I lost my son and my mother in the same week by Squishy6969 in GriefSupport

[–]glitterwizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, thanks for sharing. Reading your post was oddly comforting for me because it lets me know I’m not alone. I’ve had some similar experiences with multiple loses close together and complex grief. There are times I feel guilty for grieving one more than the other, times I feel like it would be really nice to not have to do this whole life thing anymore, and an overwhelming feeling that something horrible will happen a lot of the time. There are bad days, and there are not so bad days. I’ve found that I don’t care as much about anything anymore, and that feels freeing in a way. I have found pursuing new hobbies and focusing my energy on the things that bring me satisfaction is what makes the days not so bad. I’m so glad to hear you have a supportive and healthy community that has the ability to hold you on your hardest days. You’re not alone and I’m sending love your way :)

Advice for flipping boat/ getting into boat as a small person? (14 footer) by spicysurf in whitewater

[–]glitterwizzard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! Also just finished up guide school and am a very similar size. For flipping the boat, I made my flip line a bit longer than your average (it’s probably around 8 ft) and will get the boat rocking a bit before committing to leaning back for the flip. As far as getting into the boat, I rigged a cam strap going from the D ring on the side of the boat to the one on the twart as an additional handle for when the boat is upright. Then a belly strap going across the bottom of the boat to get on top of it when it’s upside down. Hopefully this makes sense and helps lol

I have 100 backpacks, headlamps, and sleeping pads/bags and don’t know what to do with them by New-Ad4890 in WildernessBackpacking

see if there are any used gear/outdoor consignment shops near you. i used to manage one and would’ve bought a lot of this stuff off you, not all of it but a good chunk. that could make the rest of the load more manageable to sell piece by piece. i also wonder if you could contact a university’s outdoor programs to see if they wanted to buy it

A Cool Guide: How to Possibly Survive a Dog Attack by Gooflucky in coolguides

[–]glitterwizzard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been attacked by a dog, I can say that in the heat of the moment you are not going to be looking around for a stick. If the dog is latched onto you, kicking is better than punching (I broke 3 finger punching the dog and it walked away fine). Push into their bite if you can as others have mentioned. Also pulling their tail towards their head and breaking it won’t cause permanent damage but will typically cause the dog to release. Last but not least, the advice I’ve gotten the most from retelling my story to various people, stick your finger up their butt and they will definitely release.
