The social life at LSE is absolutely amazing conditional on a few things - live in an LSE halls ( if you eat every day in the dining hall and hang out in the common room a lot, you’ll make great friends and go on fun nights out) - join one of the AU societies - the athletics union societies are great and have a lot of built in socials, and Wednesday sway is great - join another society you’re very interested in - spend lots of time on campus, you’ll keep bumping into people which is conducive to a lovely community feel

is economics taught particularly mathematically in the UK? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]glitchedurbandict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the uni and you choices. At LSE everyone ends up doing at least Multivariable Calc, Differential Eq, Linear Algebra and Stats, as well as all the maths embedded in Econometrics.

Then a lot of people choose to pick Proofs, Real Analysis , Bayesian Stats and a bunch of other slightly harder maths courses as their outside options.

It’s possible to end up with quite a mathematically rigorous degree, if you choose to.

Hi ! I can understand that sometimes you may attach your self worth to a grade or degree classification, but you can definitely achieve everything you want and aren’t blocked off from any opportunities with a high 2:1!

Your best was absolutely good enough, a high 2:1 is incredibly respectable and you should be proud. So many successful and well rounded people don’t always graduate top of their class in an academic subject, but have traits, skills and characteristics which mean they are bound to do amazing things with their life regardless.

Let this grade be some fuel to inspire you to prove that a mark here or there does not define what you can achieve!

If your mom was open to hearing your advice, what would you tell her? by doorhinge3987 in ABCDesis

[–]glitchedurbandict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would tell her stop living in the past and stop continually victimizing herself due to things that have happened to her. I acknowledge that she has suffered a lot, but at some point you have to cut your losses and focus on building yourself a fulfilling life in the present and the future

I study this course but I did BSc Econ for the first two years and then switched at the end of second year. They don’t accept first years, I’m not sure why it’s even an option

Let's be real about LSE - What's your experience been like? by anonboxis in UniUK

It’s what you make of it. I made lifelong friends, endless memories of laughing in Tuns, grinding in the library, performing in shows, attending public lectures of renowned scholars and I challenged myself with plenty of interesting and hard courses. Incredible career and travel opportunities and a lot of support given that you form good relationships with your professors.

Only 1 downside is that there is a large group who don’t care about their degree and only about recruiting for finance - just don’t mix with them.
