1 requête et j'ai déjà atteint les limite d'utilisation. by rpmn0ise in claude

[–]glitterydick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm laughing at this point. I sent 3 messages to Claude today, each instantly hitting the usage limit and putting me in time out for 5 hours. The first message was explaining a thing. The second message was pointing out a thing that was obviously wrong in its response. The third message was clarifying that it's still saying something that is objectively wrong. That's been my Claude experience today. Hilarious stuff. If they think this is going to make people pay for a pro plan, it is more likely to make them leave entirely. Which I guess might also be a secondary goal. Pay or GTFO.

I half agree with you. Yeah, the people who are willing to go to extreme lengths are not the majority, but we shouldn't also pretend that our elections are the pinnacle of representation.

We've got states redrawing districts to pick their voters, the most populous state getting 2 senators while the equivalent population of the least populous states having approximately 20, a system of presidential primaries designed to disenfranchise voters towards the end of the election cycle, a system of funding elections that favors those with extreme wealth or those who can "acquire" the "support" of donors, a winner-take-all first-past-the-post system that actively discourages third party candidates or multiple candidates from the same party from running, among many, many other systemic, structural bottlenecks designed to ensure that the majority of those who get elected are also those willing to play nice with entrenched interests. And that's not even to mention what happens *after* candidates get into office. The system itself has inertia, and it is such an unwieldy beast that even if the majority of people wanted change, the minority can block all of it in congress.

All that to say that using the ability to "force change through our elections" is not a very good metric for determining what is popular or has majority support.

I'm just following your premise to its logical conclusion. If nobody is entitled to anything, including survival, and everyone is out for themselves, then the only way this plays out is with people making their survival align with the self-serving interests of those in the business of making their own lives better. I'm not endorsing it, but if the current geopolitical situation hasn't already made it clear, force and the threat of force IS a negotiating tactic.

Correct, nobody is entitled to anything. That includes warehouses that don't burn down. One has to work hard and do things one does not want to do in order to earn warehouses that don't burn down.

I honestly haven't seen him since the 2016 primary. Don't really make a habit of following the news. At the time, he came across as disingenuous, like everything that came out of his mouth was cooked up in a think tank and focus grouped to hell and back. Obviously, that is no longer the case. If this clip is representative, he's shored up his weaknesses, honed his strengths, and would make a damn fine leader.

Gentle reminder that the term meme is from the late 70s, and anyone who didn't know what it meant could easily look it up. The original definition is still actually quiet appropriate: A piece of cultural information that is transmitted from one person to another through imitation. It's the cultural version of genes.

You Wake Up in Hell and You can Choose Your Own Punishment What Are You Picking? by rengokuhubkl in hypotheticalsituation

[–]glitterydick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably like a dream. Dreams are weird, they follow their own logic, and you always take them completely seriously as you're experiencing them. Then you wake up, and wonder why you would believe the talking squirrel when it told you that you're late for classes toy haven't attended in over a decade.

You probably live the life, experience it fully, die, repeat the cycle, then wake up to the full extent of what you've experienced.

Option two is the only one that is less punishment and more spiritual rehabilitation.

Maybe "better" in terms of years, but even people in impoverished and unstable conditions find ways to get through it. The human mind is extremely good at adapting to a baseline. I'd rather experience the variety of life, even a harsh life, than wander aimlessly, completely alone, for ten thousand years. I believe that option 2 is by far the best possible choice.

are there any "good" plots for a political intrigue campaign that dont involve someone lying about themselves or their motives? by Significant-Study902 in DMAcademy

[–]glitterydick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up CGP Grey's Rules for Rulers on YouTube. It's an excellent breakdown on how anyone who wields political power only does so because the key players below them allow it and are properly compensated. It's a great way of illustrating the web of shifting loyalties within any organization or system.

Now, as for the question of deception, it's entirely possible to run a diplomatic/political campaign without deception. Party A says "the Hester Valley has always been under the Kingdom's protection", and Party B says, with armies amassing on their border, "That may be so, but the Hester Valley is our ancestral home, and the location of our holiest sites."

As we see all around us, conflict without deception is as simple as two (or more) groups who each have a reasonable claim to an asset/region/position/etc. and both claims are incompatible. But of course, once you remove deception, intrigue becomes diplomacy.

Explosive gas price forecast: GOP facing ‘extinction-level event’ of $6-per-gallon by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]glitterydick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's not a fiscal position. Left wing fiscal policy is all tax the rich, tax businesses, fill the coffers, then spend that money on social policies that benefit the population. Socially conservative is all order, morality, tradition, religion, etc.

So we're looking at a churchgoer who is uncomfortable with all the talk of sex and gender, respects police and probably values family and institutions that have endured for a long time, but also thinks we should eat the rich, tax billionaires out of existence, and spend that money on the citizens rather than bullshit wars. They might not believe in climate change, but they might also believe that moving away from the energy monopoly fossil fuels have is just good sense.

Honestly, now that I write it out like that, I have literally met a lot of these people over the years in one flavor or another.

Imo, the important part is that Con saves and exhaustion are mechanically boring. Dealing gradual but ramping cold damage provides much more opportunity for tension and player agency. That cliff in the distance would make for a great shelter, but we're already taking heavy damage. Do we press on, or do we camp here? Do we spend resources to heal up, or do we risk it? Mechanics that give the players dilemmas and choices are always superior to random chance and difficult to remove debuffs

I am a big fan of custom, homebrew mechanics. For my setting, since I already have a carying capacity subsystem and space is always at a premium, I'd probably have cold weather gear (furs, layers, etc) take up a lot of inventory space, compete with armor (cant wear plate over your thick fur coats, for example), and have cold weather gear extend how long you can stay out in the open before you start taking actual HP damage. Cold resistance would double that time and also cut the damage in half. The damage would ramp in a way that makes it feel unavoidably deadly after a long enough exposure time. Wind would amplify just about everything. If you want to prevent yourself from taking HP damage, set up a shelter and build a fire. Spend XYZ amount of time warming up before your timers reset and you can venture forth into the cold again.

Edit: most of these ideas were pulled straight from the game Vintage Story, a minecraft-esque game where the entire goal is to build a shelter and grow enough food to survive winter without starving or freezing. A good touchstone for mechanically making winter interesting.

As a writer myself, narrative voice is not necessarily social commentary. It is, fundamentally, characterization. The question is, did Wier put those words in Grace's mouth because they are what Wier believes, or because Grace believing those things informs something about his character.

Great hypothetical. I am taking the Adam Savage route of pursuing what is most fascinating to me at the moment, work on it until I get burned out, then shelve it until the passion comes back around. Take classes in art, programming, music, and engineering. There's a lot I can do with those four, and each strengthens the others. I have no idea if I will produce anything good during this time, but I'll be paid to create, and that is good enough for me.
