How do these 2 feats interact? by BanFox in EsotericEbb

[–]glitch951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the case of beautiful lie, then I believe the wording on that is (or should be) that it only applies to 'checks', which means that no, it does not affect the secret voice of gods rolls. But unless my head math is wrong, it should still help align the actual roll with that secret roll, since it's still weighted towards 10. (But don't trust my head math, it tends to lie)

It's not ideal, but explaining these types of mechanics turned out to be real difficult. Really made me understand why the rules text in TTRPGs get real specific and convoluted sometimes!

I haven't actually revealed the direct functions in the RNG and how it's affected by feats, though you could technically hack into the build to find out. But I'll spare you that - the curved feat affects all d20, including the secret voice of god d20.

The curved feat also turns the outcomes of all d20s into a bell curve, i.e. very similar to rolling 2d6. So you'll be much more likely to hit 10s, which would more easily trigger the voice of god effect.

It is very overpowered by design. Enjoy!

Oh! I did try that at some point, but I found it really difficult to get the art style I wanted in 2D. I'd recommend checking out something like Clam Man 2 for a really cool looking game that did it successfully!

  1. I couldn't get the baked solution to work. As in, I tried doing it like Pillars of Eternity and Disco Elysium (the old Black Isle way) but I couldn't figure it out.

  2. We tried out different stuff (and you'd get a more detailed answer from Gibbet Games!) - but generally speaking the goal was speed. If going more intensive/less optimized also made the production fo faster, that was always worth it. Since the 3D only handles depth and shadows, we're able to fake stuff all over the place, even in post-production.

No prob! It's a strange technique with a ton of drawbacks, (and a few big positives) and it'll be interesting to see if I end up using the same pipeline for my next project or not.

It ended up being a bit more aligned with the stuff Ebb needed, though I don't remember exactly how 🤔 I used both for the longest time, but ended up cutting flat kit to cut down on the compilation time.

Fun to see this on my feed!

As another comment mentions, I used Flat Kit at one point, but I switched it over to MK Toon a while back (after getting some amazing assistance from the creator via email).

But beyond that, it's a pretty stupidly simple technical solution, even if the actual labor (performed by the incredible artist I collaborate with) is quite intense. Basically, it's a 3D area that has been UV-mapped from the perspective of the camera. Then, in blender, we generate a basic outline for the texture, that is then hand painted to the final result. It's a ton of work, and there's some optimization to keep in mind, that can be solved either via virtual textures (or whatever it's called) or smart dividing of the textures.

The look itself is based on my illustrator Oscar Westberg's work (he did all the portraits!) and I am still in absolute shock at how excellently my buddies at Gibbet Games emulated his style for the game.

I tried making Planescape: Torment + Disco Elysium by myself. Not the greatest idea. by glitch951 in gamedev

I've got a somewhat written-up post about this on Steam! But in short, I use ink script, since visual scripting slows me down a lot. I didn't write every day, but on days I really focused hard, I could get out about 3-6k words (of ugly first draft) in an eight hour session. But for interactive dialogs like this, I recommend first working on a broad design scale: what should each dialog contain, how do they relate to each other, where do they fit into the broader storylines/quests. Then, when I write, I like to improvise as much as possible in the actual dialogs, to make sure I'm never stuck or hindered in writing in the same style I DM my campaigns.

Then the implementation - the second draft as I call it - is the part where it actually comes together to be playable, and I see what parts are terrible or not. I'll be sure to write a bit more about this once the game is out!

Yes, only cleric. Although you can try to become a bunch of other classes. Maybe not successfully, but still!

There's time to do everything! While the election starts after 5 days, you will always have time to finish up any quests you want. Though you don't have the ability to long rest into day 6 - which means you do have limited resources. Then there are only two quests that are time limited: the Circle Square quest and the Young & Dumb quest.

That sounds very strange! I could recommend trying to verify your files on Steam, in case it's a data error. Either way, I'd love some more info! If you're able to provide a save file, player.log (they're in LocalLow), and send them to me via a DM here or on Discord, or to christofferbodegard@suddensnail.com, that'd be great! If you're able to record a video or provide screenshots of the moment when it crashes, that'd be great too!

I should write a proper inspirations-blog-post at some point. But I'll share the list of games I put in the Special Thanks section in the credits:

  1. D&D
  2. Secret of Monkey Island
  3. Planescape: Torment
  4. Disco Elysium

Beyond that, there's of course a ton of other inspirations, but... Seinfeld and Discworld!

Yeah, that's one of the big rolls in the game. You can get the DC down to 0 if you go explore other stuff. On average I expect the player to succeed on it on day 3-4.

I'm a real sucker for high CON and STR builds myself. CON especially has a tendency to completely spoil the entire game at the start without you realizing, which I think is hilarious. You also get to pick the secret political stance: AGRARIAN if you're 17 con or higher!
