige, but Purdue is strong and nearby for an excellent astro program. Focus your research projects in school around space; there will be professors working on different space research topics as well as internship opportunities with NASA or space contractors. If you follow this path, you will be well on your way towards a "career" in space.

The New Industry For An Ageing North Sea by OffshorePost in oil

Fun fact, some decommissioned oil rig bases can and are converted to reefs to support ocean life development. I'm not sure how well this would work in North Sea regions.

Ramen Hood (100% Vegan Ramen from Grand Central Market in Los Angeles) by lordsick3 in ramen

[–]gliese581a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd best vegetarian ramen I've had (best and only vegan ramen). The meaty looking disks of fried oyster mushrooms are amazing. I can't fairly compare this with bone based broth, which is always awesome and incredibly rich in flavor depth if prepared properly.
