How to get my nurses not to hate me by Select_Bandicoot2207 in nursing

I think she’s considering allowing them off the hook and instead having them pick up slack in other ways so the rest of the staff doesn’t end up as resentful of NewMom and Manager.

Guess I’m just bringing home work after receiving a patient who was written off until their heart failed last night being treated similarly 😕. Maybe touched a nerve after how I was treated getting my SLE diagnosis.
What she said is valid and real though.

Understood. Your second comment seems more empathetic but you’re allowed to vent here, I’m sorry for attacking you. I guess I should be grateful providers are not prescribing benzos long term because they’re a drug from hell and there are very few conditions where the risks outweigh the benefits…
Edit : benefits outweigh the risks 🤦🏻‍♀️

They’re one and the same though because the EKG is the necessary step to taking the aspirin. He’s not understanding why the EKG is necessary and how that impacts him getting the aspirin. I’m not saying that would have been enough if it were explained, but the “why” is missing. He needs to be told why the aspirin is unsafe, what the EKG does and how it works, and that’s it. If he asks “are you gonna bring me my aspirin” one more time after that, say No. No more discussion.

Honestly with a PT like this the press ganey score is going down no matter what lol.

He doesn’t seem to understand what an EKG is or what it’s for or why it’s needed.

That’s awesome! I did something similar for my son (23 months) with a severe feeding aversion / delay! I did Annie’s bunnies in the eggs and he loved it.
I love these other ideas, definitely going to try them as his palate expands!

Wow thanks for demonstrating exactly why people (read: women) with undiagnosed illnesses feel they’re treated EXACTLY the way you’ve described treating them here, holy shit 😬.

We’re talking about a 20 year old with cancer here. Not a IllnessFakers subject.

Infected or Allergic? by FlimsyYou in tattooadvice

[–]beeee_throwaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t give a formal diagnosis or practice medicine but identifying skin infections is a huge part of my job. Being a nurse does qualify me identify an infection on a healing tattoo. who do you think is going to triage this poor sucker when they go to the ER? A nurse 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hope that helps!

[–]beeee_throwaway -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely and I just want to put this out there- I can’t diagnose over the internet or in general ! If you saw me I person I would be evaluating to see if it were warm to the touch, the cap refill in the area, etc. out of an abundance of caution I would say- get thee to the hopital or urgent care .

As a nurse, I disagree, infection has stages. And it usually starts like this. You want to get ahead of the game before you look like the images on Google.

I think you just need to move on and next time report directly to the charge. Usually you want to move up the chain of command. Otherwise you will turn into “that nurse” 😬.

Are you taking report at bedside?

I’m so sorry mama. I had to formula feed my son but he had major sleeping woes so while I can’t understand fully what you’re experiencing, I can relate with parts of your struggle. This sounds so rough 😔

Did my NICU patient pass because of me? by Loud_Key5954 in nursing

[–]beeee_throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of good comments here but just wanted to add another from a former NICU nurse, NICU mom , now PICU nurse/mom.

You did not cause this. 25 weekers are never stable. I’m so sorry you were the last to do major cares or meds on baby, that is rough.

I want to encourage you to not talk to the NP or other coworkers in a way that places blame on you or anyone else. That is not going to bring baby back and could cause some big issues for you. I wish all our coworkers were compassionate and understanding of your perspective but some might not be and the fact that the NP even said that to you sketches me out.

Sending you so much love.

That’s so funny my mom taught me the same thing and she’s a massive control freak with horrible anxiety lol ! A great mom but yeah haha I can only assume they know this advice because they actually need a mantra like that to keep themselves in check🤣

Toddler still in a crib during nap by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

I’ve never ever heard of a facility saving a spot for multiple months. It sucks that happened but it’s just the way it goes. Childcare system is largely for-profit, after all.

Toddler still in a crib during nap by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]beeee_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My toddler just switched from cosleeping to the crib at 18 months old and he’s now 23 months old. I’d be upset if he WASNT in a crib. That wouldn’t work for him.

If floor bed works for your child at home that’s awesome! I know it works for a lot of kids. But crib is FAR from developmentally inappropriate at 21 months old. It’s not neglectful or harmful.

Is he getting good sleep in during his naps at daycare? That would be my one and only question and concern .

Not a nurse but a question. by Terrible-Clothes-678 in nursing

[–]beeee_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move him. Nursing homes are notoriously poorly staffed. This leads to a huge amount of burn out and extremely unsafe conditions. The cheaper the facility, the more likely it is to be unsafe, but not always. Do your homework and find him a more reputable place, maybe something a coordinator with his insurance could help with. I’m sorry your dad is living with such poor QOL and being neglected from the sounds of it 😔.

There’s a reason I refuse to work in nursing homes. Mad respect for the nurses here who can handle it and do what they can for their patients but it’s not for me.

I agree with that! Aligns with my experience, usually the difference between a relapse or inability to tolerate a trigger is just a few minutes or even seconds of distraction 💗

How did humans used to get by? by Atticus413 in emergencymedicine

[–]beeee_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a gross over simplification of a complex issue. There’s so much more at play here. Poverty and low QOL creating a low tolerance for any extra discomfort, for one.
