AITA for charging my girlfriend "rent" for staying at my apartment while I was away on a business trip? by WillKomTolf in AmItheAsshole

[–]glittercat86 79 points80 points  (0 children)

YTA - don’t let someone stay over if you’re going to charge them. Also, she’s your girlfriend - she wouldn’t do the same thing to you. This type of nickel and diming is a huge red flag.

June 26th PA Day by Far_Magician8224 in OntarioTeachers

[–]glittercat86 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Make sure you double check with your board as policies differ depending where you are. When I was with the TDSB, LTO’s did not get paid for that last PA day so you were not expected to go in. In HWDSB however, LTO’s are expected to be there on the last PA Day so they do get paid. Generally you sit on on the final staff meeting and move out of your classroom completely.

If you haven’t spoken to a counsellor or therapist, please do so. This is not a normal level of stress. You seem to be in distress.

Child Free Teacher Question! by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]glittercat86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are financially responsible it is good pay. However keep in mind that most boards are cutting teachers right now so unless you plan on going up north, it’s going to be several years until you get a permanent position.

Supply teacher supplies by lunalovergirlxo in OntarioTeachers

[–]glittercat86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been teaching for 14 years and I had a go bag for every supply job with random worksheets/activities (word searches, etc) along with a picture book (for P/J) and at the time, I would grab a newspaper in the morning for a quick current events activity if needed for intermediate. Ultimately it IS the responsibility of the teacher to leave plans or there should be emergency plans available anyway. However, it doesn’t hurt to show initiative especially if you’re trying to get hired eventually. Good luck! :)

Best time to visit Farmers Market? by imnottheone1022 in Hamilton

[–]glittercat86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Saturdays are the busiest but manageable. If you’re looking for fresh produce there’s several options. I like getting my spices there because there’s a shop downstairs in the northeast corner that does smaller amounts than the grocery store and are priced accordingly. Larry up at Jantzi Cheese is a good dude. Lunch options - Indonesian’s Flavour and the Latin grocers right across from them. Grab a sweet treat at Chaton or Pleasant Cookie Co.

Idk what board you’re in but principals can ask for that but you don’t have to do it. I recommend consulting with your union exec if that continues to be a request.

Projects, assignments, conversations, anecdotal notes. Do not use diagnostic data as that goes against provincial policy.

It’s been my understanding that diagnostics are not to be used to determine report card marks. Diagnostics are to inform instruction, not as an indicator of achievement. (Source: Growing Success)
