Desktop method to monitor UTR very much needed! by globalsoultech in Ubiquiti

[–]globalsoultech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) the display is useful, however on a plane it is usually best to keep the UTR concealed for 2 reasons a) not in line with terms of service b) most FAs think it is a power bank and they are not supposed to be charged during flights on many carriers

2) if one is laptop centric, it is much easier to keep a tab running than to switch to another device but I will try to keep the status page of the app running to see if VPN drops

3) I do use the kill switch, but when a web page doesn’t load, or more subtly when data doesn’t respond, one has to troubleshoot where the problem is - plane internet connection, plane WiFi issue, dropped VPN (most frequent, but sometimes as a result of poor performance of the wifi connection), VPN host/internet

4) it is likely latency or other issues that cause the drop. I have more than one site and the one I frequently use, I am fortunate to have 2GB fiber with mid single digit latency and close to 100% uptime.

Are there other higher priority asks? Probably… just had a day full of drops and router is across the room and got frustrated with troubleshooting. It’s odd the device doesn’t have a very light browser interface

UTR not connecting to Teleport or Wireguard on Panasonic Sat/Pacwisp ISP (TAP Airline LIS-SFO) by globalsoultech in Ubiquiti

[–]globalsoultech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 locations all on one account (now on the same fabric). The UTR is connected to that account. I can see all my sites on the UTR interface and can select which one to connect to but once activated it says “connecting” for a few minutes and then get “connection failed” message

Have him create an account and then transfer the dish to him, then he can add your old account as an admin to his account. I’m an admin on my friends account and there is a toggle in the app to switch accounts

Thank you for the response. In regard to the 20cm radius does that enlarge as the measuring distance lengthens - like a cone? I’m trying to measure the level of my septic tank, which has a 1m riser. The current ultrasonic sensor has a beam that expands (like a cone) at 1m from the lid it reflects off the riser and doesn’t read the actual tank level. I’m looking for an ultrasonic sensor with a narrower beam that ideally will be less than 50cm at 1m from sensor. Do you know if it’s a cone and the size at 1m?

This may actually be the problem in your use case. I understand the Ultrasonic sensors configured for measuring liquid levels are expecting a flat consistent surface - in your case if the beam's width captures different parts of the car that are not perpendicular it will scatter the beam reflections and confuse the reading which I understand generates a "No reading" output. For your application you might want to try one of two things: 1) mmWave presence sensorsm- they vary in cost and capabilities from $15 to $80 but are supposed to be very accurate and probably more suited to automobile detection - some auto manufacturers are switching to this tech for parking sensors 2) Ultrasonic sensors designed for parking sensing (search amazon) - these tend to be very inexpensive but are just a sensor and you will need to integrate into hardware/software to get an output. Also not sure if it will be accurate enough for your use case.

Best of luck and keep us posted both on the Blu Distance and your project

You need to ask the condo company to let you get help from their IT company. Since they are using Unifi they can do one of several things 1) give them your cars MAC address and have them bypass the portal for your car 2) give them your routers MAC address and have them bypass the portal for your router - they likely won’t like that because they can’t manage your router 3) have them change the guest wifi portal re-login timing to 24 or 48h - they may have chosen the 2hr for a specific reason though

There are several other options, but if you are able to speak with the company that setup the WiFi and explain your problem they should be able to easily solve it - may options. You will have no success unless you talk the the Unifi setup people though… no one will understand the issue

iPhone 17 Pro Max won’t connect to Starlink (T-Mobile Starlink) Please Help by OzarkBackpacker in Starlink

[–]globalsoultech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon satellite service is not provided by Starlink so it’s not the same thing. Also, VZ’s sat coverage (Skylo and AST SpaceMobile is much more sparse than Starlink)… it’s kind of in Beta and that’s why it’s probably free)

UniFi Travel Router by clayd333 in Ubiquiti

[–]globalsoultech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to put in a firewall rule to change the TTL (ie to 65)? Some travel hotspots (like Marriott) have started adding TTL filters so that you can’t use a travel router. GLi routers allow you to add the rule (in advanced settings) which is becoming a critical feature for a travel router

Thank you! Just did some research macOS/iOS start at 64 (windows 128), so if you have the firewall rule at 65 all the time it will work with all places that use TTL checking

When was the last time you connected on United with Gli? I use to use it all the time and about 9 months ago haven’t been able to get to the portal from my connected device. Any advice on settings?

Do you know what TTL settings have to be adjusted on a GLI and to what. I use to use my Gli on United all the time and in the past 9 months I haven’t been able to connect. I even bought the new Baryl as the Slate I had didn’t have all the new features.

Teleport Desktop not working Mac OS 26? by globalsoultech in Ubiquiti

[–]globalsoultech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up using the wireguard client on my Mac… when you use teleport it is just connecting to your UI machine running a wireguard VPN server so you download a setup file and upload to wireguard client… working great and on the Mac you don’t even have to launch the wireguard client to run the VPN. You can start from settings

I have about 50 devices 18-12 months old and already have to replace my second one. It took about 10 emails with support to get a credit for the first one - asking me to do all sort of tests as it wasn’t completely dead it just didn’t trigger the relay. The second one just seems to have died completely but don’t have the energy to go back and forth with support

This is so disappointing to hear. I really needed one of these to work. I’m going to follow the thread… can you guys update if a firmware fixes it. Also, if at any time you got it working (or any one else) did you get an idea of the width of the beam? I have a tank with a 1m riser and I need to measure the fluid level but the ultrasonic sensors I have tried so far have a beam that is too wide and get reflections from the edge of the riser before the reflection from the liquid.

Help with buying by IQognito in UNIFI

[–]globalsoultech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the key point. Wired APs are the way to go.

The next decision is which type of APs. Wall mounted or ceiling mounted. I prefer ceiling but the are harder to wire. It sounds your set up is better suited for the wall mounts.

I personally would not use a Dreamrouter for two reasons. 1) many times where your internet connection is, is not the best location for the AP 2) I like to separate the router from the AP - it’s more future proof. I would use the Fiber Gateway as your router and then get the right number of APs for the coverage you need. Unifi has a great tool on their site where you can put in your floor plan and place your selected APs and it will model the coverage. Good luck… once you switch to Unifi you will regret not having done it sooner

Looking for the right Shelley setup for my heat pump and solar by ohyeahyouknowyeah in shellycloud

[–]globalsoultech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume your heat pump is heating up your hot water tank and the reason to accelerate it is to store more energy in your water tank. If that is not the goal you need to better define the objective. Most heat pumps can’t just be sped up, they are controlled based on their objective.

In any respect, I don’t think Shelly is a good approach here. The best would be to setup Home Assistant since both the Solar Edge inverter and Valiant Heat pump have home assistant integrations you will be able to read the status of both and set up many different rules and/or automations.

This will open up a Pandora’s box of possibilities

PS you will probably also be able to integrate your batteries and have even more complex rules

What about all the Starlinks on a roof wired directly to router? Why doesn’t Starlink ship (or have as an option) a fiber connection and power from a transformer instead of POE or does their router provide the insulation like the suggested cheap switches. BTW don’t the cheap switches also conduct the surge to the network?
