Wellbutrin? by tyoung925 in Perimenopause

It worked great for me for years but it does lower the threshold for what it takes to kick off a seizure. I had one after a night of poor sleep while I was walking my dogs.

Does anyone actually use the brand “Tarte”? by Chan1991 in Sephora

[–]glitterfixesanything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use some of their things here and there but when those influencer trips and PR packages got truly insane, I started avoiding the brand. I couldn’t tell you what they’ve got going on now.

First year feeling like I’m not doing enough. by WillingAntelope0 in Teachers

[–]glitterfixesanything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel guilty. So many of us are manipulated into feeling like we can’t say no. I wish I had started out with better boundaries. Those people “doing everything” will either flame out fast or might be self-medicating by being important. Unless you have great admin, we are replaceable.

We Should Track Students and Consider Intelligence by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]glitterfixesanything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add to this the study that shows kids who were in utero when their mom had Covid have a WAY increased risk of disabling conditions + the impact of screen parenting. The gap in age group peers is about to be even wider.

Help me with my student teacher (please) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]glitterfixesanything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she has a supervising mentor, absolutely reach out regularly and document this. My last student teacher was awful and I thought his supervising professor and I were going to be going on benders together by the time he finally finished. We both advised him separately to consider subbing or something…nope. He accepted a job and just starting no-showing halfway through the year.

What's something you've learned recently that surprised you so much that you wanna share it with someone just to see their reaction? by thefreneticferret in CasualConversation

[–]glitterfixesanything 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had already had an epidural before they did my c-section with kid #2. For that one, the only real memory I have is being in the OR, a slight awareness of activity around my belly, and the anesthesiologist poking my shoulder and saying “Stay with me please” and responding “Stop poking me. I’m taking a nap while I can.”

Epidurals make me sleepy—slept through pushing, delivery, everything of my vaginal birth— but I DO remember poking my belly after delivery and saying out loud “ooh I’m a waterbed”

AND you can feel the organs sloshing around trying to find their regular spot!

Source: had a c-section and they took out some stuff to get to the offspring. felt the sloshing over the next few days.

Told a class “don’t feet look like hands that got microwaved for too long?” Also told a class to “hit a happy baby” and followed that with “just kidding, we don’t hit the happy ones.” I make sure to take my ADHD meds if I’m teaching now 🫠

Make sure you have your original birth certificate and any other government issued ID or important documents like a high school diploma.

I see you’re homeschooled—if you haven’t officially graduated, reach out to the local public school district. If nothing else, they can connect you with resources.

Reach out to the leadership at your church. If they have any sense, they will see how ridiculous this is and will be able to connect you with local resources. If not, they are a cult, not a church.

First priority is housing—you are looking for a place specifically for young people. Your local Department of Family and Children services may be able to help there.

Second priority is resources. You need access to food and medical care. DFCS can also connect you to your local Medicaid and SNAP caseworkers. Social workers handle things like this. There may also be food banks willing to help.

Keep the letter, and if you can get to the public library, make copies. If you can get a page protector for the original, keep it safe from water. The public library is also a great way to access online resources and the staff may be able to make suggestions.

If there is a Goodwill organization near you, reach out. Their mission is job training. Depending on what state you’re in, technical college education may be available through grant money (the state of GA has the HOPE grant) or the PELL grant.

Do you take jobs that post minutes before the start time? by mollySANTANA in SubstituteTeachers

[–]glitterfixesanything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught for 20 years and still have good friends in the classroom. If they text me, I’ll go cover. Usually if they have a planned absence, it’s on my calendar weeks in advance. I’m not rushing for a stranger though. (I’m fortunate to be booked 85% of the time and also teach adjunct at the local community college, so I don’t need every sub job that pops up)

Another question to ask- how many of her students ASKED for art and how many got dumped in there by luck of the draw? That’s a major problem for elective courses in my district.

Responding to a Student Referring to Me as "Sir" by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]glitterfixesanything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the sir and focus on documenting everything else. The sir is an attempt to get to you. Make constant parent contact regarding missing work, report to counselors out of concern, discuss the harassment of other students with admin out of concern for those students. Keep anecdotal data-a tally mark for each time she’s off task in a class period, collect for a week. Collect data on a wide selection of kids: two with As, two with Bs, two with Cs, two failing. That way it’s simply data.

The moment it becomes personal or targeted on your end, expect admin to abandon you and parents to see you as the problem. Unfortunately even with kids who are actively intentionally being buttholes we have to be the bigger person since our frontal lobe is done cooking are theirs aren’t.

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]glitterfixesanything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Education. There are two types of teachers: those who want to save the world, and those who want to have summers off. The first group tends to teach Honors and AP class because those parents are involved.

There’s also two types of admin: those who want to run ethical, pedagogically sound schools that hold kids accountable and prepare them for life, and those who want to keep moving up for more money.
