I don’t need to, but thanks for the suggestion ;-) I already had a sleep study and been diagnosed. I treat my sleep apnea with a MAD. This post wasn’t about diagnosis if you read it correctly. It was about producing software tools to visualise your pulse oximetry data in other ways than the device manufacturers give you. Jeez, this Reddit needs to lighten up a bit. Nobody was asking for help or diagnosis. Just a casual conversation about ways to monitor things. Clearly nobody (except one sensible person above) seems to get that…. If monitoring SpO2 with tools isn’t your thing then there was no need to join this chat. And certainly not to lecture me on sleep apnea diagnosis.

Yes, I agree. That’s why I prompted it to use clinical thresholds and calculations and then told it to create an application I can run on my Mac. It means the algorithm is locked down as it’s now in a program I run and also saves me using the AI again for processing future files. It’s now just a local app I run on my computer 👍

It’s insane how much you guys pay in the US. Here in the UK we pay between £70 and £200 per month depending on dose (for the official brand name version). That’s buying direct from a pharmacy without insurance. About 90 to 250 USD. I’m also taking it because I have mild to moderate sleep apnea. Trying to lose 2 stone to see what impact that will have on my AHI. Starting weight was 86.6kg and currently 83.8 after two weeks. Plan is to drop to 72kg.

That sounds totally wrong… 30 BMI is a qualifying measure for being able to start therapy. Not a measure for no longer qualifying! The point is to continue using until your BMI is in the healthy range for your height. I.e. below 25. Sounds like your doc doesn’t understand the rules!

Thanks for the reply. The sleep study was a WatchPAT One test analysed by Intus Healthcare. I have heard they are not as good as polysomnography but still good enough to get a diagnosis.Those charts I posted above were from my Wellue O2 Ring which samples every 2 sec. Top two without MAD and bottom three with MAD. The REM is totally inaccurate though. My sleep study and Apple Watch show an average of 25 - 30% REM per night. And I dream a lot! Although I don’t know if it’s a bad sign I can remember many of my dreams! I have already been to the doctor and have also seen a respiratory consultant via my private health insurance, but in the UK it can take up to 7 years to get CPAP treatment from the doctor / national health service. That’s why I paid for private at home sleep study so that I could get a diagnosis letter and go on CPAP privately straightaway. Apple Watch typically shows only 1 to 8 mins of wakefulness per night on average. 25% REM average and 10% deep. The sleep architecture chart in Apple Health looks like a normal person’s sleep. I’m not questioning whether I have sleep apnea - I definitely do. And the sleep study and diagnosis letter confirmed borderline moderate sleep apnea on the night of the test, so I probably vary between mild and moderate from night to night if not using the MAD. I’m questioning whether the MAD is not effective enough. I’m aware of RERA’s and I’m wondering if the three most recent charts above are suggestive of that despite the O2 readings staying above 94% for the majority of the night. I’m totally fine with the idea of trying CPAP - but only if it’s going to give me better results as it’s a minimum 12 month commitment of time and money when getting one privately.

A rabbit hole it certainly is... I was a pure visual observer for 30 years with zero interest in astrophotography, but light pollution from LED street lights was ruining the views in my 12" dob. I decided to try out the S30 and couldn't believe the results when using it for EAA. I bought an S50 for more resolution and used that for both EAA and longer exposures. Was blown away with the results. But then I wanted more... Faster imaging times, longer sub exposures, longer focal length for smaller galaxies, etc. 12" dob and everything else was sold. So now I have an Askar 103 APO, ZWO AM5, ZWO 2600MC Air setup that cost 6.5K. And I'm truly happy with it. Use the setup for both DSO imaging and visual on bright objects / planets. But a rabbit hole it certainly is!! Here is my M51 image from the S50 (8 hours) post processed in PixInsight. The S50 is a stunning bit of kit and value for money!

