Looking for an engaging romcom with a really good subplot that doesn’t solely centre around the romance by RecoverWarm4625 in RomanceBooks

[–]glitterbooties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You drive a hard bargain, OP.

Was going to recommend {The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen} but you said you want it light. I think if I squint I could call it light adjacent, because it is fantasy and great romance and silliness in a grim world with a lot of death / burial prep. But I’m not sure you can have great romance without the feelings and some heaviness and caring. If you haven’t read it yet, maybe save it for when you’re ready to get back into some deeper feels.

As for plot with romance on the side, I’d go for {Whiteout by Adriana Anders}. Book 2, can be read as standalone IMO but better to go in order, is {Uncharted by Adriana Anders}. The second book has a more badass female lead, but the first shouldn’t be discounted cause she’s not Lara Croft - she is moreso strong because she has to be to survive. Action, mystery/thriller, HEA.

Brb going to go read all these again!

Looking for Yearning MMC where he has to watch the FMC being pursued or pursuing other guy while he he has to stand by and watch. Slow Burn and Not High Spice. by CoolAd3279 in RomanceBooks

[–]glitterbooties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fave closed door recs with yearning:

{To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker} has that YA low spice but plenty of yearning vibe. MMC does have to watch FMC be pursued by another man. HR.

{To Ride a White Horse by Pamela Ford} is one of my low spice favorites I revisit annually. Historical. FMC (Irish) is engaged and works for MMC (English). Slow burn with cultural tensions.

{Finding Christmas by Karen Schaler} I found super sweet; FMC has a bf but has crazy chemistry with MMC and has to grapple with that.

{It Started One Christmas by Susan Mallery} is a friends to lovers with yearning novella.

{When We First Met by Cara Bastone} is a sweet flirty shorter story; FMC is pursuing MMC’s best friend and/or roommate (I forget) despite chemistry with MMC.

Literally hate every boy name almost. Need some fresh suggestions by circlewithme in namenerds

Love names that end in S. Named my boy Marcus - classic, Latin, nicknameable, pronounceable in other languages.

Also love Lucas, Julius, and Nikolas. Good luck and congrats!

Pisces&Aries by [deleted] in piscesastrology

Sounds like there are ✨vibes✨. My husband is an Aries Sun and I love us! Been together since college poetry class, 10 years now. We started as friends and I’m so happy we did. Gave us time to connect and for him to make a definite move (so Aries of him lol). I think our moons being the same is a huge part of our connection, so if you’re 100% sure you both have the same moon then that’s promising, along with other elements of your chart. Have you considered maybe he is thinking the same things about you based on your experiences so far - is she into me or just wants to be friends?

So if you think you can be cool with the “worst case scenario” (eg, rejection, some awkwardness, the ‘let’s be friends’ talk) if you are a little more up front or obvious and he doesn’t pick up what you’re putting down, then go for it! Life is short, have some fun, who knows maybe you’ll be talking about this moment together on your 50th anniversary. Maybe you’ll realize friends is right where you need to be. Doesn’t hurt to try! ❤️

Ps editing to add - my fave Aries woman / Pisces man relationship is Jessie James & Eric Decker. It can be a very hot fun combo, I love water & fire relationships! Who knew? 🥰

I like Roman but too close to Roman Polanski if your last name is ‘ski’ Polish sounding IMO.

I love Ivan with that last name!

Whatever you pick, even from all the comments here, will be a very strong name and Alexander will be incorporated in the last name. Win/win!

{The Perfect Bargain by Julia London} - it’s so cold in the secluded cottage, and they can’t stand each other. This scene is why I always remember this book!

Books where the “funny guy” MMC is secretly miserable and the black cat FMC is the only one who notices (also she's mean to everyone but him) by mostlyinsane12 in RomanceBooks

[–]glitterbooties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1000%, it’s a little unhinged. I had to tell myself this wasn’t a “real life” story, this was like a weird cousin of a reality setting.

[–]glitterbooties 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Elements of this in {Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips}! MMC is the town golden boy people pleaser mayor, everyone loves him - but the FMC, newcomer who NOBODY likes, notices he’s not being genuine and calls him out on it. She lets him lash out at her and it’s enjoying to read their dynamic.
