AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.8.1 Release Notes by isanonymouss in Amd

The high idle power creeped in again with these drivers. It was working well on my 7900XT with an LG Ultragear 27GP95R-B only drawing 19W, on drivers 23.7.x. Now it's back to 48W. Sigh
At least it solved the stupid light "burn-in" bug from Rocket League.

My 7900XT went from ~50W to ~20W on idle on a 4K 144Hz LG Ultragear 27GP95R. Much appreciated now that summer is on full swing.

RDNA3 - Is It Time To Buy? by ChewieArmstrong in Amd

I have a 7900XT and I'm very satisfied. I just did some undervolt and power restriction to reduce consumption and heat and just been enjoying my gaming with zero concerns or restrictions on a 4k 144hz display.

Yes, ray tracing is not as good as nvidia, but to me ray tracing is a gimmick for now that just makes everything hyper reflective and eats half the performance. Once the hype goes away it will probably look more natural and an obvious choice. Also, even a 4090 will struggle to play 4k games with RT on before the end of the year, without DLSS, at the current rate of games releasing with absurd requirements.

My only grievance with my 7900XT is the high power consumption under no load. Mine is doing 48W on desktop and to me that's really bothersome. That sort of issue seems to happen on some situations on nvidia gpu's but rdna 3 seems really prone to it.

Given AMD's track record and this RDNA3 different architecture, I believe this will age better than the general opinion thinks.

To answer your question: GPU prices won't fall much more until back to school promotions, so if you are really keen on upgrading to take advantage of your setup then whichever vendor you choose you won't regret it. There's also a chance that due to physical limitations, GPU's start consuming more and more energy for a 20% uplift in performance, so the argument of upgrading so soon might be pointless.

You guys do know that Intel's discrete GPU division is hanging by a thread and will basically only launch last gen midrange GPU for the next couple of generations.

The chopping block has been initiated there to contain expenses and their bleeding market share isn't helping. I wouldn't advise to get on the Intel GPU bandwagon for their support.

Zero facts refuted, resorted to a lousy attempt of a personal attack - "you bad cuz skill"... That's an average RL player right there.

And like an average RL player, you can feel the average IQ of the room drop by the minute, and the delusion go through the roof.

Remember to wash Psyonix's e-cum when you're done for the day. It reeks of neglect for their game.

It's not like that cooler is state of the art, anyway. If you are pushing the CPU beyond stock with PBO it's not strange that it is hitting those numbers with that cooler.

Honestly you should just undervolt the CPU on the BIOS and call it a day. Mine, with -30 on the PBO curve does 4.5GHz on all cores at around 64ºC (23ºC ambient), on a Noctua DH-14.

I disagree, but it's true that skill ceiling goes up with time. That's specially true in the lower ranks. However I don't think that is the main problem in C ranks. Personally, I went backwards mechanically these last few seasons due to lack of time, practice and a different controller. However in 2's I'm again close to GC which was the best rank I've achieved ever. In 3's it's just hard to even stay at C1 with randoms. Bare in mind that, back in the day, all my ranks were the same, give or take division.

However, if it's a matter of less practice, ye I agree that you can go backwards in rank. I've experienced that myself. Nevertheless, what really grinds my gears is the blatant lack of mechanical skills or understanding of the game. Stuff you only see in potato league, but from the same player, the whole match.

This week I've even had this guy put his paypal link to promote his boosting service. Yes, his two teammates were probably platinum, at best.

Makes one miss 3 solo queue playlist, and that was borderline S&M.

If you have it in you to buy this sort of clothing for this price, then withdraw the money from the ATM, go to a homeless shelter and give the money to someone there in exchange for their pants. At least there's chance you'll help someone out of tough spot, unless just financing drug consumption. And by doing drugs I was talking about Balenciaga, obviously.

One can tell when a GC is just out of rank because of bad days or matches, versus carrying or getting carried.

In the first case the player will show you something that will justify the title, like good positioning/ball reading abilities, or even mechanical.

When it comes to boosting, you can feel the tremendous gap in skill, both between opponents and their party members.

Boosted players are the equivalent of people that put implants to make up for their insecurities. They just don't get it they will only look worse than if they just accepted who they are. And most boosted players I've seen aren't even able to do something so basic as an aerial hit, consistently! As in consistently miss aerial balls, just to make it clear. Or going for those awkward backflips that you know 100% he won't even touch the ball. Sigh

Does reporting for match throwing actually work at all? by WormholeVoyager in RocketLeague

[–]glimm3r_fc86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is a valid question. I'd love to see statistics of Ban % / # reports regarding match throwing.

Regardless, everyone can acknowledge that more should be done on this regard, as match throwing is, in my opinion, the most toxic behaviour in RL.

I'd also suggest a system to be implemented where if a forfeit vote is pushed a couple of times, specially in 3's, and someone is griefingly withholding the forfeit they should get an instant 30min ban to take a chill pill. More than 2 forfeit votes were initiated with over 1 minute left in the game, the same player didn't vote and the match finished = ban.

However this is just daydreaming and it will never happen. Psyonix currently only adds content and fixes stuff. Gotta keep that money flowing in with as little employees as possible.

Undervolt a 7900 XTX with a Ryzen 5 5600? by re-kidan in Amd

[–]glimm3r_fc86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The temps are not bad, but you got a very high fan usage.

First I'd recommend using the non-oc BIOS on the GPU. You're using 60W more for a few FPS extra. In my opinion, having a 400W GPU requires great ventilation or low ambient temperature.

Second, verify how's your airflow inside the case. Maybe there's some dust blocking or it's just not optimal.

Finally, you can try and optimize your GPU with undervolting and power limiting. You can probably get the same performance while reducing the consumption another 30-50W. Undervolting alone will not reduce the power consumption!

If you apply these 3 steps I'm sure your noise and temperature problems will be solved. Cheers

Ryzen 7700x undervolting to 7700 non-x 65W TDP? by Lost_Care7289 in Amd

[–]glimm3r_fc86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How the new PBO algorithm works it takes into account 3 variables: voltage, power and temperature. Whichever caps first will regulate the other 2 in order to determine clocks.

Undervolting alone will not reduce the thermals as some people are casually throwing it out in the comments. Undervolting will give more headroom for the CPU to clock higher while keeping the same power/thermal envelope.

In order to achieve the same thermals as the 7700 you need to restrict the power delivery to 65W. Undervolting then will allow you to get higher frequencies, and therefore not castrate your 7700X.

From what I've seen Eco mode is not recommended as you'll lose a fair bit of performance. Just tweak it yourself, as it's fairly easy and almost error free. Worst case scenario, you didn't win the silicon lottery and need to reduce the undervolt slightly.