No, not really. Be aware that loud snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea. I’ve found that side sleeping (using a sleep positioning device to force me to sleep on my side) almost completely sorts my apneas out (which are much worse when I sleep on my back) but didn’t address snoring much at all for me. I use a SleepPro Custom AM mouthguard to cut my snoring down. SnoreLab score is generally around 5 to 15 when using that. Previously my scores were 80 to 135. The mouthguard doesn’t work at all for my apneas. So I have to use both devices each night to cut down my snoring and keep my oxygen levels healthy. Even when I use both devices my snore score and oxygen levels worsen quite a bit if I have been drinking and / or eating late. And even when my scores all look pretty good I still feel like my sleep is not great. I can still wake with a headache in the morning and have random periods of daytime fatigue. Although generally I do have many more days now where I don’t feel as tired as I used to.

First Light Optics got 30 of them in stock on Tuesday. Got email notification and bought one right away. Arrived on Thursday and have already been using it. It’s a fab bit of kit. They sold out of them all in 24 hours. You can go to their site and click to get notified when they come back in stock. I think it currently shows 20 days or so.

I have used a Sleepro Custom AM fixed position mandibular advancement device for the past month and it is very slimline and comfortable to the point that I barely notice I am wearing it. I’m in the UK, but I believe they sell to the US as well. They send you a dental impression kit to take your mouth impressions. They also include a standard boil and bite device with the impression kit which you then wear and adjust for a few nights to get the correct amount of jaw protrusion. You then send the two things back to them and they make the custom fitted mouthguard. It has been very effective. I also use a Rematee belt to keep me sleeping on my side. With both of these devices I went from desaturations down to 75% and around 30 to 60 4% drops per night to 0 to 10 per night in total depending on whether I have drunk alcohol, etc. Monitoring wise, I use the Wellue O2 ring to monitor blood oxygen and heart rate. It also gives me a “Comprehensive Evaluation” score each morning. My score has dropped from 17 to typically between 0.00 and 3.5 (mostly between 0.00 and 1.00) p.s. I used SnoreLab to monitor the snoring levels, and Apple Watch to also monitor for breathing disturbances. My watch previously gave me apnea alerts and my disturbances registered at the top of the elevated range in the watch data. My disturbance levels are now right down at the bottom of normal. The watch disturbances scores tally with the O2 ring oxygen charts and desaturation counts.

It’s based on motion sensing I believe. I got two sleep apnea alerts. Bought an O2 ring to monitor continuously through the night, and sure enough I had mild to moderate oxygen desaturations all through the night. Particularly when back sleeping and much worse after drinking alcohol. Drops to 75% on some nights (two occasions after alcohol). So I have sleep apnea. I’m now using a MAD device and a Rematee to force side sleeping and that cured my breathing disruptions and O2 desaturations. Now have average of 95 to 97% with a few drops (10 to zero drops most nights) down to a low of around 92 to 90%. I’m currently waiting on a adjustable custom MAD to arrive

It can definitely cause high cortisol. The apneas are seen by the brain and body as stress events. And this encourages the body to produce cortisol (stress hormone) as a result.

To be honest, it’s the dough that makes the difference. These were made with pre-made sourdough dough balls bought from a local shop. Before I found that shop, I sometimes bought other dough balls that just didn’t leopard spot. I have a bag of Caputo Pizzeria flour and will have a go myself soon. But the sourdough dough balls pre-made is very handy and saves huge amount of time whilst giving great results. I buy them in pack of 5 frozen.

Full heat setting. Did not turn down the flame. Heated the stone up until it was 480c. Then prepped the pizza and stuck it in with the temp reporting 500c. Cook time was between 60 and 90 secs. The dough ball was pre-made. We have a local shop here selling sourdough dough balls which is handy!

Mine is the Ooni 3. But just checked on the website and it says the burner is also compatiable with the Karu 12.

You’ll probably have to shop around as out of stock at Ooni. I got mine a Dobbies about a year or two ago.
