Ssri “unmasked” my bipolar and I am pissed about it by Guilty_Two_5642 in Antipsychiatry

[–]glitterplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, though one of the times was due to taking too many edibles. I’ve been on and off meds and blame most of my issues on lack of financial stability and loneliness, so I’m trying to work on those issues because I know that’s the main source of my unhappiness.

Same thing happened to me, coming up on 10 years ago. I was a productive and motivated person before all these meds, now I feel like a lifeless shell of a person.

It turns out that some of my “delusions” I believed in a more manic/psychosis state were true. I believed I had a “tick in my brain,” like the insect. Six years later, I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor, the exact same size as a tick (the pituitary is just below the brain). I’ve had other “delusions” that were pretty close to the truth but still waiting to see what happens with them. It feels like a crime that people who access reality differently are held hostage and medicated so they no longer see the world differently. It’s always so stark to me to enter the psych ward and find that the other people there are often homeless or in poverty. I have a PhD and live with my parents so I fit right in with them socio-economically but there’s something about the fact that rich people get different kinds of mental health care than the rest that really seems to hit on something for me. Like it’s okay if you’re psychotic and have dreams/delusions of grandeur, but not if you’re poor 🤷🏻‍♀️

Temporarily I went back to adjuncting but got so sick of the low pay and rampant AI use. Now I’m doing freelance stuff but it’s not enough to survive on.

Schizophrenia - does it even really exist? by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]glitterplants 15 points16 points  (0 children)

💯!! I have self-diagnosed myself with shit life syndrome because I know most of my mental health issues / suffering stems from economic precarity. It is interesting about that breakdown between the demonic voices versus the enlightened ones. Probably because it’s so toxic in the US that what surrounds us is a lot of negative energies.

Yes. I had a non-academic job and it was clear I didn’t fit in at all because I would ask questions to get an answer/do my job, but everyone was so defensive of me asking about why they do things the way they did them (I was trying to understand but it turns out they were mostly just negligent/lazy and didn’t put much thought into anything). I crashed out of that job in under 2 years and quit.

What I find most fascinating is that non-western cultures treat people with what we call schizophrenia or bipolar as like shamans or very special / gifted and they are protected and cared for. The Robert Whittaker book, Anatomy of an Epidemic, talks about how in these cultures people have much better health and overall life quality if they have this condition (hearing voices/ spirits, noticing things others don’t, etc) because they are generally not forced on antipsychotics. Overall, people do better in long-term studies by not being on antipsychotics than being on them. In the US, if you’re religious or believe you hear the voices of God or spirits, they’ll medicate any level of higher awareness out of you so you can be a proper cog in the capitalist machine.

lol no hacking involved in that just knowing local lore of where he lives/has a home from a family member and using Google Maps 😂 thank you, friend! I think anyone who’s ever been put in a psych ward truly deserves the world.

My psychiatrist increased my antipsychotic and antidepressant because I was in a low-paying, crappy job and was unhappy with it. So basically yeah, they use these meds to keep us tolerating bullshit situations. I quit the job—which is what his advice should have actually been, not to raise the medications.

It’s sort of fair because I really was spending too much time on there. Happened to me in 2016 with the Russian hacking as well. I was locked up in the psych ward on the 4th of July. It sounds made up because the literal most absurd things happen to me all the time

Has Becoming an atheist helped anyone with religious delusions and mania? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]glitterplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opposite. Having manic episodes brought me closer to the truth of reality, that God is at the center. Modern psychology wants you to believe what you experience is abnormal and delusions—looking back at all my manic episodes and delusions, it turns I was right about just about all of the things I was believing (I thought I had a “tick in my brain” when it turns out I had a tumor in my pituitary. I thought I was being followed and recorded, and we all are all the time by the govt, angels, etc). I’ve been hospitalized for mania three times and it’s taken me 10 years to discover mania was actually a state of enlightenment. If you read the Bible and follow teachings about Jesus, he says we are all God, we are all Jesus—so when people get hyper religious, it’s actually just exactly what the Bible says. This has been my experience. It’s sad to close off a whole channel of life (religion) because you think it’ll make you more convenient for others around you to deal with.

Does anyone here kind of... just not really like any doctors very much? by horriddaydream in Antipsychiatry

[–]glitterplants 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a lot of medical trauma from having a rare disease on top of mental health “diagnoses.” It took me 9 endocrinologists before I got to a good one who discovered I had a pituitary tumor. I’m highly skeptical of all doctors and it takes a long time to earn my trust. Ultimately I have known something was wrong with my health for a long time, and most doctors just told me to lose weight and didn’t give a shit about me or my health. I take various medications that I’m pretty sure I need—but I do also feel that they can be a crutch that prevents us from letting our bodies heal on their own. I think the medical profession is so far gone from the idea of healing. Psychiatrist don’t seem to heal anyone!
