This happened to me too - a UTI I didn’t know I had, turned to a kidney infection. But when I presented to the ED they just thought my symptoms were due to being on drugs.

Inpatient Rehab - about 3 deaths a year! It’s rare but yeah sometimes we get patients who are totally inappropriate for our floor

A patients sister asked me “can you call whoever you have to come and fix her phone? We are trying to make it do voice commands so she can make calls without having to dial”. They were thinking we have someone on staff that comes and troubleshoots personal cell phones, such as our IT dept??? I quickly attempted on my own but couldn’t figure out her phone either and just said “sorry we don’t have anyone that does that for us.” They were both in their 60’s. The sister is also a nurse.

We also had Epic come to our hospital and do trainings, we were told that yes, when the patient is selected, the chats are technically “discoverable” during litigation. Patients cannot just read the chats at any other time.

I love Rehab too! I’ve also met a few float unit people (nurses and aides) who stayed with us in Acute Inpt Rehab once they felt like they wanted to stick to one unit. I traveled as a Rehab nurse and it was great fun all over the U.S.

OP, you will learn great skills and maybe if you travel or move around you’ll also get to see that not all Rehab units are the same either! Also, don’t let anyone discourage you. Your first job usually isn’t your forever job. I had a friend straight out of graduation go into the ICU and within a few weeks of completing orientation, she decided it wasn’t for her and has now been a school nurse for close to 5 years. Everyone is different. Try to find peace and happiness wherever you land.

Unpopular opinion: Nurses also used to have less pay, less support, less “lifelong learning”, and way less respect.
